The Movie That Never Took Off...
paul_haakonsen2 July 2020
I hadn't heard about this 2011 Chinese movie titled "The Killer Who Never Kills" (aka "Sha shou Ouyang Penzai") from writer Giddens Ko and directors Fung-Bok Lee and Chi-Man Wan.

But I was given the chance to sit down and watch it in 2020. Happened to come across the movie by random luck. And my fascination with Asian cinema made me pick up the movie and give it a watch, of course.

I saw that Eric Tsang was on the cast list, so that definitely caught my attention and I must admit that it made me have some hopes for the movie.

However, it turned out that "The Killer Who Never Kills" was a swing and a miss. The storyline just never really caught on with me, and I must admit that while I made it through the entire movie, I wasn't particularly entertained by what I saw. And it didn't really help much that the character gallery in the movie was uninteresting and rather mundane.

It should be said that the cast were good, lots of new and unfamiliar faces among the Chinese cast here for me. And that is a good thing, because I enjoy watching new actors and actresses on the screen. Just a shame that they virtually had nothing to work with in terms of script and storyline.

This was by no means a bright moment in Chinese cinema, and I am rating it a mere three out of ten stars.
