An agonizingly slow plot that does not pay off
dsphipps1005 April 2024
This has to be one of the most glacially paced movies I have seen in a long time. Far too much time is spent showing us the pain and mourning that a group of "friends" is going through a full year after one of them is lost to a mysterious suicide. Their pain is so magnified as to seem only a few days fresh, but a full year later? That stretches credibility pretty far.

Unfortunately, the ending feels so cheap, contrived, and sudden that the earlier slow pace now seems to have been stretched out only to fill the length required to qualify as a movie instead of a TV episode.

Georgia Lock seems like she might be a decent movie actress, but unfortunately, her character in this movie is so shallow and one-dimensional that it's impossible to tell. Hopefully she'll get a chance to show better what she's capable of doing with a higher-quality script.

Put on your tinfoil hat before viewing

This film is plain weird! Strange and totally nonsensical

I have seen it written that its in "so bad it's good" genre but for me it is squarely in the 'so bad its just bad category'. Damian appears to have wanted to titillate. It's just that he is awful at it. There's no chemistry between any of the stilted actors - certainly not enough for scandalous activities that were not that scandalous just plain sad...... The performances from the whole cast are terrible, but there's something beyond terrible about Georgia Lock's consistently bewildered expression and psycho histrionics. Harks me right back to Pearl White's tragic 1914 'Perils of Pauline'.

I so wish I had not watched this film........ Enough to further reduce someone's faith in contemporary film.

"Comne on mom! Make me believe you're having an orgasm!"

Putting aside my own feelings about Elizabeth Hurley (positive!) and the morally questionable decision to choose your son to direct you in a film best described as mindless titllation material, this effort is about as amateurish and empty as you would expect. Deeply annoying characters across the board, secondary school levels of direction and acting, overabundance of meaningless facial closeups and utterly cringe dialog all combine to result in nothing other than a nepotismic vanity project.

Even the location smacks of nothing short of "look at how the idle rich live" - be jealous of your sad life.

And no, even the eternally lovely Elizabeth Hurley cannot redeem this piece of nonsense.

3*, my lowest rating given on imdb. It hurt me to not give it 4* but we didn't even seen enough of the forever vixen Elizabeth Hurley. Because not enough skin.

If you are one of those who live for IG and all of its manufactured lies and you are the kind of person who wears high heels (which I love on a woman, in the right contexts) while traipsing around cliffs, beaches and grass, this movie will be a joy for you.

Normal folks grounded in reality need not view.

Damian: Go find another job.

One of the worst movies I've ever seen.
shintei9 April 2024
I know these days that is probably thrown around a lot. It bothers me when anything that isn't 90+% on RT is considered absolute trash etc so know that this is far from that.

No joke. I don't say that often or lightly. I always try to find the good or the fun in any movie. This was so bad.

Bad dialogue. Bad acting. Bad script. Just skip it.

This feels like a soap opera in many ways. Maybe it was a money laundering scheme? I don't know but it was so incredibly bad.

The beautiful people in it are no where near enough to make up for all it was lacking. Do yourself a favor and ignore any reviews above 3 stars and just find something else to watch.

Zero thrills in a lame movie set in the caribean
JohnJohnRomualdez7 April 2024
Nothing about this film works.

The actors have to play roles that are simply ridiculous. Of course, the idea of shooting an erotic thriller in the Caribbean sounds good. The younger actors do their best, but can't save the flic. But not like this. Hurley, who always looks good, is just badly staged. The "erotic" scenes are nothing but embarrassing. But the worst thing is the script. Boring. And boring again. The payoff at the end, my goodness, where did that come from? This ist the third or forth film for Liz Hurley set on the same island with the same producers. (the others are unfunny Christmas movies) She should move on. Please...

Too bad to describe....
warrenbarry8 April 2024
...but I'll do my best. The direction and acting are like that of an early 80s made for TV movie that you might see on the Hallmark channel on a tuesday afternoon. It is absolutely terrible. The only reason you will have heard of this film is because of Liz Hurley, whose son is the director, and decided to try and cast her in an 'erotic lesbian' scene. That in itself is bizarre and creepy, and I can only assume Liz's atrocious, utterly unsexy acting is because her son was watching! Again....just very weird! If you have 90mins spare, do yourself a favour and watch paint dry; It's a a lot sexier.

Strictly terrible
Boristhemoggy14 April 2024
A group of friends fly to an island so they can commemorate the tragic death by suicide of a close friend a year before. Many truths come out during their time there.

I didn't want to just jump on the bandwagon of poor reviews so I watched it right through so I could give a fair review.

The story itself could have been ok but was overly webbed and drawn out. The dialogue/script was childish, but that matched the whole thing, childish. I felt like I was watching a very early episode of Mean Girls, or 90210.

The acting was beyond poor. There was the very odd moment when you could tell an actor was reacting to an emotion rather than direction, but only a handful in the whole film. It distinctly lacked acting ability throughout the film, but the behaviour of the cast suggested that they though they were acting really well. Delusion reigned.

The direction was almost bizarre. We'd see people look a certain way and there was no context for the look. The camera panned to look at a wall, or someone sitting down, and then back to the scene but without ever letting us know why it had panned away. People's actions, especially in group scenes just weren't normal and I think sometimes the actors struggled to know or remember what they were supposed to do. There were many horrified looks, or agonised looks that I think were meant to be sympathetic, that did not correlate at all with the plot or the scene.

The cinematography was below amateur grade. Half the time it was as if there was a hazy filter over the lens and there were many angles and shots that simply didn't make sense. Also the score was louder than the dialogue and continuous, even if the music lent nothing to the scene. It felt like it was there just for the heck of it. It was highly irritating right to the very end. The constant closeups of faces that were struggling to portray what they wanted to was painful.

The overall thrust of the film was a lot of titillation and see through clothes, a sex fest where everyone was having everyone else, and some of the most cringe worthy lesbian kissing scenes I've honestly ever seen. Liz Hurley wins the gold award for most awful kissing in the movies. And the cringeworthy moment when she pulls her panties back up after being caught kissing Natasha. It was like a pair of 16 year olds being caught in the playground. I actually gagged.

Makeup, although I expected a lot worse, overall was actually reasonable, apart from Hurley's. She honestly reminded me of some 80's porn star with her makeup, it did nothing whatsoever to put her in a good light.

The very final scene was utterly bizarre. After Mia has boarded the jet Rebecca has a final truth to admit to. I can't even talk about it really: it's not a great plot twist, it's just bizarre and unnecessary. I hate to say this but after seeing Damian's other, short film, The Boy on the Beach, I truly worry about the relationship between him and his mother.

I gave it a 2 but I think 1 was simply out of pity.

Erotic Thriller throwback
encourtknee10 April 2024
This is the kind of movie you'd see lining video shelves in the 90s that were pumped out and took the place of the slasher flick: the erotic thriller.

I had a blast watching this movie in the theater on the big screen. The dialog is super campy. There are ridiculous twists and turns abound. Plenty of eye candy; ranging from the actors, actresses, and the exotic scenery, which at times has a serene hypnotic quality to it. And within some montages I found there to be some true moments of cinematic expressionism.

My only complaint really is that there was no nudity! Like how can you make an erotic thriller with no nudity? I understand it's like a quarter century past the prime of when these types of films were pumped out. And people are trying to be more respectfully sex conscious in this modern day and age, which is cool. But there is nothing wrong w seeing and showing the human body! Especially since it's a core part of what made these films what they were.

Also I believe this was directed by Elizabeth Hurley's son. I could only imagine what directing your mother would be like as she gets cunnilingus simulated on her lol - good on Elizabeth though for being a good mum and supporting her son.

[5.6] Threat under the sun
cjonesas27 April 2024
Thanks to young actors and actresses and Elizabeth Hurley who looks better each year passing on, that's a gorgeously filmed movie with an acceptable pace, crescendo cheesy twists & turns, beautiful natural photography and a Rebecca that I liked very much.

For a directorial debut it's not bad, has promising vibes and a sequel would be definitely welcome, or better turn it into a 6-part series.

A Gripping Mystery
ameliacampbell-413258 April 2024
I don't understand these reviews... I watched the film last night with my teenage daughter, and we both loved it. Full of twists and turns, and a surprise ending we genuinely didn't see coming. My daughter has recommended it to all her friends and I'll rewatch it again. It's it a nice change from the intense hard-core thrillers that seem to be taking over streamers. This was a gentle, very sexy, mystery, with some heavy (and I think well handled) themes - I couldn't have enjoyed it more. The cast were all really good (Freddie Thorp especially steals the show) and the island is beautiful. We want a sequel!!

Edge of your seat erotic thriller
jfgibson7316 April 2024
Here is a film that achieves so much in it's runtime that it's hard to believe it's only an hour and a half long. Strictly Confidential will surely take it's place along the great mystery/thrillers by masters such as Alfred Hitchcock and David Lynch. However, neither of those greats ever helmed an ensemble piece the likes of which writer/director David Hurley has assembled. He guides every actor and actress to an award-worthy performance, with the standouts being an intense Laura McQueen and a magnetic Llyrio Boateng as the enigmatic Sebastian. Does he know more than he is telling us? You will be guessing right up to the final shot. But even those stellar craftsmen must defer to the sparkling champagne fizz of the centerpiece: Liz Hurley as Lily. The pain of her loss--and the choices it leads her to make--is so palpable, ever viewer's heart will ache as they follow her journey. Clearly, the director earned everyone's trust and led a film shoot with no drama or disharmony. Special credit must go to 2nd 2nd assistant director (two 2nds--not an error) Danielle Browne. No doubt her contributions helped carry the production to that upper echelon that so few films reach. If you are tired of the repetitive, uninspired slop that floods the streaming services today, seek out Strictly Confidential. You will be in for a ride that will restore your faith in the power of film!

Fun, stylish mystery. Loved!
I stumbled across this film by accident and I'm truly glad I did - wow! A fun, snappy, sexy drama/thriller. The movie follows Georgia Lock playing a haunted young girl on a quest to unravel the mystery surrounding her best friend's suicide. It's visually exquisite, and the plot kept me guessing right until the end, with a twist I truly didn't see coming. It's snappy and never slows down, and made me want to book a trip to the Caribbean right now. Perhaps it won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I took it for what it was- a smaller budgeted indie with a unique voice and great performances. Overall- recommended!

Really good, sexy, mystery thriller
lne-7660516 April 2024
I loved watching this mystery unfold and was totally hooked from the opening sequence. It's set in the Caribbean and is lush and exotic. The film follows a young woman who can't accept that her best friend killed herself, and desperately tries to find out the truth- uncovering devastating secrets in the process. Overall, I loved it. Dreamy location, really good cast and lots of twists and turns. I hadn't seen the lead actress Georgia Lock in anything before but will be keeping an eye out for her in the future as I thought she was seriously great. I don't understand the hate this indie movie is getting, or why it's being reviewed like it's an Oscar candidate?! Lots of these reviews are from people who don't appear to have watched the movie, only read about it. I found the film sharp, slick and sexy. It's probably more geared towards women, but I watched it with my boyfriend, who liked it, despite rarely letting me force him to watch anything too 'girly'. Overall, I thought it was a really good, sexy, mystery thriller. I've recommended it to my girlfriends and I'll probably watch it again soon.
