I enjoyed it.
zangi109012 December 2022
I binged watched this over the weekend and I enjoyed it.

It's not a bad drama but unlike some of the reviewers here some gave it 10/10 some gave it 1/10 I would say its above average about 6 or 7/10.

Considering the main character was a informer for the police you would expect when he would meet his police handler it would be in a secret place rather than an open area having tea together where anyone could see them. Also there would only be one police handler which would be secretive but in this case there was several.. It's small details like this which I felt let the drama down, but overall I would recommend it and I'm looking forward to series 2.

Randeep Hooda you have my heart!
dahibawkarmanasi15 December 2022
Another good one by Netflix. It initially starts slow but story picks up midway. The back and forth moving screenplay perfectly unfolds the story and establishes characters, their morality and motives. I watched entire series in Punjabi and it is best seen that way rather than dubbed Hindi version. After a very long time watched a very well written webseries. All performances are top notch and Randeep Hooda my god! What a powerful performer. He portrays immense emotions through even simple actions like cleaning floor and tying turban. He is a gem of an actor and Netflix has capitalized very well on it. Can't wait for next season.

Close to the level of Sacred Games
ankit-imsnoida11 December 2022
After a long time, Netflix has come with a series which is close to the level of Sacred Games. Barring last two episodes which I couldn't fully digest (which failed to bring everything well together).. the series is brilliantly made.

What's good?

The screenplay is quite tightly written and keeps you hooked throughout. Acting overall is superb. Randeep Hooda especially does an amazing job and gives a fantastic performance. Casting has been great and the supporting actors also play their roles quite effectively. I really enjoyed some plot twists and they have me goosebumps.

Some scenes are so gruesome and shot very well. Amazed with the cinematography.

What could have been better?

Ending was okay but I couldn't digest it properly. They over did certain things. Could have kept it simple as there was no need for shock value towards the end.

CAT is Randeep Hooda's triumph 🔥💯
kanhaiya-6918814 December 2022
Randeep Hooda defines the very essence of committing to the role and the art of acting. He deserves the title Mr Perfectionist because of his impeccable performances, be it Sarabjit or now CAT. I am not just throwing this title around without giving it a proper thought, so please read my arguments below. You know a masterpiece has been delivered when an actor loses his identity and transforms to the extent that the actor is no longer recognisable by his real identity during the course of the series. This is exactly what Randeep Hooda has been able to accomplish as Gurnam Singh. Another reason to support my argument is that his appearance and behaviour have been spot on, and moreover, his Punjabi has been flawless. He looks and sounds more Punjabi than a lot of Punjabis I know. His accent does not sound phoney like Aamir's in Laal Singh Chaddha, which I believe was one reason people were unhappy with Aamir. How could Aamir miss such a crucial detail for his character when he had so many years to prepare? Randeep, on the other hand, went into so much detail in preparing for the role without being called Mr perfectionist or making a huge fuss about it. Doesn't Randeep deserve the title of Mr Perfectionist, not only because of his brilliant performance in CAT but because he has been consistently mesmerising with his acting genius?

One of the best from Netflix this year!
saty-6352510 December 2022
One of the most underrated actor - Randeep Hooda at its best. Binged watched every episode in 24hrs.every actor played their part well. Even the young Gurnam showed class. All the side acts and stories are well knitted into the theme of this thriller. The Punjab setting, politicians, drugs, singers, villages seems real and up to date. Once you hear the emotional stories of the antagonists you may empathize with them. That's how powerful the script, story line, editing and acting is in CAT. However the star of this series is Randeep Hooda who performed effortlessly and in the skin of the character of Gurnam. Must watch!

RANDEEP HOODA 🔥🔥🔥
nikss-7253710 December 2022
A reuctant spy being used as a pawn by people more powerful and ambitious than him is a concept that is not new to cinema. CAT, the new Netflix show, takes this age-old formula and yet, manages to make it fresh and gripping through an eight-episode arc. The show can be described as Netflix's first Punjabi original (it is almost bilingual with the dialogue shuffling between Punjabi and Hindi). And that is not the only thing novel about the series, which uses Randeep's talents fabulously. Randeep is in top form as Gurnaam, the man who enters the show as a reluctant family man and by the end, goes through a Walter White-like transformation into a hardened, scheming killing machine. But the real star of the show is veteran Punjabi actor Suvinder Vicky, who plays Gurnaam's handler, the scheming cop who only has his own interests at heart. His dynamic role gives the actor scope and he brings out a delicious performance, showcasing ambition, jealousy, and lust for power quite effortlessly. Former Miss India Hasleen Kaur's transformation into a de-glam lower middle-class cop deserves mention. It is bold of an actor coming from her background to opt for a role like this and then takes talent to pull it off like she does.

What a series. Love it.
Kiratm5377210 December 2022
Totally worth watching. I am not sure what this the other person reviews want to watch. Who is saying it was poor or bla bla bla. I think you likes rohit shetty movies, fake scenes and fllipping vehicles. Its a serious acting, go and watch another series man if you are not good enough to understand what a good acting is. I was totally lost in the whole series not even got up once. Completed, all episodes in one go and did not realize when one episode is finished and second started. Randeep was as good i did not want it to finish. Brilliant actor he is and most of other characters played are very well as well. CAT is wonderfull. Will be waiting for 2nd season eagerly. Randeep never disappoints his viewers. Totally worth watching.

FANTASTIC

In The Busy World We Live, It's Quite Rare For Someone To Finish A Show In One Go, But There Are Exceptions Like Balwinder Singh Janjua's "CAT"... It Boldly Sheds Light On The Menace Of Drugs, Terrorism, Gun Culture Without Trying To Be Politically Correct... Randeep Hooda Has Carried The Whole Season On His Shoulders... His Performance, Look, Accent Are Brilliant... He Deserves More Such Good Roles In The Future... Suvinder Vicky Is A Discovery... His Complex Character Will Force You To Think Till The Last Minute... Hasleen Kaur, Pramod Pathak & Other Supporting Actors Have Also Given Their Best.

Just the beginning of the storm
Biswas_10 December 2022
CAT is about a spy named Gurnam Singh aka Gary who has been assisting the police since his teenage days in spying terrorist gangs and getting them caught. Years later, the political situation gets ths same police to once again rope in Gurnam to fulfill an objective .

What starts off as a mere mission for Gurnam and the policeman Sehtab soon transitions into what would eventually Gurnam would discover as "extremely dirty ". Meaning, things get really dirty as the series progresses with many shocking revelations about Gurnam's troubled past are made towards the end that pave the way for S2.

The screenplay is fast and engaging. I would say ..just like the recent Netflix series Khakee, CAT too is not very detailed about the problems existing in Punjab in year 2006 but still it's the engaging screenplay and terrific performances that hold your attention right till the end. It highlights the male chauvinism that exists in Punjab where a powerful man would literally get hurt on his ego if a woman would dare slap him and would then punish the woman in a very bad way. The pace of this series never slackens as it moves back and forth between Gurnam's past and present.

Viewers are kept in suspense as to who exactly killed Gurnam 's parents in the past.

While one twist regd Sehtab is predictable, the other one, regarding the gangster Baljit is quite unpredictable.

Randeep Hooda as Gurnam is terrific! He was born to play this role and in scenes where he is desperate about his brother Sunny, he shines. You can see the helplessness in his eyes as well in those scenes. Others like Sehtab , Chandan Kumar (his character was a bit funny), Madam Aulukh , Babita were all good.

Some really unnecessary characters are there like one singer Rocky who has the most unnecessary forced twist. After the twist his character literally disappears. That's bad right! Even Madam Aulukh's daughter is given some unnecessary screen space who has absolutely nothing to do in this series. Even that prostitute girl has no importance in this series and is unnecessarily there to eat up time.

Baljit's character too is a bit weirdly written. At the beginning he's shown as a confident man but in present he's shown as timid as a goat. Is there a twist here as well? How did his character trait change ?

All these things are going into S2 which is imminent. I am super excited to see what happens next as ..maybe the series will shift to Canada. The last scene of this series will excite you even further. Overall, a good binge watch worthy series.

Promised a Lot but Under delivered !!!!
binukgb10 January 2023
The series albeit a bit slow, promised a lot in the 1st 3-4 episodes. But as it progressed it fell by the wayside due to lack of pace in narration and events that would hold Audience Attention and interest.

It was pretty much a Predictable, One Dimensional affair which came to a Tame End or a Tame Continuation as Season 2 has been planned to take the story forward.

Really disappointing to see such a fine actor in Randeep Hooda wasted so badly as he was the only Actor who was worth watching in Cat. The rest of the Cast struggled to make an impact of any significance or substance.

Still worth a Dekho only for Randeep Hooda !!!!

Brilliant, finally something of the same pedigree as Sacred Games Season 1
the_omen198910 December 2022
This is the best web series coming out of India after Sacred Games' first season. It's brilliant.

Watched the first 2 episodes, and it grips you. Masterfully acted by Hooda and the rest of the cast.

A rare gem.

The script is tight, well researched and hits all the marks and there's no fat on the meat. It's lean and powerful.

The direction is taut, focussed and strong.

It touches various issues that are plaging the state of Punjab, and these are competently shown.

I hope it remains this focussed for its entirety.

It's been a while since a web series has held my interest. Sheer quality.

Highly recommended.

CAT Not Smart Enough, Nor strong Enough
smithbill13 December 2022
Ok here's my take on CAT. I watched it the first day it came out and while there were 0 reviews in imdb.

CAT would have been a great story to watch if it was made in the early 2000s. But the show is based on current generation and it definetly lacks the punch in action and thriller part.

It is not a smart show, not even as close to Udta punjab although it does feels like you are close to watching it.

If they really want to succeed and be a hit series, the main actor has to have more balls and some good action sequence to keep the viewers addicted.

I loved some of the other characters and their acting but the lead needs to be fearless and hostile to take on drug thugs and corrupt politicians.

The intruder
sameerlodaya11 December 2022
Sameer lodaya

The series is about the intruder who has been used to complete missions

Somewhere in Punjab the series is been nicely filmed on drugs ...the series goes in slow pace for 8 episodes where revenge , family , secret missions, drug dealings have been shown

Randeep as the lead has underplayed his character he is a versatile actor recognised for his outstanding performances but here he played very normal the makers did not make ultimate use of him..

The climax has been kept open for the next season which is very disappointing as no one remembers or is interested for following seasons where your content is not that unique

A normal series on drugs in Punjab.

The best way of story telling 👍👍
tushantchhikara10 December 2022
Randeep Hooda has fabulous job in this web series along with all supporting cast 👍. The screen play of this web series engaging every time and you feel the suspension with every seen. The past and present of this web series conection links excellently 😍😍. Beautifully written by balwinder Singh. The all over cast of this web series casted brilliantly. The Gurnam Singh (randeep Hooda) has the best performance he made for this role. This is not very lengthy story yet it is very fast and engaging. It shows very realistic but it is friction at all but it has realistic acenes. Over all it is very highly recommended. I gave 10 point to this web series. I love it😍

First Punjabi matured content
chainedinsanity10 December 2022
I have watched a fair share of Punjabi movies aka Pollywood. But apparently they hardly ever grew up from the stupid comedies. Then come Cat.

It's very well directed, scripted n with matured actors. Randeep Hooda has been so balanced that you can not ask for more.

Dialects are natural and slangs do not look to be over filled like in case of Mirzapur. The best part was the dresses, cars and sets changing when story line was changing from 80s to 90s. They have even taken care to set up living rooms according to era. Then Punjabi music stage shows as part of the story clearly depict change in the Punjabi music of both eras. Only part missed has been the turban style which is "wattan waali pagg" that's been famous recently is being used in 90s but this difference only a Sikh or Punjabi cab notice.

There are multiple stories running in parallel and coming to a logical end. There is no villain or hero but everyone is a character. All roles are well defined and do not seem to be cut short anywhere. Resulting in a crime thriller which ensures to keep viewers gripped.

One thing which clearly shows that Netflix has tried to remain away from controversies by having fictional name cities like SialGarh and number plates using PP instead of PB.

What a series!! Randeep has given his carrier best
ak-4598613 December 2022
One word...Blockbuster! This series is going to build a following...This is the spy series of India and only one person could have done this and that is Randeep Hooda...his transformations have been phenomenal be it in Sarabjit or CAT. He lives his roles he looks more Punjabi than some Punjabis I have seen lol...his Punjabi is flawless and his style of walking, and speaking is just brilliant. I loved the other characters in the series too they also performed very well some known and some unknown faces but everyone's contribution was also good. Director also did a fantastic job. For me the winner is Randeep I don't remember seeing good acting recently from any of the actors in Bollywood recently.

CAT Crime, Action, Thriller
fullstackms10 December 2022
Ironically, CAT the term refreshes the dark & haunting yet gritty memories right off the days of insurgency hit Punjab, which in itself is a far intriguing & sensitising subject to narrate on screen. As far as this series is concerned, whils the title seemed to make sense in the first episode, the plot afterwards is apparently based on the present context of narcotic drugs problem in the state. Ranbir hooda has put in all & done a super awesome job playing the role of a common punjabi/sikh gentleman with utmost perfection. Although a few characters like Madam Aulukh or Pradhan Gaggi sounded a bit off the track, this won't make much difference to non-punjabi audience. Overall its a well directed & gripping drama which'd certainly keep the viewers engaged & at times, at the edges. I'll certainly be looking forward to watch another couple of seasons if the makers have more meat to show on screen.

Randeep Hooda at his best...
darkwizard40414 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A young man is used by the police as a spy to take down dangerous criminals. As the show progresses, more and more events unfold and the truth finally starts to come out. Eventually he figures out that he is nothing but a pawn in a much bigger game and his past comes back to haunt him.

Great concept and fantastic performance by Randeep Hooda. This show is a proof of his true potential and how brilliant of an actor he really is. It's a shame that he doesn't get a lot of good roles in movies. The pacing was great and the plot twists were simply amazing!

My only issues were with the few vulgar scenes which were totally unnecessary. Overall it's a great show which has a lot of potential to be a successful series in the future if the vulgarity can be avoided.

Looking at how the show ended, it's quite obvious that there will be a second season. Eagerly looking forward to that.

Seriously flawed soap!
Woody-Allen14 December 2022
Looks like we went backwards from the 'Don' years. Now everyone meets their undercover agent openly, at restaurants and churches and they all know his identity and even discuss it openly. Everyone in the chain of command knows his name, yet the one dimensional 'bad' higher ups have no clue!

The season starts strongly, with fantastic camera work, and screenplay. It dissolves into Ekta Kapooresque soap from the last scenes of episode 4, with can-tell-its-a-set locations and acting. Family drama ensues, and within 1.5 month of becoming a CAT, our protagonist becomes an insider the most powerful family in the state! Yes, over the years Bollywood has left me without logic, but come-on gimme a break, atleast in the web series world!!

I have fast forwarded episode 5 coz it's a brain wash of scenes trying to repaint how the baddy CM has a sob backstory!! The Canadian daughter is transformed in 15 minutes starts loving ma again!! Hooray!

6th picks up a bit but family drama ensues. It's surprising how lazy the writing was, especially when you take such a complex subject of addiction, it's suppliers and beneficiaries. Everything falls into place for the protagonist, jumping through hoops effortlessly!! A wanna be CM can score a canadian visa for someone else without the candidate ever setting foot in a consulate. The rest of us must be crazy and living in another world! May logic and reason be goddamned!

Still struggling to complete episode 7 and I thank my starts there is so much great material available that I don't miss this at all.

Net/net lazy writing, illogical sequences kill this otherwise good ensemble of great actors. What a waste.

Watch it for Randeep Hooda!!
devinderbonding24 December 2022
Awful direction, low - budget production values, weak editing and some terrible over-acting on display.

Randeep Hooda is the only reason for watching this series. He does all the heavy lifting, puts in his best and makes this series watchable, delivering a measured and restrained performance.

The other performers either over-act or just can't act.

The storyline isn't all that bad, better quality of direction and better production values would have made a world of a difference.

Hard to believe this is a Netflix production. Poor production standards when compared to Sacred Games and Delhi Crime.

singlamohitsm11 December 2022
This is first time i am giving rating to any movie or web series. I could not stop myself to login on imbd rating to rate this web series.

What a great actor randeep hodda is. Really enjoyed CAT on netflix. What a story and action and suspensfull series it is. All in all much matched series.

I watched all the episodes in ine go and cant even get out of my bed for something in the middle. Its all about drug addiction which is at its peak in punjab.

I would rate this 10/10 because of the thriller and action pack series it is.

Salute to randeep hodda and this series made my day.

Thanks again.
