‘The Office’: Domhnall Gleeson & ‘White Lotus’s Sabrina Impacciatore Cast In New Greg Daniels Comedy
The potential new Greg Daniels and Michael Koman comedy series in The Office universe has locked in its first two stars: Domhnall Gleeson (The Patient) and Sabrina Impacciatore (White Lotus), who will be part of an ensemble, sources close to production tell Deadline. Details regarding their roles are under wraps. The Office studio Universal Television declined to comment, other than to confirm that the project remains in development.
As Deadline revealed exclusively in January, Daniels opened up a development room to explore ideas for a follow-up series to the Emmy-winning The Office. The prospective new series, which is not a reboot, is said to be set in a new office with new characters but live within the same world as the Steve Carell-led mockumentary series which follows employees at the Scranton, Pennsylvania, branch of the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. “The White Lotus” star Sabrina Impacciatore and Venice Film Festival director Alberto Barbera play alternate versions of themselves on the final episode of the Italian adaptation of “Call My Agent,” which was released this weekend on pay-tv Sky Italia.
Shot in September 2023, during the real Venice event, the show sees Impacciatore play the fest’s master of ceremonies who, wearing a red gown, disembarks with her agent from a motorboat on the Lido at the Excelsior Hotel dock, greeted by throngs of fans and paparazzi. She then starts acting a bit strange, speaking to Barbera in English instead of Italian and almost falling into the lagoon, as seen in the above exclusive subtitled clip.
Impacciatore, who played Valentina, the hotel manager in the Sicily-set second season of “White Lotus,” was mostly unknown outside of Italy before appearing in the hit HBO show which also gave her domestic career a nice boost.

Anthony Anderson recently opened up about the rough injury he endured while filming a scene in a new movie.
The actor and comedian appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to discuss the scary incident that occurred on the set of G20 in South Africa.
Anderson, who stars in ABC’s Black-ish and hosts the game show We Are Family, joked about his injury scare, indicating that some fellow actors got a bit too rough in a scene.
Jimmy asked him about how he’d been spending a lot of time in South Africa, where the action film G20 was being filmed.
“I love the people in Cape Town. I had a great time in Cape Town and looking forward to going back soon,” Anderson also said.
The late-night show host mentioned Anderson having spent a “night in the ER” while he was there.

The sixth edition of the Joburg Film Festival wraps Sunday, putting a bow on a week that saw many in the host nation reflecting on South Africa’s long journey in the three decades since the end of apartheid. But among the filmmakers and executives taking part in the second Jbx content market the focus was squarely on the future, as Africa’s streaming wars and an eye toward global dealmaking highlighted how the tide has begun to shift in how the world perceives the continent. “What a time to be alive in Johannesburg,” said festival founder Timothy Mangwedi at Saturday’s award ceremony. “What a time to be alive in Africa.”

Viola Davis and Julius Tennon’s JuVee Productions, which recently wrapped the action-thriller “G20” for Amazon Studios and MRC Film in Cape Town, is planning to return to South Africa to film the true story of a young African refugee’s improbable journey to the U.S., the company’s head of film production and development, Melanie Clark, revealed this week at the Joburg Film Festival.
Developing the film with a working title of “The Refugee,” Clark said Davis and Tennon’s production banner is “actively working on [it] with some local partners and are in the process of figuring out how to shoot it” in South Africa, adding that “we do plan to shoot that here.”
The veteran production executive described the project as “the true story of a young Sierra Leonean boy who lost his mother in [the country’s civil war] and found himself alone, because no family would take him in any refugee camp.

Despite the MCU being the biggest and most popular superhero cinema outlet in the world today, Prime Video’s The Boys managed to create an almost cult-like following for itself in a matter of a few episodes. And when it comes to that show, there’s no chance Antony Starr’s role as Homelander in the series will not be brought up ever.

With so much steam behind him in recent years, many fans wished for his appearance in the MCU sometime in the future as well. But since that hope may be nothing more than a pipe dream at present, new concept art shows the star becoming Dracula from Marvel Comics to face off against Mahershala Ali in and as Blade, one of the character’s strongest nemesis.

Black-ish star Anthony Anderson went to the ER after an on-set movie stunt went wrong.
Anderson shared the news through an Instagram post, showing the actor on a hospital gurney. Despite his condition, Anderson smiled and held a peace sign to the camera.
Anderson captioned the post: “I spent the night in the emergency room. Movie set fight gone wrong. Me against two goons and a chair! Guess who didn’t win! Who needs a stuntman? Me that’s who!”
The actor also mentioned in the post that X-rays and Ct scans did not show any signs of fractures or broken bones, “just a deep contusion.”
“Bloodied and bowed but never broken!” Anderson added.
After, Anderson posted another photo to Instagram of the chair “that whooped [his] a– last night.” The post’s location was set to Cape Town, South Africa. Anderson continued to post about the chairs, joking that he got his revenge.

During an Aug. 31 news conference at the Venice Film Festival, Adam Driver threw his support behind SAG’s interim agreement efforts. “Every time people from SAG go and support a movie that has agreed to these terms, the interim agreement, just make it more obvious that these [producers who sign interim agreements] are willing to support the people that they collaborate with and the others are not,” said the actor, who was in Italy to promote the Neon-distributed Ferrari, which was granted an agreement.
Since they had been presented as a part of the SAG-AFTRA strike, interim agreements have caused much consternation and confusion, especially heading into the fall festivals.
The agreements have been presented by the union as a time-tested strike tactic, used in previous work stoppages as a way to keep non-amptp projects, namely independent features, up and running — while also keeping union members employed and showing the studios that the entertainment business can continue without them.

Adam Driver took to the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival this week in support of his new film “Ferrari,” but he’s one of only a few stars who are attending the usually buzzy festival. Thanks to the SAG-AFTRA interim agreement, actors on certain projects are allowed to promote movies because the studios behind those films are not represented by the AMPTP, and they have agreed to the union’s terms. Others, like “Maestro” star and director Bradley Cooper, will be skipping the splashy premiere of their films in solidarity with the SAG-AFTRA since their projects hail from AMPTP studios.
There is a loophole that allows an actor who also directed a project to promote that project because the Director’s Guild of America has successfully negotiated a deal with the AMPTP, but Cooper has opted not to appear.

Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, the National Executive Director and Chief Negotiator for SAG-AFTRA, confirmed Tuesday that fall festival buyers will need to agree to the terms proposed for the guild’s new contract before acquiring projects being promoted under an interim agreement.
“The contract contains assumption provisions which require any party that acquires rights under that collective bargaining agreement to assume the obligation to pay the residuals that are required by the contract,” Crabtree-Ireland said today during an on-the-record chat with press on Zoom.
The meeting was part of an ongoing campaign on the guild’s part to demystify the interim agreements, and leadership’s thinking around them. The agreements have proven a lightning-rod topic since the actors strike broke out last month, as some have questioned how projects from a company like A24, or to be distributed by the likes of New Line, can wind up on the same list as an ultra-low-budget indie,...

When Exhibiting Forgiveness, the first movie from African-American painter Titus Kaphar, started shooting in New Jersey in June, producers of the independent film were bracing themselves for a potential SAG-AFTRA strike.
“We started with our fingers crossed,” says producer Jamie Patricof of the movie, which stars a cast of as-yet unannounced SAG actors, including at least one Oscar nominee.
The producers, including Producers Guild president Stephanie Allain and Blue Valentine director Derek Cianfrance, stayed in close touch with their SAG rep as talks between the actors’ union and the Alliance of Motion Picture Television Producers continued over the next month and hired a labor attorney to help them navigate the system. When SAG officially called the strike on July 13, Exhibiting Forgiveness had five days left of shooting, and the movie became among the first productions to apply for and receive one of the guild’s interim agreements.

As the entertainment industry struggles under a double strike, the actors guild’s decision to grant interim agreements to some productions — and its very late communication about those agreements’ “vital” purpose in the strike strategy — is causing strife within Hollywood.
Questions still abound after what some insiders are calling a botched rollout of the interim agreements strategy by SAG-AFTRA. Are these excluded productions completely staffed with fellow Hollywood union crews? Who’s to say these independent productions don’t end up providing content for AMPTP studios and streamers? And if some performers can work while others strike, what does that mean for their unified stance with each other and the striking writers?
“I was skeptical [of the interim agreements]. So these actors and productions can work, but we’re still out here striking? I didn’t understand it at all,” Tea Khalifa, a background actor on “Grey’s Anatomy” who joined SAG-AFTRA last year, told...

The SAG-AFTRA union is addressing the interim waiver agreements for select productions to continue during the historic strike.
As part of a memo sent to members on Sunday, July 30 (via Variety), the union called greenlighting independent productions a “vital part” of the strike strategy.
“We are confident that the terms of this agreement, particularly the streaming revenue share, will make distribution of these projects through AMPTP platforms unfeasible, until such time as an industrywide agreement has been reached,” the SAG committee wrote. “We believe the leverage created by increasing competitive pressure on the AMPTP and denying them what they want most will force them back to the table and help bring this strike to an end.”
The memo encouraged indie producers to apply for interim agreements to employ SAG actors on productions; producers must be independent of companies that belong to the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, per the exemption rules.

Viola Davis is stepping away from producing action thriller ‘G20’ in support of the ongoing Hollywood strikes. In the wake of prominent members airing concerns about SAG-AFTRA’s interim agreements, union leaders are justifying the granting of these pacts — which allow films and TV shows to proceed amid the ongoing performers’ strike — to independent productions.
In a message sent to members Sunday evening, the union’s TV/theatrical negotiating committee maintained that these agreements are a “vital part of our strategic approach” during the 2023 negotiations and strike. The majority of projects that are granted these agreements are “entirely independent” from the companies that comprise the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, whose unresolved negotiations with the union have resulted in the current strike, the group stated. Some exceptions, however, are being made for “extraordinary circumstances mandated by legal considerations, such as Tehran.” (SAG-AFTRA’s national executive director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland previously told Deadline that Tehran, an Apple TV+-distributed series produced by an Israeli company and shot in Greece,...

SAG-AFTRA sent a letter to members on Sunday night addressing concerns over projects that are continuing to film during the strike using what’s called an “interim agreement.” The SAG-AFTRA TV and Theatrical Negotiating Committee explained in the letter that interim agreements — which they maintain are not waivers — are granted vetted and approved by the union, and allow productions that agree to terms set by SAG-AFTRA, including the proposals rejected by the AMPTP.
“Make no mistake, we are striking the AMPTP companies only, not independent productions that abide by the terms of our Interim Agreement. It behooves us to make this strategic move,” the letter reads.
The letter continues to say that the interim agreements “give many of our journeyman performers and crews the opportunity to pay their rent and feed their families,” and explains that productions moving forward under these agreements prove to the AMPTP that SAG-AFTRA’s terms are workable.

Sarah Silverman has softened her stance on SAG-AFTRA’s strategy to allow certain independent productions to keep shooting during the strike after actors guild president Fran Drescher met with her and other critics of the waiver policy.
In a video posted to Instagram, Silverman said Drescher and SAG-AFTRA national executive director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland laid out the union’s strategy with the waivers in an online meeting this weekend.
As Silverman recounted, SAG-AFTRA requires productions that apply for the waiver to agree to all the terms that the guild proposed to the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers prior to the strike.
Some of these productions may be acquired for distribution by an AMPTP-member studio after completion, but those studios must also agree to the guild’s proposed contract or, if the strike is resolved, whatever terms are in the new contract.

Viola Davis is stepping away from producing “G20,” announcing the decision in a statement signaling support for Hollywood’s ongoing strikes. Like over 100 other independent films, the upcoming action thriller received an interim agreement from SAG-AFTRA to continue production through the ongoing actors strike. But Davis won’t move forward with filming, setting a precedent for A-list talent negotiating the prospect of continuing work as the actors’ guild and AMPTP wait to reach an agreement.
“I love this movie, but I do not feel that it would be appropriate for this production to move forward during the strike,” Davis said Saturday in a statement. Davis is also credited as a producer on the film. “I appreciate that the producers on the project agree with this decision. JuVee Productions and I stand in solidarity with actors, SAG/AFTRA and the WGA.”

Javier Grillo-Marxuach, a veteran of the TV space who has most recently served as both a writer and EP on Netflix’s The Witcher — prior to the start of the dual strikes — has come forward to address accusations of “scabbing” prompted by his posts on social media.
Grillo-Marxuach joins a growing list of guild members, between WGA and SAG-AFTRA, that have faced harsh rebukes from peers of activity that is, in fact, guild-approved. Inciting this particular incident were social posts promoting the aforementioned fantasy drama, which as he notes, were made with WGA dictates in mind.
“Today i was accused of scabbing for posting about, and showing the title card and promo for #TheWitcher – which i did of my own volition and not at the request of my corporate overlords – and for engaging with fans of the show,” wrote Grillo-Marxuach. “While my actions are completely within the guild’s strike...

Viola Davis has announced she is stepping away from her upcoming project, G20, despite SAG-AFTRA providing the film with a waiver that allowed it to start production amid the actors strike.
“I love this movie, but I do not feel that it would be appropriate for this production to move forward during the strike,” Davis said in a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter. “I appreciate that the producers on the project agree with this decision. The Oscar winner’s decision comes one day after the performers union noted that the project could begin filming — despite the involvement of Amazon Studios — because it hails from the non-amptp-affiliated studio MRC and is only being distributed by Amazon.

Viola Davis is backing away from “G20” in a move that may put pressure on other A-listers.
The Egot winner says she’s stepping away from the project even after the film got the SAG-AFTRA interim agreement necessary to start production.
“I love this movie, but I do not feel that it would be appropriate for this production to move forward during the strike,” said the 57-year-old in a statement obtained by Et. “I appreciate that the producers on the project agree with this decision. JuVee Productions and I stand in solidarity with actors, SAG/AFTRA and the WGA.”
On Friday, SAG-AFTRA shared via its website that “G20” was approved for a waiver. Davis was set to produce and star in the film that secured the go-ahead from the actors guild, even given the involvement of Amazon Studios, because the project hails from the non AMPTP-affiliated MRC and will only be distributed by Amazon.

Viola Davis won’t begin filming her new movie “G20” until the actors strike is resolved, despite receiving a SAG-AFTRA waiver that would have allowed production to take place. In a statement provided to Deadline, Davis explained why she and her partners at JuVee Productions decided to halt work on the film.
“I love this movie, but I do not feel that it would be appropriate for this production to move forward during the strike,” David said. “I appreciate that the producers on the project agree with this decision. JuVee Productions and I stand in solidarity with actors, SAG/AFTRA and the WGA.”
“G20” is a thriller that stars Davis as an American president who is forced to deal with terrorists overtaking the G20 summit. The film will be directed by Patricia Riggen and written by Noah and Logan Miller. The film is set to be distributed by Amazon Studios,...

“G20” may be among the projects that got an interim waiver from SAG-AFTRA to continue amid Hollywood’s double strike, but the film’s star Viola Davis still won’t be participating.

Though the movie is set to be distributed by Amazon Studios — one of the many that SAG-AFTRA and the WGA are striking right now — it earned a waiver because that’s the extent of Amazon’s involvement. Actor-comedian Sarah Silverman is confused about the large volume of projects that have been granted interim agreements by SAG-AFTRA to film during the actors strike. And she is not alone.
“I feel f*cking pissed off, and I know I just must not be understanding something. There are like 40 movies being made right now,” Silverman said in a video posted on Instagram Thursday night. “When SAG joined the strike, it’s, ‘Movie stars aren’t making movies for you anymore, now what are you going to do?’ Well, they’re making movies. What the f*ck?”
Deadline’s list, which is being updated daily, features 102 film and TV titles — the vast majority of them movies — that have received permission to shoot since the SAG-AFTRA work stoppage began on July 14, with the casts featuring a number of Oscar winners.

The Viola Davis-led action thriller film from MRC, with distribution by Amazon, “G20” will not move forward with production after it received an interim agreement from SAG-AFTRA.
On Friday, the actors guild shared a list of projects that were able to continue production “without being in violation of the strike order” and have signed interim agreements with SAG-AFTRA to do so. On that list was “G20,” which Davis was tapped to to star in and produce. Davis and producers have no plans to move forward with production.
Developed with MRC Film, the Amazon Original feature will premiere on Prime Video, though a release date is unknown. Davis was set to star as Taylor Sutton, a U.S. president who must channel her extensive state leadership and military experience to defend her country when a terrorist group overtakes the G20 Summit. “The 33” filmmaker Patricia Riggen signed on to direct from...

Guy Ritchie project among first productions to get new ‘interim - casting’ agreement.
SAG-AFTRA has introduced a new category of limited interim agreement for independent productions allowing Guild members to audition and have casting discussions while the actors’ strike continues.
An untitled project from Guy Ritchie is among the five productions granted ‘interim – casting’ agreements. Under such agreements, according to a SAG-AFTRA web page, “members may audition and/or engage in negotiations regarding casting…but may not yet travel, rehearse, or otherwise begin rendering services for the production.”

G20, an action-thriller from MRC that Viola Davis was set in November to both star in and produce, has been granted an interim agreement from SAG-AFTRA, the guild revealed via its website on Friday.
Sources tell Deadline that the starry title made the cut for a waiver, even given the involvement of Amazon, because the project is officially an MRC production and will only be distributed by Amazon. But even with the agreement in hand, neither Viola Davis nor the producers have any plans to resume production at this time.
G20 is the latest high-profile project to land an interim agreement, on the heels of Apple TV+’s series Tehran, New Line pickup The Watchers from Ishana Night Shyamalan, Glenn Close’s The Summer Book and A24 titles Mother Mary and Dreams of a Unicorne.

Not every TV and film production will stop amid dual strikes by SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild of America. A host of projects stopped work after writers went on strike against media companies for better pay, streaming data transparency and protections against artificial intelligence (among other issues), and many more have paused since actors walked out on July 14.
There are exceptions, however. SAG-AFTRA’s strike rules allow for work on productions covered under different agreements, and the union can grant waivers or sign interim agreements with independent productions. Below is a list of TV shows and films that fall under those designations; this story will be updated as more productions earn waivers.
