Had potential, but no chemistry and annoying characters.

Warning: Spoilers
This started out okay. The lead actress is attractive and talented, but her character was flawed.

She was a lazy mother, whose child was left to raise himself, because it was important that he learn to be "independent". Yet her mantra was be there to"support your family".

She professed one thing and did the opposite. Hypocrisy. The only reason she made the right decision at the end and went to her son's play was because she had to, after she overheard that she wasn't going to get a promotion. Otherwise " supporting your family" wasn't going to happen.

The two leads had absolutely no chemistry whatsoever.

The male lead was boring and so annoying! The script had him as a neurotic over protective father. He never changed.

Dull as dishwater.

The flamboyant drama teacher was way over the top for the first half of the movie.

He was better at the end.

The kids were okay.

The boy was a good actor.

The principal was good, also. A funny example of a junior high school principal.

Where is romance?
boriskaiser12 February 2023
It seems that Reel One Entertainment is fully on single dad train. This one has widower single dad like so many Hallmark TV movies, and there is divorced single mom, too. Like so many other ROE TV movies, this one sadly suffers from various technical issues, too. There is constant background music for at least 2/3 of the movie and its loudness vary from barely tolerable to loud so you can't barely hear dialogue. It just drives you crazy. Location is obviously fake Denver - it was shot somewhere in BC, Canada, and it looks like to me Kelowna like so many other times, and to hide it, they overused stock Denver footage.

Cast was average. I would say A. O'Brien was actually good, but she couldn't save this train wreck. A. Zachar was unconvincing. Both kids were all right. The rest of the cast had stereotipical plays: fake British blonde chick, feminized male drama teacher, bad white old capitalist, black "smarter than you look" female principal, married lesbian, tough black guy... Somebody had some list and they just checked it for its sake.

The main problem of this movie is that it doesn't have any direction. I checked director, and look, she directed "A Love to Remember", another train wreck, and "A Bridesmaid in Love" (this one is at least average). Let me explain.

It starts as mediocre high school comedy which wouldn't be a problem but it was shot in you know what times so in the limited shoting time, school was a ghost town. Literally nobody. Only in the late Act II we see few other kids who are in the play, and finally in the very end of Act III there is actually life in school - parents and teachers at theater play which btw was terrible as is every other modern reinterpretation of Romeo and Juliet. At least 2/3 of the movie is light hearted comedy then finally there is some romance but it quickly evaporate into drama, and movie finish as lame comedy just how it started. In short, movie doesn't know what is it.

And as every other ROE TV movie, trailer shows the whole movie so save your valuable time.

No chemistry. Cardboard characters.

Warning: Spoilers
The two main actors are alright, but their characters aren't really believable. They have no chemistry, either. The very over-the-top gay character is annoying. The principal is ridiculous. The topper was the blatant chicken advertisement built into the plot in a stilted manner. The single-parents pitched against each other plot line is overused. Overworked, divorced mom. Hard pressed to do it all widowed dad. It's just cliche. It would work if the parents and kids were more fleshed out, but writing seems to be really lacking. You get the sense that the actors aren't being given enough to work with, so they either resort to stereotypes or awkwardly pausing between lines as if they aren't sure where to go in the scene.

The chicken ad was an all-time low
EPMD577 July 2023
This movie was awful. The supporting characters were annoying. They went for comedy with the over the top drama teacher and failed miserably. The work assistant seemed like she had a fake accent. Every line sounded awkward because of it.

The lead characters were slightly better, but they still spent too much of the movie interacting like snarky coworkers rather than potential romantic partners. Their kids had the most genuine interactions in the movie, so I give them credit for that.

The worst part of the movie, though, was the outstandingly obvious and insultingly out of place advertisment for chicken. The kid said the brand name, showed the package of the chicken, then put it on the table for the camera to zoom in on it. Then the four lead characters gathered around to sit and eat the chicken, while one of them described how convenient, high-quality, and healthy it was. Product placement can be acceptable, but they wrote an entire scene around this garbage. Brutal.

This is probably the WORST ROMCOM I'VE SEEN
shnookie0426 February 2024
The PLOT is INSANE! The BULLDOG OVERLY DRAMATIC principal with the AGGRESSIVE UNDERBITE IS one of the most horrific actresses I've EVER SEEN! She'd last a Day with her attitude in a REAL school. She's Rude & insulting also demeaning . Having parents do their kids punishment is ridiculous and would never happen. The Drama Teacher ALSO WAY OVER ACTING THE whole "Gay Drama Teacher" Schtick. I can't even finish watching this one. Absolutely terrible. Oh and the Lead male & Female ALSO HORRIBLE actors. Just awful! How do these films even get made?

I watch a Lot of Rom coms and this is by far the worst one I've seen on UP OR Hallmark Channel.
