Thanks Anirban Bhattacharya, for taking us back to the Golden years of 60's & 70's Bengali Wholesome comedies. Adapted from a play of Badal Sarkar, this movie boasts of fantastic performances with impeccable comic timing, especially Satyam Bhattacharya and Shyamal Chakraborty as Bhupati & Monohar. The dialogues are well written and the laughs are less reliant on slapstick and more on irony and sarcasm. The most special part of this film is the Cinematography by Soumik Haldar, the shot selection, lighting and color grading, everything was world class. Music also contributes a lot to set up the mood. The retro vibe of the film fills us with nostalgia. A great Family entertainer.

Another top notch quality work by Anirban and team after Mandaar. Screenplay, cinematography, sound design, acting was really emersive. The way they portraied the landscapes of Bengal, I'v only heard those in my grandpa's stories and not many films have actually shown that in recent times.
Badal Sarkar's story needs no further praise. The way they presented it on the big screen was brilliant as the story was revolving in a single courtroom but it never felt monotonous.
Every scene is visually very asthetic and makers made sure that you will never get the same experience in a small screen. Its one of those films which youll miss, not watching in the cinema hall.
The songs in this movie are really purposefull and well written. They do get stuck in your mind for days and you'll keep humming "Shajo sajao" or "Charsho bochor periye ajo dariye ache" unknowingly.
The actors did a really good job. Everyone really pulled of their charecters well.
The comedy sometimes missed the mark but 90% of it hit the mark really well.
Overall its a complete film and a must watch if you want a light hearted comedy-horror experience.

Watched a wholesome Bangla entertainer after a very long time! As a huge Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay fan, each frame and scene of Ballabhpurer Roopkatha was a delight for me to watch. Every actor, despite not being the so called established names, did a swell job of bringing the characters to life. The protagonist, Satyam Bhattacharya, is just mind blowing! Such a simple, linear story told in such an engaging way! The dialogs are just optimally comic, the supernatural setting is perfectly balanced with the comic one...I can go on and on. One small disppointnent: would have loved to see the director playing one of the roles.
Watch this one and watch it along with the little ones.

This year, Bengali Cinema has gifted us with so many gems, Ballabhpurer Roopkotha is the icing on the cake. I can say, this is The BEST Bengali Comedy after Anik Dutta's Bhooter Bhabishyat. This is completely a TRUE Bengali film. You may predict the story in moments but you'll enjoy every single minute of the film.
An amazing ensemble cast performance. Though everyone was equally brilliant loved Debraj Bhattacharya the most both as an actor and music composer. I think his character was tough to portray, but he did it with perfection. All the songs are too good & also quite unique.

I am feeling very proud that i am Bengali. The movie was very Heart touching. Lots of emotions and Best Comedy movie. I do respect Anirban, how he present entire thing and his effort.

Horror-comedy is probably one of those niche subgenres that the Bengali film industry has traditionally disparaged! As is readily apparent by scrutinizing their history and the films they have produced up until the present day. Now, I am not suggesting that there have been no previous attempts; in fact, there have been a few, but the number is tiny.
It's quite an uncharted territory, scarcely explored, so I'd want to personally thank the actor-director Anirban Bhattacharya for taking this audacious initiative and for providing us such a delightfully entertaining journey.
Not only did he accomplish an almost perfect balance between two separate filmmaking styles (Horror & Comedy), but he also exuded this rare technical competence that seems to cater to both the elite and the ordinary. A rare quality indeed.

This movie is a gem, pure gem. The performance of each and every character were beyond amazing. I could not tell if they were doing their part, it felt so real and so honest, so funny, so emotional, so dramatic. Kudos to Anirban, for creating this masterpiece. And of course, Late Badal Sircar for writing such an incredible play.
I recently watched many popular movies in different languages like RRR, Brahmastra, Avatar way of water. I don't like to compare movies, but those movies were too lengthy, were not very engaging. I am surprised how much box office record they did.
The sad part is that a brilliant film like Ballabhpurer Roopkotha did not get its due. If we, bengalis don't promote our talents in bigger forums then who else would.
Go to theaters or get Hoichoi subscription and WATCH Ballabhpurer Roopkotha.

It has been a long while since I have watched a cinema in a theatre, that kept me entertained and engaged thoroughly, throughout its run; like this one did. The acting was spot on, the pacing was legit, the story felt like a good 60s Bengali comedy film, and the humour.... I can't remember the last time I laughed so much in a theatre. The only film I think I have watched that can be compared to this film tonally and thematically, is Bhooter Bhobishot... I would definitely recommend anyone looking for a good, hearty laugh; that can be enjoyed with family, to check it out. This film merits attraction, exploring the rich sides of Bengali theatre, that is nowhere used enough in cinemas.

This film is about a man Raja bhallav who's desperately wanting to sell his ancestors Rajbari but is unable to do so because of its poor condition and the existence of a ghost with a past. Fun begins when a genuine buyer turns up and Bhallav needs to act well in order to sell the house.
It's not a howlarious film but the fun and comedy are light and so naturally pulled off that it instantly brings a grin or smile on your face. There's no shouting screaming like comedy , just pure conversations and sometimes hilarious confusions especially when Chanda keeps questioning Bhallav and his friend Sanjib .
If you are looking for a nice light hearted comedy , this is one film for you.

A descendant from a Royal family at Ballabhpur, Bhupati Roy who is broke and urgently in need of money decides to sell his crumbling 400-year-old palace to repay his debters and start a law practice in partnership with his friend. As prepares to impress a buyer who is fond of heritage structures, Bhupati Roy doesn't tell him that the palace is haunted by the ghost of a cursed ancestor.
A comedy of errors then ensues as the ghost makes its appearance in the presence of the buyers. Will Bhupati Roy be able to sell his house ? Will the cursed soul ever find peace ?
Another masterpiece by Anirban Bhattacharya. Superb direction, impeccable comic timing & Grt casting where all the actors slip into their characters seamlessly.
A treat to watch overall.

The quality and intelligence applied in this movie can only be celebrated by nominating for National Award or Oscar. The screenplay, cinematography, cast, crew, direction all are exceptional. Appreciating this kind of movie will only enrich the subject of arts and culture. I can see the combined intelligence of team throughout the movie. If someone believe in performing arts, he/she should watch this movie. The discipline and hard work put by the team, is visible throughout the movie. I shall be looking for many more movies from this team in future. Once again, thank you to all the team for providing such a splendid experience.

After a long time, to be precise, after Bhooter Bhobishyot (2012), we have seen such a complete Bengali entertainer. The drama beautifully increases as the movie progresses as well as the comedy. Really enjoyed the movie thoroughly. We love watching Anirban's acting and we know he is a matured actor, so had a lot of expectations when we came to know that he is directing the film. And when expectations are high, it really becomes difficult for a film to stand up to the expectations, but this film just excelled.
A big thanks to Anirban and the whole team for such a wonderful movie. A great debut for Anirban Bhattacharya as a director for sure.

Such an innovative writing and then tremendous commitment towards the charecters from the actors.
We live to watch such movies, envy ourselves as intellectuals when we appreciate such movies. But that's our pride.
Casting was apt, the plot was tremendous, and yet it leaves certain questions unanswered.. Each character is so strong that he/she could carry the entire movie , alone , on his/her shoulders. Dialogues are smooth and deliveries are very professional.
Interesting experimentation over voice over. Vividly dark background mocking the present day nuances. The movie does reflect the misuse of power and the absurdity of our praying to it.

This is the story of a 400 yrs old ancient spirit inculcating in the realm of ballavpur. Bhupati, the present king of ballavpur is subdued by a huge debt. Hence, selling his palatial mansion seemed the only resolution for him. But, his fate seemed to betray a bit when the ghost of his ancestor raghupati, who is bhupati's exact lookalike, appears & recites kalidas's 'meghdut'. Chanda, the daughter of the interested buyer mistakes raghu for bhupati & makes advances towards him. All these incidents lead to a great confusion. But, above all lies the story retold over centuries. The story of the fate of raghu & the way for his salvation. Will it be possible? Or, whether bhupati will be successful in finalising the deal. All these answers lie in the movie. Watch it out.
