Almost Two Hours Headache With Saradon and Crossin.

Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat (2023) : Movie Review -

Anurag Kashyap finally enters a full-fledged romantic zone with "Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat," starring Alaya F and Karan mehta. The director has his own maverick theories of filmmaking, and I believe that he never cared about the box office. He has directed almost one and a half dozen films and is yet to deliver a single box office hit. His biggest hit gets an 'Average' verdict at the box office, but wait, we can't talk about the box office when we are discussing Anurag Kashyap. The man lives in his own world of films, which is highly intellectual, and I, as a quality cinema lover, adore him for that. There have been many directors in Russian cinema, Italian cinema, Turkish cinema, and nowadays, Korean cinema, but when it comes to Bollywood, I mean the current days of Bollywood, there's no one of his calibre. But somewhere down the line, I see the quality of his film decreasing, and it is hurting that true cinema buff in me. The Kashyap of Black Friday is lost nowadays, and when you see Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat, you'll agree more. It is unbearable for such a maverick and unique director to go down like this.

Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat is a set of two modern-day love stories, and as you see in the trailer, there are double roles. It's not a generation gap like "Love Aaj Kal," but these are two stories running at the same time. Recently, Telugu cinema came up with an astounding masterpiece called "C/o Kancharapalem" (2018), which had multiple love stories linked with each other. Kashyap's film attempts a similar theme with a double role formula. Remember those old Bollywood films where one of the lovers is killed and then the love story will rise again with a lookalike? Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, for instance. Here we have a love-jihad angle sown into the modern age love stories of Harmeet-Aisha and Yakub-Amrita (played by Karan Mehta and Alaya F). One story is set in London, while the other one is set in Dalhousie, India. As expected, both stories are linked to each other, but how and why is all you have to find out in the film. It's not difficult, to be honest, but it's not effective either.

Anurag Kashyap's writing is outdated for this one, and I pinched myself twice before writing this. His doing remakes of Spanish films was okay for me if he was writing an original piece of this low quality. So many conflicts and turnarounds, but not a single clear motive. Just like Amrita's dialogue: "What are we doing? Just wandering. We have no plans, no money, and no Purpose!" Here, Anurag has less money and zero idea of what he is doing. The film lacks originality, creativity, common sense, and ethical values that are needed in "Mohabbat bhari pyaari love story". It is for the social media generation, which is immature and eager to fall in love and run away without any plans. It could have added a message there, like Nagraj Manjule's Sairat did, even though it ended up glorifying honour killing in the regional districts. Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat sees no improvement whatsoever in its narrative. It just comes, goes, and ends without any impact. One question to filmmakers: why do you have to make fun of law and order and the media in almost every film for no reason? See how law and media are misused and put down in the film.

Talking about performances, the film is balanced from both sides, negative and positive. Alaya F would look mature when it came to crying scenes and heavy emotional scenes, but would look like a kid or an intern while delivering normal dialogue. Karan Mehta has a long way to go, and this performance surely made me believe that. It's pretty shocking that both actors got double roles, which means so much versatility, and yet failed to make gold out of it. Vicky Kushal has an extended cameo, and how sexy does he look! He plays DJ Mohabbat, and what intellectual monologues he throws at you! You are going to be flat. The supporting cast is fine with no one playing any big roles, as everyone gets their small piece of cake.

Amit Trivedi has spread his magic again in "Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat. He knows the pulse of the young generation and delivers a social media-friendly music album. "Ghanghor Connection," "Netflix and Chill," "Duniya," "Maintenance," and "Mohabbat Se Kranti" are bonafide Spotify hits. Sadly, the visualisation is weak. In a couple of songs, you'll not see the faces of dancers, and one or two songs appear at the wrong time, so let us consider them a waste. By golly, what the heck was that "Maintenance" song there for? Completely out of context. The lyrics are crispy, though. The cinematography is strictly average, and the editing lacks tight grip. Anurag Kashyap's direction is far below his own high standard. It's a red card for him, I guess. Overall, Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat is almost a waste of your two hours and a couple hundred bucks you'd like to spend. Modern love can be far more intelligent and unique. This isn't just that.

Anurag is going the Ramu way
pandyaparth-845728 February 2023
After a tired weekend this was the last thing that I needed to see.

The story ust never moves forward. It would have been a better short film.

Didn't even stay till the end.

Plot...what's that ... Could have been handled of a short story lol

Screen play ..below average

Actors ... mediocre to fine ... I belive they could have pulled more out of their roles...but it's the directors job.

Music ...worth forgetting.

I think after Bombay velvet this is the second atombomb on viewers brains.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki package done ...now no more anuraag bhaia !!!

Alert !! Please don't waste your hard earned money on this!

Better watch old episode of TMKUC on Tv again or some standup comedy than this joke. It will atleast entertain.

Almost Pyaar with DJ Bhanchu
dsaddsad-880485 April 2023
Disgusting movie name ever. I recently watched the film "Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat," which was a complete waste of time. The plot was so convoluted that following what was happening half the time was impossible. The characters were poorly developed and lacked depth, making it hard to care about their fates.

The acting was also incredibly subpar. The actors seemed to go through the motions without emotion or conviction. The clunky and unrealistic dialogue made the whole experience feel incredibly forced and artificial.

The special effects were laughably bad, and the soundtrack was so generic that I couldn't even remember a single song. The cinematography was unremarkable, and the film was not visually interesting or captivating.

Overall, "Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat" is a film that should be avoided at all costs. It's a poorly written, badly acted, and executed movie mess. Save your time and money and watch something else instead.

Surprised to see Anurag Kashyap coming out with a movie like this.. I'm guessing the producer wanted wash some money!

Have utmost respect for Anurag Kashyap and his intellect for film making. This movie definitely took me by surprise.. everything was below par.. music, story, acting, screenplay.. But hey.. sat through the movie hoping it would definitely turn out better. Disappointed to say the least! Maybe he was being experimental or plain just trying to make a quick buck.. as we all know that's how the industry works! Looking forward to better films from Anurag Kashyap cause we all make mistakes..

Almost Anarchy with a Gen-Z Kashyap.
Amyth474 February 2023
My Rating : 7/10

After 2018's excellent Manmarziyaan Anurag Kashyap takes on a much more wilder take on love with 'Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat'. The usual dark ingredients are all there which we have come to love about him - controversial themes, political awareness, rebellion for mainstream, and to top it off - Amit Trivedi's beautiful soundtrack weaving it altogether in a nice tasty tapestry of a coup d'état of Bollywood and box office.

It is exactly as one would expect it - going over risqué territory without taking itself too seriously. Kashyap knows he's not aiming to make another 'Gangs' or 'Gulaal' - this is a bit more pretentious but on purpose and it works well I reckon.

The theory, history and culture of film is loosely discounted more or less - the viewer isn't expected to look for something transcendental, existential or spiritual for that matter. The script aptly responds to the talent of the newcomers and the style and poetics of the world created by the director. It's taken seven years for this to be taken from three to two-dimensions.

The final crescendo is the director casting off his known ingredients into a modern crucible, and transmutating into perhaps his rendition of Generation Z love - The climax shows the characters preparing for the proverbial kill in all its vulpine forms - a form of power play that the director hopes in a culture of paranoia, nihilism and misogyny can be recovered through that four-letter word in English. No, not that one, the other one.

Distinctively Kashyap!

Unadulterated Mediocre Trash
rajanahuja-8350915 April 2023
This movie was a complete disappointment - a mediocre trash of a film. It was such a chore to sit through, leaving me feeling frustrated and reminded of how valuable my time is. It seems the filmmakers had no regard for their audience's sensibilities, resulting in a waste of precious time.

This film was a complete waste of time. A slow slumber of a romantic plot interspersed with half wit & half cooked romantic philosophical psycho babble dished out as some new age enlightenment. Very very hollow, not only the script and the direction but also the overall holier than thou tone of the film.it seems like you're being put to sleep by a fake guru who hasn't learnt to do his job well. If you value your time, don't waste it on this film.

A tale of "Undercooked" love, obsession and decision
Rajit_thebingewatcher1 April 2023
Anurag Kashyap is known for his intense love stories, and "Almost Pyar with DJ Mohabbat" is no exception. The film explores the complexities of underdeveloped love stories, where the protagonists are oblivious to the consequences of their emotions, leading to a tragic ending. Kashyap beautifully and delicately portrays the caste divide and inequality between the two lovers, highlighting the challenges faced by individuals in a society that is divided by these issues.

However, the film lacks character development, leaving some viewers perplexed by the characters' decisions. The intended audience may be more mature and able to relate to the characters on a deeper level, but for others, it may be difficult to understand their motivations. Despite this, the film's nuanced approach to depicting the struggles of the characters adds depth and complexity to the story, making it worth watching and reflecting on the themes presented.

In "Almost Pyar with DJ Mohabbat," the parallel worlds of the characters are portrayed beautifully, with Yaqub, a Muslim man, falling deeply in love with Amrita, a Hindu woman, in the hills of India. Their relationship is complicated by their different backgrounds and the societal pressure placed upon them. Meanwhile, the wannabe music producer finds himself in a difficult situation when a girl becomes obsessed with him.

Overall, "Almost Pyar with DJ Mohabbat" is a thought-provoking film that delves into the complexities of love and societal issues in India. Although the character development could have been stronger, the film's nuanced approach to portraying the struggles of the characters adds depth and complexity to the story. It's a film that is definitely worth watching and pondering upon.

DIRECTOR IS ANURAG KASHYAP ? OR RAM GOPAL VARMA ?
kuntalmukherjee-111082 April 2023
Seems like this movie is directed by ramu and not by anurag kashyap we know who directed GOWS and Gulaal . Kashyap shouldnt try making love stories .

Also overall if you do not have anything to do and wanna waste your time please go ahead and not-enjoy the movie.

Failed to meet all basics dimensions in this movie wheather it's storytelling, screenplay, casting, direction, execution of story telling and even background score not upto the mark .

It is worst creation of Anurag Kashyap till date , bombay velvet was 10 times better than this .

Vicky kaushal is also wasted in the movie , .......

Different but same from Anurag Kashyap
harprabhcheema5 April 2023
The movie is very well written and directed as you never leave the writers world but only in a couple of places. You stay in that universe and feel exactly what the story wants you to feel. In some places story moves fast but does not feels rushed.

The wisdom dropped by dj mohabbat explains why he is that popular and why people listen to him.

The initial no connection between the stories and slowly the connections between both stories keep popping up and eventually the final scenes concludes both the stories together.

Not much becomes too obvious in the story and when it does it makes the next scene that's coming feel even better. It didn't feel like a Anurag Kashyap movie ( now it'll be easier to say Anurag Kashyap doesn't have a type) Loved the movie and the acting by both the leads.

Love shall bring the revolution
iknafilms1 April 2023
The film "Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat" touches on various contemporary issues such as love jihad, same-sex marriage, patriarchy, and dysfunctional families. However, the director, Anurag Kashyap, fails to effectively deliver the message to the audience due to trying to address too many topics at once. The music by Amit Trivedi, who is known for his work in Kashyap's previous films, lacks the usual charm he brings to his music, although it may still connect with the younger generation. "Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat" is a niche film that requires the viewer to engage deeply with the drama, but it is still worth watching for its strong performances and pulsating soundtrack.

Mostly flop

Sameer lodaya

The movie is not almost but mostly flop...

Keeping in Mind and a huge fan of ANURAG KASHYAP and with a weird title I saw this movie but can't believe it's anurags product...there was absolutely nothing in this movie without any reason the couples are running from here and there.....

Both alaya and Karan failed to look good in main lead of the movie and did not performed at all Karan sometimes acted very immature

Still cannot understand the connection between the title and the movie

Only music and locations were good

Sorry to the team for the negative review it's only to motivate you to make a good film.

Worst creation of Anurag Kashyap
manishkryadav-735092 April 2023
Highly disappointed to watch this latest creation of Anurag Kashyap, my only fav director of Indian cinema.

Failed to meet all basics dimensions in the cinemas wheather it's story, screenplay, casting, direction, execution of story telling.

It is worst creation of Anurag Kashyap till date.

Totally disheartened to see such nonsense and superfacial story on subject modern love and society.

Was very excited when heard that Anurag is working on this kind of project and was very happy that he is exploring all genres of cinemas nowadays and succeeded well till his last release Dobara. He has no match at all in his past creation of cinemas. But almost pyar has no sole in it. The story is very weak and irritating in it's execution. Some scenes are totally stitched as preaching for our society but in the movie story and character has no impacts and connection related to this.

The only good thing is music of Amit Trivedi. Audience should refrain from this movie like any movie in theatre states 'cigrate smoking is injurious to health'. Similarly this movie suits this line as well for the audience.

"almost pyaar with dj mohabbat" is almost good.
gangeshgnair6 April 2023
"almost pyaar with dj mohabbat" is almost good.

This movie gave me a "love aaj kal" 2009 directed by imtiaz ali vibe. This movie kind of has a similar writing pattern, two love stories, two different places, similar looking people. Some scenes were really good, both the love stories worked for me to an extent. The performances were really good. Karan Mehta looks like a really good promising actor. Aalya was really good. Amit Trivedi's songs were nice. I was engaged till the end.

The reviews were really bad, so i tuned into this movie with zero expectations, maybe that's why i thought the movie is pretty good. Vicky Kaushal's voice over didn't work for me actually, it was hard to figure out what he was telling and how it applied in the situations actually. The climax felt interesting, but still not that impactful and its a anurag kashyap movie, so the expectations are always high.

Watch it with zero expectations, it might work, it kind of worked for me.

Anurag's version of a sufi rom com
asitbehera2 April 2023
Fresh and light take on a love story. Watch out for the twist at the end. Both actors deliver great performances. The male actor's debut performance is something to watch out for here. He delivers in both the performances. Aaliyah is believable as a rich girl and a school girl at the same time. It feels like Anurag is trying to connect with the young crowd and trying to give their viewpoint in this new world. Someone wants to listen to them and understand them and that thought itself is beautiful here. He hasn't restricted himself to GOW genre and that's what is great about him. Hope he continues like this. Deeply regret not watching it in the theaters.

Movie is good but with a lot of confusion
shaqib1913 April 2023
Movie is good but with a lot of confusion. I didn't understand this parallel story running side by side . First, I thought it's some Love Aaj kal style storytelling and in whole movie I was just guessing the connection between the two stories but Director never explained clearly even in the climax. If I leave that aspect aside , then movie is watchable and understandable .

Songs are the heart and soul of this movie. You would really like to listen those songs again n again after movie is over. After songs, acting is the strong point of the movie. Alaya F has again showed her talent and she is emerging as a breakthrough star. Karan was good in Indian story but quite dull in performance in London story.

Story is mediocre but it will not matter you after film toggles between both plot side by side b'cos your mind starts linking the connection between the two plots. Don't use much brain otherwise you would get frustrated and not focus and enjoy movie and songs.

One star removing just for confusing plot otherwise you would loving the character especially the Indian one. Go and give it a try once.
