Certification

Sex & Nudity

  • It is a complete action packed movie. No sex or nudity shown in this movie. Not even a kiss. Few sexual references mentioned in this movie. A woman's panties briefly shown in one scene. Another woman wears a dress that reveals mild cleavage.
  • No Nudity or Sex, but the middle finger sign at the beginning of the movie twice, also a sex sign at the movie end.

Violence & Gore

  • Lots of monster action and destruction.
  • A man comes across his dead comrades after following a trail of blood. One is torn in half, blood visible, and another has a large bite taken out of him. A few severed limbs are strewn about. The shot is very, very brief but gory for a PG-13 film.
  • A mutated wolf takes out several soldiers with sight of them being thrown through the air, chomped down on and bitten in half. Most of the action cuts away before anything graphic is seen, though some blood is visible on guns and the environment after.
  • A space station is shown in disarray with blood splattered across its walls. A severed hand floats across the frame and a dead man is seen with blood coming out of his eye socket.
  • A giant gorilla eats a woman, swallowing her whole. Which some people can find disturbing
  • A giant gorilla, a giant wolf and a giant crocodile ravage a city and cause a lot of destruction. They kill numerous soldiers through stepping on them, biting them, tossing them through the air, crushing them with masonry and other thrown items and by destroying their vehicles.
  • A gorilla wreaks havoc on an aeroplane and brutally takes down several men, whom are shooting at him. He tosses a final man across the plane, who is one of only three to survive the encounter.
  • A man has a brief fight which results in him knocking out one man with a punch and slowly chocking another into unconsciousness with a choke-hold.
  • A man is crushed by falling masonry; there is a large blood spurt that stains a glass window. This cuts away quickly, to another character's disturbed expression, though.
  • A tall building collapses into the ground.

Profanity

  • Strong language, especially for a PG-13 movie. George, the gorilla, performs crude hand gestures (middle finger) twice as jokes. And includes uses of "ass", "bitch", "bullshit," "go to hell," "sh**", "damn", "asshole", "Goddamn", "bastard", and an incomplete "mother******".
  • "Jesus" used as exclamation more than once.
  • 19 uses of shit 1 paired with bull
  • George makes a middle finger gestue 3 times during jokes.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The canisters in the film may count as drugs for some

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The giant animals can be frightening, especially when they are enraged. The lead gorilla is usually a peaceful character, so his violent moments are all the more impactful.
  • The brief flashes of gore and a real sense of danger contrast with the lighter moments to create some intense moments.
  • The violence is quite strong, with blood and gore in some scenes.
  • A woman burns to death at the beginning. Can be upsetting for some younger viewers.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • A gorilla gestures sex with his hands

Violence & Gore

  • A giant crocodile grabs onto a giant wolf's neck with its jaws and eats its head off.
  • A giant gorilla leaps into the air and skewers a crocodile in the head with a large metal pole. It roars and screeches in pain before dying after the pole is shoved in even further. This is quite disturbing.
  • A giant crocodile throws a giant gorilla with its tail cub into a metal pole which spears him through the chest. He later appears to die, but this isn't the case, as it's revealed that he's just fine and was only joking.
  • A man is shot through the stomach. He appears to be wounded seriously, but this isn't the case and he resumes the action shortly, seemingly unaffected by the bullet.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • In the climatic battle of Chicago, there's a plot twist that involves Claire revealing that an antidote that Davis and Kate are planning to use on the giant mutated animals only eliminates the enhanced aggressiveness of them rather than returning them to their normal size, which clearly indicates that the effects and mutations that were all caused by the pathogen are actually irreversible. This can be somewhat unexpected for some.
  • At the end of the movie, George pretends to be dead as a joke.
