Terrible the way this movie demonized Frank. This guy funds a little league soccer team and time after time lets the dead-beat coach off the hook on his re-payment. He even takes his neighbors son Christian to soccer practice when his mom isn't available. Then when Christians mother gets into a car crash, because she was recklessly driving while on the cell phone, Frank takes in her son and lets him live with his family. Frank gets Christian a pair of soccer shoes that turn out to be magic. Christian realizes this but tries to keep it a secret so he can cheat his way to the top of the league. When Frank realizes this he tries to take his shoes away to make him play a fair game but always gets caught. When the big championship game comes around, Frank has had enough and decides to lock Christian in his room in an attempt to preserve the integrity of the game. Obviously the team isn't doing so well without Christian and his cheater cleats. Christian manages to break out of his room and get a ride to the game but he realizes his shoes are missing and he's going to have to play with a legit pair for once. He actually manages to make the game winning goal without cheating! Frank being the good guy that he is didn't want to rat out Christian, so he personally congratulates him (on finally playing fair) and gets punched in the face by the mother! So now the dead-beat coach finally has enough money to pay back Frank because they won the championship. No helping Frank off the ground after being assaulted, no 'thank you' he just cuts a check and throws it on his chest like a dirty whore. This movie should have been called Little Shitty Cheater Shoes.

Worst acting ever...
Worst cgi ever, for example when Christian is practicing in the backyard...
The story is terrible, and irrealistic. Not the part of the magical shoes because that wold be expected to be irrealistic...
I am talking about the part of a kid doing ONE good game, and I already have the media all over him...
It is one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

Truly the worst film I have ever seen. Thought I could watch this with my two young boys, eight and nine, but couldn't bring myself to finish it. Awful from beginning to as far as you can watch it before you start believing there is no God. If Eric Roberts was paid more than £4 for this role someone should be shot. And by someone I mean everyone involved in this film.

I had to watch this as I had to translate it. So... not by choice.
Three things make this movie a mess, IMO.
First of all, the kid is... I don't even know how to put it. He has only one face the entire movie. It's clear he has absolutely ZERO acting skills. He cannot read one single line without making us feel like his dad (the producer) is behind the camera urging him "Come on, kid, say the line!" Almost all the other children are quite OK, the fat kid is good, the twins... But the "star". He looks almost embarrassed to be there.
The story. So this kid is a ball boy, he enters three minutes a game, suddenly plays for half a game and is somehow in the news. A kid in some obscure youth league in Michigan goes on to meet the President of the USA... OK. I get the nation needs a feelgood story plot, but this is hilarious.
The propaganda. Aahh, the mighty American army. Of course, the Americans soldiers are in some foreign country, bringing freedom, no doubt, when the father of the kid goes missing. They actually deploy some "spiders" and "dragonflies" in a surreal scene, that made me think for a second "is this a SciFi?" No, it's just a random CGI nonsense, no explanation scene. I'm not even kidding, it's like the writer was high, working on multiple scripts and he got confused. The liberties and freedoms speech of the President is nauseating.
I'm not sure how so many established and famous actors were convinced to take part in this. My guess is they owed some sort of debt to the producer, who wanted so much to turn his son into a star. I have no other explanation.
Avoid at all costs.

Not sure when they made this film that they watched it back to see if it made any sense. Watched it with my young footy mad son & was not expecting anything great but it was embarrassing for both of us to watch. The kid already had new boots & was wearing them when he was taken to the shop so why he was taken to get new ones by the guy who did not like him is just bizarre & the full green screen stadium is laughable. The military parts are so low rent & not needed. Even small children will laugh at how bad this film is & special mention for Eric Roberts terrible make up & bright pink lipstick.

Nice movie about dealing with adversity and never giving up. His dad is away fighting for our country and his mom ends up in the hospital after finding out her husband is MIA. He is then in temporary custody by Frank, their neighbor and sponsor for the team. Frank is highly controlling and does not allow Christian to visit his mom in the hospital. Frank even tells Christian to "toughen" up that he will see his mother soon enough. Eric Roberts does a great job at playing the bad guy. If you do not like traditional messages or want Shakespearean acting then this movie is not for you. If you want a simple movie to enjoy on a Sunday afternoon then this is for you.

There are so many inaccuracies in this movie that are ruining the movie. Simple things like the boy shooting the ball to one corner and then in the next movieshot you see the ball going into another corner. Unnecessary and ridiculous tricks that no professional would ever do in a match and only are done by the annoying self focussed kid that doesn't pass the ball and ruins the match for others.
Then you have the many inaccuracies around the rules around soccer, if you make a movie about soccer then it might help knowing the rules.
Okay lets say you can tolerate the soccer stuff.
Then you can within the first few minutes telling what is going to happen through the whole movie. And not like 50%, no you can predict 95% of the movie.
And stupid things that are just not possible in real life. How does it happen that the army suddenly find the father after years in perfect health and get him home the same day? How is hitting someone knock-out in the middle of a stadium tolerated?
Okay sure sometimes you just want to watch a movie like a brain dead zombie and you don't care about above mentioned stuff.
Then i hope at least that you care about acting, because it is just bad in most scenes.
So why did i watch it? Because my little brother insisted to watch it while i was waiting in the same room for something else. I am writing this review in the hope that everyone can be saved from this movie, that it gets removed from Netflix to begin with.

Where should I start. It's a total car crash of a movie with not a single positive thing to boost for it. Youth football is depicted as a sport for adults, and the kids are being treated like garbage. A complete waste of time. Do not watch it. Watch paint dry. It's more fun.

This movie was a lost cause since the very beginning. The only decent part was at the very start when Ronaldo showed up, unedited and naturally shown, compared to the rest of the movie that felt totally forced and fabricated. The kid thought his shoes were yeezys because he valued them more than himself, making him a virgin hypebeast. Also the old man was a tryhard all along and they pulled the og movie cliche that he was a pointless character only to have his background be revealed at the very end. The stadium looked worse than Cyberpunk 2077 at launch, with the crowd looking like GIFS on green screen. I wasted precious time that i could've used to practice actual football and still be better than all of those noobs. Go back to LIDL director, get good.

Honestly one of the worst films I have ever seen. I expected a standard, feel-good family film about a ragtag bunch of kids overcoming adversity, but this honestly makes 'Alex and Me' look like Citizen Kane.
It's hard to know where to begin! The script is dire, the acting is wooden, the effects are laughably bad, and sometimes just completely tangential and unnecessary (How about those high-tech flying military "dragonflies"? Why????). Most importantly, the soccer scenes are overly long, slow and just horribly inaccurate. I tried watching this with my daughter, who was recovering from surgery. It's lucky she didn't bust a stitch from laughing and groaning so hard.
Almost bad enough to be funny, but life is too short. In 90 minutes, you could watch an actual soccer game with more drama and better acting.

It was really a great movie! Golden Shoes showed how to stand up for yourself and believe in yourself. It filled my kids with determination. Had a couple of curse words, nothing too serious. It's about a kid who is an only child, father MIA and mother in the hospital, being taken care of by his hateful neighbor who threatens to throw him out into the streets. However, he rises up in his soccer team and proves haters wrong. I completely recommend this movie! The only reason it is not 10/10 is because some of the army parts didn't make sense to us not in the army, like the scene with little droid things. Overall it was really good!

Luke Marogy: Bro Christian was unreal in that movie. Bro is the next Ronaldo. Don't even get me started with Heem that clip in the pizza place is unmatched. Props to big Norm for directing this masterpiece. Big recommendation for those soccer fans. Matthew Marogy: Christian Koza's acting in this movie is absolutely unmatched and unappreciated, the kid really needs a role in a major movie. Don't get me started on Brahim and Narvana Mammo, two absolute masters in the art of acting. Christian Koza's skills in the movie are out of this world, really inspires a kid that wants to get out there with the ball at his feet. L Kadin Koza for not showing up to set though.
