No surprise.

Overall, the episode was fair. A bit more melodrama than fresh drama, but still watchable. Erin's possible run for DA promises to be interesting.

What's not surprising are at least two anti-firearm references. When Danny interviews a robbery victim who's been shot, the victim laments how her freshly-minted carry permit didn't do her any good, thus not-so-subtly "proving" that private citizens just couldn't possibly ever effectively take their own defense into their own hands. Never mind that the victim attempted to draw her gun while her attacker already had a gun aimed at her, which no self-defense advice I've ever heard would recommend for anyone so threatened, no matter their degree of proficiency-at-arms.

Second, when Jamie is debriefing Off. Cooper after he and his partner act to stop an armed robbery, Cooper stresses the point that the armed perp was "armed with an AR-15", as if that takes the situation into another galaxy. So, the scriptwriters create two fictions; first, that two good cops, responding with good tactics, just couldn't possibly take down a bad guy armed with a rifle. Nonsense. It does happen when good cops have had the benefit of good training. Second, yet another entry into the boiling cauldron of "the evil AR-15, it's only used by bad guys". Over 13 seasons of watching this show, many episodes show NYPD members using AR-15s in the act of enforcing justice. For the many private citizens who undertake the proficiency of operation of their semi-auto AR-15s, it can be an effective response to a deadly threat, sometimes not even needing to be fired if the threat clears off before shooting becomes necessary.

The scriptwriters have bolstered up their position with their future engagements, and their status in their community, since the vast majority of the entertainment industry is anti-liberty as regards this issue.
