Not quite

This story is based on several very common plot devices. One woman is pressed into impersonating her friend in a professional capacity which is the hanging secret. Family business is struggling which the grandson is trying to carry on. The two leads spend time together, in this case with Kate learning about chocolate in Brussels. Meanwhile she spurs Mathias to do some things to help the business. The story's conflict is very predictable and the ending is over the top.

I didn't see any chemistry between Jaclyn Hales and Zane Stephens. I often have trouble finding chemistry in hanging secret movies because at least one of the leads can't be totally honest. In this case, I think it is more than that. It just didn't feel like they were connecting. The Almost Kiss scene is clumsy and it felt like the actors were relieved to have it fail. I also wasn't impressed with the overall acting or the dialogue. The latter was frequently mundane. They too factors combined to make it seemed forced or unnatural.

There were some nice shots of Brussels which reminded me of being there. As expected with GAF, the story is very family friendly.

So Boring....
jeepgirl2214 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
You would think that a movie about chocolate and Christmas couldn't miss, but this one does. How do you mess up chocolate and Christmas?? You make it super boring. First, the old premise of a woman pretending to be someone else has been done, done and redone. You know she will be found out and you know her love interest will be unhappy about it. Same old formula we've seen over and over again. Snooze.... Second, the main character and her best friend looked so much alike that I had hard time at the beginning telling the difference between them. I thought they were twins at first! Third the two main characters are just meh. They have no spark, no chemistry. Frankly, I didn't care whether they got together or not. I made it about halfway through this movie before cutting it off. It was so boring that it seemed to just drag. At the halfway point I felt like I should be close to the end because it felt like I had literally been watching it forever. I may go back and watch the end. I may not. I love GAC Family but this movie is definitely not up to standards.

I love GAF

But this one does not really work for me

I guess for me I needed more actual chocolate making, this movie is all about dialogue and how tasty chocolate is. No actual production of chocolate outside of dialogue

I very much appreciated how clean the movie is. I appreciated no over the top drama.

The actors were ok, I doubt either of them knew anything about actual belgian chocolate making. At around 55 min into the movie they actually do cook up somehing, for me its too little too late.

I believe my wife would like this more than me.

I can ay that I generally enjoy GAF more than this one.

Christmas In Belgium!
swking-0730012 November 2023
Unlike others, I really liked this movie. I have spent Christmas in Brussels for work and this movie definitely captured the mood and the feel of Belgium at Christmas. The story may be a little light, the acting was ok, but overall I enjoyed this movie quite a bit.

The mood of the movie gave you the feel of being awkward, but then again Kate, Jaclyn Hales, is an imposter, so awkward is in keeping with the story line.

I'm all for these types of movies: Good story, good actors, great location and Christmas in 3urope. I hope Great American Family continues to bring us more movies like this one.

Poorly done in every regard

Okay..a movie about chocolate and Brussels...this combination should make for a great movie. But...the people making this movie managed to find multiple ways to mess it up. Poor pacing. Ridiculous cooking lesson scene near the beginning. Mediocre acting. And so it goes. Laughably bad. One silly example: the lead guy was reluctant to let lead actress into the cooking lesson because class was already starting but, well she was the only one in the class! And it just goes downhill from there. Oh I gave it two stars instead of one due solely to the unintended comedic relief. Another horrible GAC/GAG production.

Great American Family.... Love you guys! Honestly!

But what was this? The strange close-ups, the lighting, the sound quality.... This was very difficult and quite frankly impossible to get through.

We turned it off after 45 minutes. And the bacon/gravel voice was just so bad.

Sorry guys. This was a miss. Maybe we will give it another shot during the holiday season but this just came across as a low quality, almost high-school type production.

We hope this is not a sign of things to come. We are looking forward so much to Great American Christmas year 3 but they must be better than this.

This was just not an enjoyable movie.

Yup, it's as bad as everyone else is saying

Well for starters, the movie is boring and it drags. The main characters have no spark or chemistry. The male lead is especially stale. I found myself wondering why he was casted because I did not find him interesting in the least bit. I managed to make it to the over half way mark and I had yet to see him show any interest in the female lead in any capacity. The writing is lackluster and there is a lot lost in the execution of bringing the story to life. I love clean movies. I subscribe to GAF specifically for that reason and there are plenty other movies that I like on GAF but just not this one. Complete fail on all fronts.

A high calorie lesson in food and relationships

Warning: Spoilers
While not an amazing plot by any means, it was an easy watch, lighthearted and family centric. The acting was good and you could get behind the challenge that Matthias faced with his shop and the chocolate making imposter. I can also appreciate the challenge and responsibility of inheriting an established family business. Having spent many Christmases in Europe, it definitely brought out the nostalgia factor and had a honest Christmas feel, which was nice. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by the film. Like my momma always says, life is like a box of chocolates...you never know what your gonna get!

Really Dumb
lindy-0079517 October 2023
Particularly GAKKY. No surprise coming from GAK. A woman goes to Brussels to learn about chocolate making impersonating her friend. She has minimal skills in the field. The actress portraying her is just awful. She is very fake. The man playing Matthias, the Belgium chocolatier is also awful. Can we please hire someone from Belgium with an actual accent???? Someone with a bit more emotion??? There is NO chemistry between the main actors. None at all. Don't waste 2 hours watching. Or rather, go watch the version from Hallmark with Lacey Chabert and Will Kemp which is a whole lot more interesting and romantic!!!

Seriously find something else, this blew. If this is what Great American Family is putting out then it's not a very good network. Was this a Christmas movie? I couldn't tell. It was a snooze fest. Who can come up with the required number of characters to talk about this movie??? It's bad, it's bad, it's bad, just awful, very awful, just not good. How many characters do I have left 217! Ok. So so boring, who are those people anyway? Was it filmed in LA in the back of a theater? Luckily, it's almost Christmas so Hallmark will show them how Christmas movies are done. Someone should for sure. Bye!
