Five people representing the groups that are most affected by the climate crisis travel from different countries to meet with Pope Francis in the Vatican and share their personal stories with him.

The Letter tells the incredible story of the Laudato Si' encyclical letter by Pope Francis, through the eyes from frontline leaders battling the ecological crisis across continents. A powerful - and surprising - dialogue with the Pope in the Vatican brings new hope for our common home.

The film features Pope Francis and environmental champions from around the world, from different faiths and worldviews. Each represents an unheard voice in conversations on the planetary crisis: the voices of the Indigenous, the young, the poor, and wildlife. Through the film, we follow their journeys from the Amazon, India, Senegal, and Hawai'i to the Vatican. They meet Pope Francis, who shares his vision in beautifully human interactions, and then have a powerful experience in the ancient city of Assisi, birthplace of St Francis and the Laudato Si' encyclical. Dealing with an unexpected surprise in Assisi, they end up finding new hope for our planet in each other.

"The Letter" is a captivating documentary that has been in the making for over four years. It chronicles the journeys of five individuals, each representing marginalized groups often overlooked in international environmental discussions. Their destination is Rome, where they aim to meet with the Pope and engage in a crucial dialogue regarding Laudato Si'-a powerful encyclical addressing the pressing threats of climate change and rapid biodiversity loss on a global scale. Among the inspiring individuals featured in the film are Arouna Kandé, a climate refugee from Senegal; Cacique Dadá, an environmental defender and leader of the Maró Indigenous territory in the Brazilian Amazon; Ridhima Pandey, a passionate youth climate activist from India; and Greg Asner and Robin Martin, dedicated biologists studying the intricate ecosystems of coral reefs in Hawaii. The documentary offers exclusive footage of their encounter with Pope Francis, whose profound words act as a spiritual compass. These words are interwoven with personal narratives and scientific discoveries throughout the film, creating a compelling narrative. Following their meeting with the Pope, the group embarks on a transformed journey to Assisi, the birthplace of St. Francis. It is here that they find inspiration from the renowned "Canticle of the Creatures," which influenced the Pope's encyclical and provides a symbolic link between their mission and the legacy of St. Francis.
