Bill Hader, who garnered critical acclaim for HBO's Barry, is set to return to the network with a series centered on Jonestown and cult leader Rev. Jim Jones. The show, which is in the early stages of development, will see Hader serve as a co-executive producer, co-writer, and co-showrunner alongside Daniel Zelman, who is best known for his work on Damages and Bloodline. According to Variety, Hader will also direct if the project moves forward, and could potentially star.
Hader's return to HBO is notable, given the success of his last network outing, Barry. The dark comedy concluded in 2023, after a critically acclaimed four-season run. Along with co-creating the series, serving as a writer, and directing several episodes, Hader starred as the titular character, a US Marine turned disillusioned hitman who discovers a passion for acting. The series earned Hader two Emmys in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series category.

Paramount Pictures has added a third “Angry Birds Movie” to its release slate, setting it for January 29, 2027.
Paramount takes over as distributor from Sony Pictures, which released the first “Angry Birds Movie” from Rovio Animation in 2016, grossing $352 million worldwide. The film yielded a 2019 sequel that didn’t fly nearly as high with $152.2 million, though insiders at Paramount say that the films have seen robust viewership on streaming over the past five years.
Rovio returns as producers on the film with Sega, which acquired Rovio and “Angry Birds” in 2023 and which has partnered with Paramount on the “Sonic the Hedgehog” films. Namit Malhotra will also produce through his company Prime Focus Studios, in partnership with Flywheel Media, One Cool Group, and
Dentsu. Dneg, the animation studio behind “The Garfield Movie,” “Nimona” and the upcoming “The Cat in the Hat,” will animate the film.

Warner Bros has just made some razor-sharp release-date changes ahead of CinemaCon, ones that could potentially keep the Burbank, CA lot more toward the black this year than in the red.
In a year when there were four $100 million-plus auteur-driven movies — one of which, Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17, recently misfired — Warners Bros distribution has taken the pressure off the studios’ schedule in that regard, and even placed a potential tentpole into the year: Zach Cregger’s anticipated genre movie Weapons on August 8.
Cregger’s next movie after Barbarian was previously scheduled for MLK weekend 2026, on January 16. What kept Warners from moving the pic starring Josh Brolin, Julia Garner and Alden Ehrenreich was that the theatrical release was tied to Imax screens — can’t give up those auditoriums. In fact, what made all of the release-date changes feasible for Warners was that each was tied to Imax bookings. As...
