- Six months after having provoked his dismissal from the CBI by Luthor Wainwright, Patrick is pulling cons in Las Vegas. Dodging old victim Oscar's goons, Patrick lands in bed drunk with Lorelei Martins. In the morning, she discloses being an accomplice of Red John, who summons Patrick to join his organization but demands as proof of loyalty Lisbon's head. Only Rigsby helps them stage such murder, but Red John still isn't fooled. FBI agent Susan Darcy also realizes it's fake, but draws the wrong conclusions and thus compromises Patrick's elaborate trap.—KGF Vissers
- Patrick Jane is flirting with the waitress Lorelei Martins in Vegas, six months after being fired from the CBI. Out of the blue, he is attacked by a man that he lured with his fake psychic ability and is beaten up and arrested by the police. But soon he is released and learns that Lorelei has paid his bail. She goes to his hotel room and they have one night stand. On the next morning, she tells that his bail and their night together was a gift from Red John that was offering his friendship to Patrick. Then he meets Lisbon in a church and explains that he faked his breakdown in CBI to lure Red John. He also gives a cellphone to Lisbon and vanishes. Then Lorelei says to Patrick that Red John would give money and a new identity to him provided he brings Lisbon's body to an encounter.
