Retro, starring Suriya and Pooja Hegde in the lead roles, has wrapped up its four-day extended opening weekend. After a strong start, the film couldn’t maintain momentum, but it has managed to cross the 70 crore mark. Considering the start, the outcome is a bit underwhelming, and a much better collection was expected. The movie by Priyadarshan had become a blockbuster success and also catapulted Kv Anand into fame. Actor Mohanlal has recently wrapped up shooting for his upcoming Odiyan. The film, which has Mohanlal playing the titular role of Odiyan Manikkan, marks the directorial debut of ad film maker Va Shrikumar Menon and also stars Manju Warrier in as the female lead. The actor also has Kayamkumal Kochinni with Rosshan Andrews and Neerali with Ajoy Andrews. With Odiyan and Neerali lined up for release in quick succession this year, Mohanlal has also inked the deal to star in a Ranjith directorial titled as Bilathi Katha. Suriya has previously collaborated with director Kv Anand in films like Ayan and Maattrraan. It was earlier rumoured that Priya Prakash Varrier who shot to fame with her wink in Oru Adaar Love was roped in to play Suriya’s pair. The makers later clarified that the news was not true. Kv Anand posted from his official Twitter account the film’s core team. Harris Jayaraj who has composed for the director’s previous films will also be a part of this project as well. Meanwhile, Suriya is busy with his upcoming film Ngk, which is being directed by Selvaraghavan. In this film, Suriya is sharing screen space with Sai Pallavi and Rakul Preet Singh. Yuvan Shankar Raja is the music composer for Ngk while Sivakumar Vijayan is the cinematographer. This gangster drama is bankrolled by Sr Prakashbabu and Sr Prabhu under their banner Dream Warrior Pictures. Reports say that Ngk is being planned as a Deepavali release this year and is likely to clash with Vijay 62, which is being directed by Ar Murugadoss.

Chennai, July 7: Suriya Sivakumar-starrer Tamil action-drama "Singam 2", which released worldwide July 5, has got a good opening. It collected Rs.9.25 crore on the release day in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka despite getting criticism for being too lengthy.

"Reportedly made on a budget of Rs.45 crore, 'Singam 2' collected a total of Rs.9.25 crore on the day of release from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka," trade analyst Trinath told Ians.

The critics said Hari Gopalakrishnan's directorial venture as over commercial and extremely lengthy, but it seems that the viewers are enjoying the film.

The success of "Singam 2" comes as a respite for Suriya after his last two releases - "7am Arivu" and "Maattrraan" failed.

The last time we saw Kollywood's leading action star, Suriya, he was playing kung fu fighting conjoined twins in K.V. Anand's medical action thriller, Maattrraan. Chennai, Oct 15: Following mixed response from audiences and critics, the makers of Suriya-starrer Tamil action-thriller "Maattrraan" have cut it short to impress a larger segment of moviegoers.

"The film is cut by about three minutes in the first half, while the second half has been reduced by about 22 minutes," a source in the industry told Ians.

"Mattrraan", directed by K.V. Anand, released Oct 12 worldwide in about 1,400 screens. The film was originally 2 hours and 35 minutes long.

Chennai, Oct 4: Director K.V. Anand's Tamil action thriller "Maattrraan", which features actor Suriya in the role of conjoined twins, has been passed by the Central Board of Film Certification (Cbfc) with a U-certificate.

The film will hit the screens worldwide Oct 12 in over 1,400 theatres.

"Maattrraan" will be released in Telugu too and the 37-year-old actor has for the first time dubbed in Telugu for the film along with his younger brother Karthi.

Chennai, Oct 3: Cinematographer-turned-filmmaker K.V. Anand will not remake his upcoming Tamil film "Maattrraan" in any other language. He says completing the film was a Herculean task and he doesn't want to repeat it.

"We spent a lot of time making the film once and the effort that has gone into the making can't be repeated. I don't have any plans to remake the film," Anand told Ians.

Chennai, Sep 30: Southern actor Karthi, who has dubbed for his brother Suriya for the first time in the Telugu-dubbed version of 'Maattrraan', wished he was born conjoined with his brother after watching the film, director K.V. Anand said.

"Karthi was so touched by the film that he wished he was born as conjoined twin to his brother Suriya," Anand said here at an event.

"'Maattrraan' is a very emotional film.

Chennai, Sep 30: Tamil film writers Suresh and Balakrishnan, popularly known by their pen name 'Subha', who have written successful films such as 'Kana Kandaen' 'Ayan' and 'Ko', said their upcoming Suriya-starrer film 'Maattrraan' will also address a social issue.

"Although our film (Maattrraan) is the story about conjoined twins, we've not deviated from addressing a social issue like we did in our last three films," Subha said.

Chennai, Sep 29: Actors, Karthi and Suriya are yet to be seen on the big screen together, but the brothers will now be heard in the film "Brothers", the dubbed Telugu version of Tamil movie "Maattrraan".

Suriya plays conjoined twins in the film and his younger brother Karthi dubbed for one of the twins in its Telugu dubbed version, while Suriya dubbed for the other.
