So what's so special about this predictable drama on Indian telly that's been mesmerizing people across demographies, geographies and psychographies?
funanyeah1 May 2012
It's not the age-old love-hate premise of the show that entices you in the first place. It's not even the enthralling beauty visible in every frame and discourse that's not only aesthetically pleasing but also innovative in its own way. It's the beautifully presented take on relationships that forces you to be a part of Arnav and Khushi's never ending spats, their inexplicable and undeniable attraction towards one another that makes you sit back in awe and lets you appreciate the fact that even the unlikeliest people can do wonders when they fall in love. Arnav Singh Raizada is like a sea shell. Tough, unyielding and unmistakeably beautiful. He is egoistic, unabashedly arrogant and taciturn. He attributes his success to no one. He can be ruthless, unemotional, cunning, brilliant all at the same time. Yet it's not unless you place your ear close to the shell that you realize how many secrets it hides. Arnav has created impenetrable physical and emotional boundaries around himself. His elder sister Anjali, who has been his sole companion through thick and thin (their parents died when Arnav was about eleven and their uncle threw them out of their house) is the only person who knows him inside out. Both share an immeasurably deep bond. Khushi is nothing short of a storm in Arnav's apparently calm and controlled life. Her effervescence, enthusiasm and love for life is completely at odds with Arnav's. She's a born trouble-maker; even her in-deliberate actions sometimes spell trouble for her and people around her. Yet she's full of love and compassion, always ready to help others and despite her loud and colorful exterior, in essence she's a simple and humble person. What happens when two lightnings strike each other? Sparks fly. A classic tale of opposites attract, Arnav and Khushi are a stark contrast in every possible way. Arnav is a diabetic- not only is he allergic to sugar, he's allergic to attraction and love as well. Khushi is born in a family of sweet-makers. Arnav is stubbornly taciturn and inexpressive, Khushi is a complete chatter-box. Arnav's doesn't like changes - even his black and white clothes reflect his control-freak attitude. Khushi is like a walking rainbow - from clothes to handbags to shoes. Khushi blasts Arnav's ego from Day One. And despite trying hard not to, both of them are fascinated by each other. Harder they try to be apart from each other, more the situations pull them closer. Khushi discovers facets of Arnav that no one knows. The pain and insecurity due to his troubled past that has made him so hard to figure out. The love that he bestows on people when he wants to. However, each time they come too close, a big misunderstanding erupts and yanks them apart. The day Arnav realizes his love for Khushi, he also discovers a terrible secret. His brother-in-law Shyam (Anjali's husband) is in love with Khushi. Due to a series of miscommunication and misunderstandings, Arnav is driven to a conclusion that Khushi and Shyam were having an affair behind everyone's back. He's broken by disappointment and betrayal. To seek revenge as well as to save his sister's marriage, he forces Khushi into a six-month contract marriage. More misunderstandings follow. Both are torn between love and hatred for each other. Though the plot isn't new, the unique narration - romance sprinkled with spicy humor is delightful and pleasant. Their fights are adorable, their romance is delectable and their pain tugs at your heart. Beside excellent presentation, the awesome acting prowess of the lead as well as supporting actors and the unmistakeably crackling on-screen chemistry of the protagonists are some of the many factors which make this show rock not only in India but throughout the world. After a long time, some quality entertainment with predictable but palatable twists that sweep you off your feet.

That's IPKKND for you.

Superb chemistry makes it what it is
suyashsomvanshi727 July 2019
First, Little bit about me. I am currently unemployed for a while now. So sitting at home I watch tv series and movies all day. I have watched lots of great tv shows in my college days from crime dramas like Breaking Bad, Sopranos to comedies like Seinfeld, The Office etc. So you see, I have seen some superbly written stuff on the screen. IPKKYND is not one of them. I am an Indian and I hear a lot about quality of our hindi TV shows . One has to understand that the target audience is very different in case of these soap operas. You can't expect 'Sherlock' to be enjoyed by a audience that consists primarily of Moms, teenage girls who are looking for some entertainment. Secondly it is unfair to compare shows that are tightly written for 80-100 episodes with these tv shows that run for more than 400 episodes. So when I say IPKKND is very good serial ,I say it minding all these limitations. What works for this show is the chemistry between two leads and I have to say that, the director has exploited that a lot. Sometimes it seems Arnab and Khusi make eye contact for too long amidst an shot sequence that seems improbable in real life. A background tune comes every time they meet, (I have to admit that I really started liking it ,by the time show ended ) while camera moves around showing their faces. It amazes me that it never felt overdone (It might have to do with big crush I have on Sanaya) Apart from the two leads, small charecters are woven beautifully into the plot. Mamiji ,Buaji,NK, Nani ji all do justice to their role. My favourite is Buaji with her 'NandKishore', with Mamiji a close second. The show is far from perfect and around sixth season I wanted to quit watching . It seemed like they wanted to overstretch the show with some loose storylines. However I stuck to it as I really felt connected with the characters. All in all a show recommended to viewers who like romance with bits of comedy.

A Gem of a Show for Early Daytime Indian Soap Operas. A must-watch!
purplerice00018 April 2022
IPKKND is one of those shows that sticks out among the rest, despite the classic enemies-to-lovers trope, and that's because of the great writing of this show. Even though this show checks the boxes for a lot of clichés like the brooding, mysterious, unemotional CEO male lead and the complete opposite female lead who is all sunshine and kindness, the creators of the show have this unique way of making them shine in their own special way. Not only do the writers make you care about the intricately written main characters, they also make you give a damn about the side characters, which is really difficult to do, especially in Indian daytime soap operas. They all matter and have their own unique personality that adds to the story and makes you want to keep watching. Not to mention this show has some hilarious bits and some really emotional moments. The main actors have amazing chemistry and I'd like to really praise Sanaya Irani (Khushi) for her amazing acting, it didn't feel like she was acting at all! She was so natural and she deserves more recognition for her work, she did fantastic! She's one of the best female leads I've seen out of all the Indian dramas I've watched. Barun also did amazing and played his role really well, showing emotions related to his role and giving depth to Arnavs character and of course, he was nice to look at too 😉. As a Bengali-American, I love this show and this is a must-watch for anyone interested in or beginning to watch Indian soap operas as this is one of the more intelligent ones. This is a staple in Indian daytime drama and an instant classic, highly recommend!

Excellent Entertainer! :-)
shyloo200018 June 2012
A daily soap which is totally different from any other serials so far. 22 minutes of absolute entertainment. The best thing is there is no unnecessary rona dhona.

Its special because of its team. Be it the director, editor, screenplay, cinematography and of course the cast!! (heart and soul of the show) everyone is simply superb.

This show has redefined the perception of a daily serial. It is intense and fast paced. Timely comedies and dialogs add additional flavor! So if you want some fun everyday then just switch on your television sets at 8 PM (IST). This will keep you glued and engaged!

More importantly you will never be disappointed with this :) Thanks!

Excellent Chemistry and the best TV series
arnavkhushilover25 August 2013
Love this series a lot.......specially ArShi

I have seen the first promo of this telly series and thought this JODI have that sparkling chemistry which can get u hooked..........And the 4th promo is the icing on the cake....With that promo I fell in love with the serial and actually waited for 6th June for the serial to get started

In the first Episode itself heroine falls in the arms of Hero........And the sparks flew.........I think this is the best First episode i have ever seen on any telly soap...........everything is done so beautifully right from the leads entrance till the time they meet........

As time passed.....the chemistry just grew and became magical.......I have never seen any couple having that magic in them that shows on screen...........ArShi r a pure treat to watch

And of course the BG music also played a very important role........ Rabba Ve has become the anthem for every ArShian.......... every song has its own importance..........Teri Meri has literally became ArShi's song

Coming to the supporting characters.......Each character have their own style and charm.......although i agree that there r no parallel tracks involved but still they have made a mark. A special mention to NK.......His Hindi-English is awesome

Coming to the negative lead...Shyam...............And we love to hate the character.kudos to Abhas...

The track I hated most is Sheetal track......I wish it had never been there in the soap.......but because of that 1 stupid track i cant ignore the rest......

Direction by LM and AK is awesome.....and thank u 4 lions for making this amazing love saga........

And of course kudos to both Barun and Sanaya for making Arnav and Khushi come alive on our screens.....The way these two performed is wonderful and they made ArShi an eternal couple...

I have never watched any serial with this much interest from day 1 to the last day...........this series has some magic in it that just kept me hooked on to it

my rating is def 10/10

A Love Story Like No Other...
sanaakali-400-80081918 June 2012
"Such is the inconsistency of real love, that it is always awake to suspicion, however unreasonable; always requiring new assurances from the object of its interest." The above lines might summarize the bottom line of Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon (IPKKND)however words might fall short to describe the beauty and depth of the love story of Arnav Singh Raizada and Khushi Kumari Gupta. Love - hate stories have hit the Indian Film and Television industry but never before have we seen such a response to it.

Arnav Singh Raizada a.k.a ASR is your quintessential M & B anti-hero who comes across as ruthless and shrewd but is blessed with a heart of gold. No one managed to unveil the love in his heart except one woman, Khushi Kumari Gupta. Khushi is a woman with high moral values but likes to enjoy life and never lets the problems in her life get the better of her. They are as different as chalk and cheese but are in every way each other's better half.

IPKKND is the journey of discovery and unveiling's. It is Arnav and Khushi's journey to discovering true love. It is the unveiling of the ugly face of the world to Khushi and also the unveiling of a pure soul like Khushi to Arnav who had lost faith in humanity. It is the journey of a brother to save his sister from the clutches of a spineless villain alongside the unveiling of the high regard the love of his life has for him and his family. It is Arnav's discovery of him having the right to true love after his difficult life and to Khushi, it is the unveiling of the truth of her life.. The man who she reckons a beast is her handsome prince in reality.

IPKKND boasts of one of the most fabulous performance you will see, from the leads as well as the ensemble cast. Each character compliments the other and the end product is a show that will make history. Barun Sobti and Sanaya Irani play Arnav and Khushi respectively. The actors have done other shows before but this particular show has taken their career to dizzying heights. Thir chemistry is electrifying and they have raised the bar of performance up several notches. It will be a while till any other actor will gain the love and undying support that these 2 amazing actors have achieved. Their humility and down to earth attitude sets them a class apart.

Watch this show if you want to witness the pain and joy of love. Watch this show if you want the best love story portrayed on celluloid. Watch it if you believe that "True love conquers all."

IPKKND Rockz Forever!!
Arnav-Sing-Raizada10 September 2013
To be very frank,I have less interest in watching TV serials. But Iss Pyaar Ko Kaya Naam Doon? (season1) is worth watching.Though it is finished in November,2012 ,I am enjoying it again online. After 'Dill Mill Gayye '(season1) I think it is the Best Romantic TV Serials ever made.Actually its the BEST. This story portrays two people from wildly different backgrounds and beliefs.Alongside a series of ideological warfare, LOVE develops between the two. Both are too arrogant and stubborn to reveal their feelings. After a bunch of tensions ,it ended in Sweet Happy Note.It goes beyond the so called LOVE-Affair conception. A must watch for all..of course for all romantic people.<3

Great Romance Show / Aka Men Al Nazra Al Thanya (من النظره الثانيه) on MBC Bollywood.
eve-brea8 July 2015
So yeah, I've been watching this with my mom on MBC Bollywood and she loves it, I hate admitting things but I kinda like it too, its a special new type of Romance show it explores real realms of lies, arrogance, love-hate relationships that turn into real romance and how coincidence brings people together (or fate if you believe in it) its also about family relationships with a little comedy twist in every chapter/episode almost. If you like soap operas / shows, and mainly different types of romance shows, comedy shows, you're either a woman or a teenager or an adult (women and men / boys and girls / family) of 18 ~ 30 ~ 40 of age (Obviously not meant of careless 50+ year old men), you'll still love this because it has everything, great plot (while some scenes seemed a bit stupid) great actors, great direction, no fake situations or fake production.

The Arabic dubbed version on MBC Bollywood runs for 1 hour (that is less Episodes when compared to the original Hindi version) And it will be resumed after Ramadan as I am writing this during the 21th of Ramadan and the show is currently showing a repeat of the whole first season/past episodes during this month from 3 PM to 6 PM (about 3/4 Episodes per day).

Lastly I am giving it 10/10 because 7/10 is not fair, definitely not as bad as other Hindi soap operas I've seen, like.. Kasamh Se (But I still liked it) #IPKKND is believable and helpful, well.. sort of.

Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? What Name Should This Love Be Given? How should I call this love?

Regards, -Jacob Aka Yaqoob Qarooni Aka Jacob "XorM" Singh.

Abusive arshi ship
anushkatyagi-1398813 April 2019
So people are ok that the main character arnav mistreat and abuse other main character kushi . Even kushi is ok with it and loves him. Sorry but I find their relationship toxic . I would have liked kushi's character if she wasn't so dimwit with no self-esteem and self respect. She didn't even do anything when arnav doubted and questioned her character. That's something which completely breaks a women's self respect but no not for kushi . She easily forgave him . She forgave him for forcing her to marry and I can't believe people loved it. I can't believe people actually support this relationship and find arnav hot for being so rude and abusive toward kushi and her family and even his family and it's sad people support this abusive and toxic relationship like we don't have enough abusive marriages in our society. They should have made kushi's character strong to set an example for women.Women shouldn't give any attention to a man like arnav in real life. The show is good for me because of other factors the music , characters like Anjali, nandkishore, buaji , Dadi , lavanya, the colors and the set. But kushi's character is weak . She never stood upto arnav like the way I wanted. She easily gave upto him and that's the part I hated. I also didn't liked arnav's character there were close to no development in his character. The only thing that changed was he started loving kushi. This show is good because of other characters but arshi ship is a big no no for me . I can't love this abusive ship.

Must watch!
pmahabali9 April 2013
If an Indian television show is featured in an Entertainment Weekly's article, then it must be good. If it's featured as the one of the shows that should be recreated for an American network, then obviously it's a must watch! For those of you who have seen the show, you know what I mean by "Hai Devimaiyya" when I see the on screen couple (Arnav & Khushi). The chemistry they share is something a lot of Hindi television shows have been missing. The core of any soap is romance. If there is no romance then the show is a flop and does not attract a wide range of viewers. This is definitely a show that brings the romance back from a long hiatus. I just wish Star Plus did not cancel the show. Barun Sobti need to come back so we can have season 2!

One of the best!!
kiahruth12 August 2012
This serial is the most awesome i have seen in years.... from the cast to the producers, directors, writing and everyone!!... A wonderful storyline with all elements of humor, drama, emotion, anger, happiness, craziness, dance, and the most important for me at least ROMANCE... all that you'll wanna enjoy after a tiring day at work. I have been watching this show from day 1... 6th June 2011... its been more than a year now... I haven't missed a single episode since.

AMAZING CHEMISTRY between the leads... Barun Sobti & Sanaya Irani... awesome actors too. Can't take your eyes off when these two are on screen. BARUN SOBTI - " girls beware ... you'll lose your heart to him". This guy is amaziiing.... He makes you fall in love with him every time he appears on screen.

A special mention of the villain I LOVE to HATE..Shyam Manohar Jha (Abhaas Mehta is awesome in the role of Shyam).

Also a mention of NK aka Nandkishore played by Karan Goddwani... love his terrible Hindi! You won't stop laughing the moment this guy opens his mouth.

So guys go ahead and watch this wonderful show. I bet you'll get addicted to it forever.

What name shall I give for my love for this show???
raghalak5 August 2013
What to say about this wonderful show? I seriously don't know what name to give for my love for this show... Not a single day without dreaming about Arnav & Khushi... It is been about 9 months since the show ended... But my love for this show keeps growing everyday...

It is an experience to cherish... Really a magical experience...

The show has got the best original background score... So soothing... The romantic background for Arshi 'Rabbave' has become synonymous to 'Romance'... Every character has got a special tune...

Words fall short to explain this awesome romantic experience... U must feel it... It will definitely change your perception about love...

U can feel the love, the pain of Arnav Singh Raizada & Khushi Gupta Singh Raizada... Brilliant acting by Barun Sobti & Sanaya Irani...

The show is definitely not unique... But it is the presentation that stands out...

Do not miss it...

My rating would be 100000000000000000000000000000000000000/10...

The best show in the history of Indian Television
pathakbr12 October 2018
I started watching this by accident while flicking channels. Even today I watch at least one episode on hot star. An average story made immortal by two extremely good looking and talented actors. Sanaya and Barun brought Khushi and Arnav to life.

The main attraction of the show was their sizzling chemistry which was out of this world. I have never seen such chemistry between any pair ever.I know many who still keep watching this show .It never looses its charm.

A MUST watch Hindi TV drama...
Rosie_Raven21 February 2017
I don't usually watch Hindi TV drama and was never interested in watching one actually. But I came across IPKKND online and the 1st promo was interestingly enough to catch my attention so I decided to give it a try and watch. Right from the 1st episode I saw early last year, I was hooked and there was no turning back. I fell in love with Khushi because of her exuberance character who was always looking positive and her steadfast belief in her faith (Devi Maiyya) and her traditional values especially in love and marriage. Arnav, on the other hand, was just the opposite - a non-believer of marriage and love, who thought that money was everything and a ruthless young man. It was this 'opposites attract' love story that had me glued from the 1st episode to the last one.

The storyline of the series was just beautiful and one can relate to very well. There were hurdles, betrayals and misunderstandings along the way before Khushi-Arnav love story was complete and a happily- ever-after ending. The cast of the series were fabulous and they did an awesome job; every actor played their character to a T. Big applause and kudos specially to the lead actors - Sanaya Irani and Barun Sobti - who were totally brilliant and superb as Khushi and Arnav (ASR) respectively. Their on-screen chemistry were just unbelievable and realistic that I was totally in love with them; whenever they were together on screen, it was intense and explosive...one can't help but love them! Seriously! It is no wonder that IPKKND is still very popular throughout the world and is still garnering more fans for the show and especially for Sanaya-Barun jodi as Khushi-Arnav. Up till now, Arnav-Khushi is still my #1 jodi...hamesha. To me, no other TV jodi has come even close to them...not even with the current TV Hindi dramas.

IPKKND is definitely a classic and I can guarantee that one will not regret watching it especially the Arnav-Khushi love story. It will always be a 10/10 for me.
