Sex and the City was a smash hit for HBO. Premiering in 1998, the series ran for six seasons, spawned two movies (although we'd prefer to forget that the second one ever came out), and a prequel series (The Carrie Diaries on The CW).
And while there was great excitement over And Just Like That..., the reboot was somewhat marred from the outset with the harassment allegations against Chris Noth, the lack of Samantha (Kim Cattrall), and the introduction of the polarizing Che Diaz.
The series has expanded its circle of friends from the original, bringing in Seema, Nya, and Lisa as foils and sidekicks for Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte, respectively.
Long-time fans enjoyed seeing Anthony find a new partner and learning more about Stanford's life in Japan. Season 2 of And Just Like That... also saw much growth from our leading ladies.
Carrie found and then lost Aidan, at least for the time being.

Ned’s Declassified School Survivor’s Guide stars Devon Werkheiser, Lindsey Shaw and Daniel Curtis Lee took to their podcast to express their regrets after a joke they seemingly made about Drake Bell received backlash earlier this week.
On Tuesday, the Nickelodeon child stars were on a TikTok Live during which they were receiving comments from fans asking what their thoughts were on the Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV docuseries, in which Bell came forward about his child sexual abuse.
While someone commented, asking about the docuseries, Werkheiser made a joke directed at Lee, saying, “Daniel, we told you never to speak about that. Get back in your hole, Daniel, and give me your holes!” Fans took that to mean they were mocking Bell following his claims.
Werkheiser attempted to correct himself in the video, noting, “Sorry, we shouldn’t joke about this. We really shouldn’t.

Not many people have seen "Madame Web" and an even smaller slice of the moviegoing population like the movie.
It stuck out to me that star Dakota Johnson seems to be under the impression that the film was set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I don't know if this is Sony Pictures feeding the actors and/or their agents misleading information or if movie stars like Johnson (understandably) can't be bothered to learn the nerdy logistics of these franchises.
Still, this got me thinking how the Marvel Cinematic Universe doesn't have a "no previous superhero roles" bar to entry. Oscar Isaac, who played the villain in the disastrous "X-Men: Apocalypse," was then recruited to star in "Moon Knight." Christian Bale, a generation's Dark Knight, played Gorr the God Butcher in "Thor: Love and Thunder" because of his children's pleading.
In "Madame Web," Sydney Sweeney plays Julia Cornwall, the future Spider-Woman.

It’s a fairly packed month on Hulu this February thanks to the addition of some interesting TV shows from FX and ABC. While the streamer’s own original content is somewhat limited – Life + Beth is returning for season 2 – you can also catch the new series of Feud this month. The new installment in Ryan Murphy’s juicy anthology show is based on the bestseller Capote’s Women: A True Story of Love, Betrayal, and a Swan Song for an Era by Laurence Leamer, and tells the story of Truman Capote’s betrayal and fall-out with New York’s most glamorous socialites. The cast is absolutely stacked, with Naomi Watts, Diane Lane, Chloë Sevigny and Calista Flockhart all swearing delicious revenge on Tom Hollander’s Capote.

Over the last seven years, Catalonia has built a thriving film industry which has been the envy of other regions across Europe, boasting a thriving co-production scene, a burgeoning animation industry, a 2022 Berlin Golden Bear with Clara Simon’s “Alcarrás,” and a bevy of prizes at 2023’s Berlinale, thanks to “20,000 Species of Bees.”
Catalonia even brought down the flag with Simon’s “Summer 1993,” a 2017 Berlin Best First Feature Film winner, on what could be hailed as a first film movement in Spain in decades: Fiction films grounded in a large sense upon a specific place, but talking about big social or gender issues.
Now Catalonia is attempting to achieve the same impact with its TV industry. Its early results led by “This Is Not Sweden,” will play out at Content Americas and most especially Sweden Göteborg Festival’s TV strand, TV Drama Vision.

Hasleen Kaur of 'Cat' to essay cold-blooded assassin in international production 'Ruthless Bastards’
Actress Hasleen Kaur, who is known for her work in the streaming series ‘Cat’ and ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar’, has started working on her international project titled ‘Ruthless Bastards’. The film is an American-Canadian indie production and stars her in the role of a cold blooded assassin.
The actress will be seen in the role of Ishanna Sidhu in the film representing an Indian gang.
Talking about the same, the actress said: “The director, who has worked primarily on action-drama films most of which were with Jackie Chan, had seen me and liked my work in ‘Cat’. Believe it or not, the dreadful 2004 Catwoman was not the movie Warner Bros. set out to make. After Michelle Pfeiffer‘s stunning turn as Selina Kyle in Batman Returns, nobody initially thought, “Yes, but what if we get some terrible French commercial director to shoot a story about a different cat lady fighting a budget-Emma Frost like it’s a perfume ad?” In the truth, the Catwoman project went through many iterations, not landing on the laughable mess that stalled the career of Halle Berry (who’s actually quite good in Catwoman) until the early 2000s.
Recently, Batman Returns screenwriter Daniel Waters shared some ideas about the original treatment for a Catwoman spinoff that director Tim Burton himself wanted to make after his Batman sequel. As revealed to IndieWire after a screening in Los Angeles in December, Burton had no intention of continuing the superhero route for his Catwoman film.

Disagreements over the script for a Michelle Pfeiffer-headlined Catwoman movie from Tim Burton have been revealed: more here.
By the time he came to the end of shooting 1992’s Batman Returns, director Tim Burton pretty much knew that his time in Gotham City was at an end. His decision to not return for what became Batman Forever suited both him and Warner Bros (not least because of the backlash). But still, there was the olive branch of a Catwoman spin-off movie, that would have starred Michelle Pfeiffer.
This was actually rumoured for some time, and some work was done on the feature.
Daniel Waters, who penned Batman Returns, was hired to take a pass at a Catwoman feature, and as he described just before Christmas (courtesy of IndieWire), he pitched a film where Selina Kyle/Catwoman would have moved to “a Los Angeles version of Gotham City”.

Kate McKinnon had an 11-year run on Saturday Night Live and created many memorable characters throughout her time on the NBC sketch show.
As the Barbie actor made her return to the late-night show for the first time as host, it wasn’t surprising she would reprise one of her recurring roles.
On Saturday’s episode, McKinnon reprised her role of Barbara DeDrew in the recurring sketch “Whiskers R We” which always features the guest host as the co-host. In this case, because McKinnon was the host of the week, she got the help of musical guest Billie Eilish to make an appearance on the sketch, playing the role of Paw-bree Hep-Purrn.
The recurring sketch features a lot of puns, and this episode was focused on showing off the cats available for adoption amid the “Holiday Cat-tacular.” As the sketch continues, there are many sexual innuendos thrown along the way between the two co-hosts.

"The holiday season is full of cherished traditions: gatherings with family and friends, exchanging gifts, and, for discerning readers, the publication of the annual Hellboy Winter Special. This year, ahead of the winter solstice, Dark Horse Comics will publish the Hellboy Winter Special: The Yule Cat one-shot, written and illustrated by Barbarian Lord creator and acclaimed cartoonist Matt Smith, colored by Chris O’Halloran, lettered by Clem Robins, and featuring a variant cover by legendary Hellboy creator Mike Mignola. The special one-shot is inspired by the stories of Jólakötturinn, the ferocious Yule Cat of Icelandic folklore, who is said to come down from the mountains, on the prowl for people who have not received any new clothes to wear before Christmas Eve."
In Hellboy Winter Special: The Yule Cat, Hellboy travels to Reykjavik, "where children are disappearing and a giant beast has been spotted…could it be the infamous Yule Cat of Icelandic lore?...

Cat Power and Iggy Pop have teamed up for a new cover of John Lennon’s “Working Class Hero.”
The cover arrives as a single from an upcoming compilation album titled The Faithful: A Tribute to Marianne Faithfull, organized by In The Q Records, Bandbox, and the Women of Rock Oral History Project to help raise funds for Faithfull as she “recovers from Long Covid.” Thus, the version of the song that Cat Power’s Chan Marshall and Pop have delivered pays homage to Faithfull’s 1979 version of the song, with a driving beat and an ambient sense of tension.
Overtop, Marshall’s multi-tracked vocals carry Lennon’s powerful words, while Pop dips in throughout with spoken word lines, sounding almost like a late-career Leonard Cohen, proclaiming a solemn truth with a low, commanding growl. Listen to the single below.
In a statement, Marshall expressed her excitement to be part of the project.

Fantastic Cat make their case as the Harlem Globetrotters of Americana music with a head-spinning, instrument-trading, vocal-swapping rendition of Wings’ “Band on the Run.” The note-perfect but still ramshackle cover arrives on the 50th anniversary of the release of Paul McCartney and Wings’ 1973 album, Band on the Run, and a day after McCartney announced a new anniversary edition of the LP dropping in February.

Singer-songwriter Cat Power, a.k.a Chan Marshall, took the stage Monday night as The Tonight Show’s musical guest. Dressed in a black suit and a loose necktie, Marshall and the band performed Bob Dylan’s iconic “Like a Rolling Stone,” from her new album Cat Power Sings Dylan: The 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert.
The record itself is a recreation of Dylan’s fabled 1966 concert, which – unlike Marshall’s – didn’t actually take place at London’s Royal Albert Hall at all. One of the more famous moments on...

Emilia Jones (Coda) and Nicholas Braun (Succession) co-star in Cat Person, a sharply written thriller that explores the minefield of dating in the modern era. Based on the New Yorker short story by Kristen Roupenian, it’s by turns chilling, suspenseful and provocative.
Directed by Susanna Fogel, Cat Person centres on 20-year-old Margot (Jones) a second-year student who also holds down a concession stand job at her local cinema. That’s where she meets Robert (Braun), a tall, bearded older man who takes her number after a bit of cross-counter flirtation.
Soon Margot and Robert are texting each other all the time, much to the consternation of her protective best friend Taylor (Geraldine Viswanathan), who’s on high alert for red flags,...

Hitman dramedy “Knok,” pandemic-thriller “Lt-21,” and dystopian sendup “Rictus” will head off Have A Good One’s (Hago) Mipcom slate, as the Paris-based TV development and sales company has boarded two additional series currently in production.
Produced by Mifa Pictures (Groupe StoryPlus) and N22 Productions for 13ème Rue France, and created by Guillaume Duhesme, Bastien Ughetto and Lucie Moreau, the off-kilter “Knok” follows a hapless single-dad inducted into the underworld and made an unwilling contract-killer after accidentally witnessing a hit. César-winner Sylvie Testud (“Fear and Trembling”) and up-and-comer Johann Cuny lead the cast for a loopy six-part season that won acclaim at the La Rochelle Fiction Festival earlier this year.
Given the spotlight at the Biarritz Unifrance Rendez-vous last month, eco-thriller “Lt-21” tracks a disquieting pandemic plot about an international virus that forces amnesia on those afflicted. Actors Arnaud Valois (“Bpm”) and Léonie Simaga (“The Eddy”) play a pair doctors...

This post contains spoilers for "The Fall of the House of Usher."
Edgar Allan Poe's "The Fall of the House of Usher" may only be a few thousand words long, but in Mike Flanagan's sprawling and savage new Netflix series, it takes a whole lot longer for the members of House Usher to reach their ultimate fate. Across the series' eight episodes, members of the wealthy pharmaceutical family die disturbing and complex deaths at the hands of a curse patriarch Roderick Usher (Bruce Greenwood) and his sister Madeline (Mary McDonnell) agreed to years ago. In a clever twist, though, each death ties back to a famous (or lesser-known) story or poem from the famously bleak author, all of them reimagined for a modern audience.
Flanagan's "The Fall of the House of Usher" is entertaining whether or not you recognize the stories behind its goriest moments, but the filmmaker...

According to its screenwriter, one entry into Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (Ssmu) is more than likely no longer in active development.
The story of Sony Pictures’ Silver Sable movie is… well, it’s a lot. Initially conceived in 2014 as a team-up movie between femme fatale Black Cat and high-tech mercenary Silvija Sablinova, the film was split up into two separate projects back in 2018.
Since that time, it’s been largely radio silence on both the Silver Sable and Black Cat solo films, with only brief comments from the screenwriter of the former from 2020 in which she shared that she had no updates.

Brian Dunne’s Loser on the Ropes is one of the sleeper albums of the year, a collection of melodic yet punky dissertations on finding the perseverance to grow old — if not up. “The Kids Are All Grown,” about facing your inner child, is a standout, but its sharp arrangement on the album leans more toward The Cars than the vulnerable vibes Dunne projects when he plays it live.

“My family’s always been in meat.”
Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre introduces a sadistic clan living in a rural pocket of Texas left behind by industrialization. As The Hitchhiker (Edwin Neal) explains to Sally Hardesty (Marilyn Burns) and her friends, his family’s business has always been in slaughter. However, technological advances left their practices obsolete, forcing them to turn to more extreme measures, replacing animal meat with human flesh. Sally doesn’t know it yet, but the Hitchhiker marks her group as his family’s next meal.
Though the family members change throughout the franchise, meat remains as integral to Leatherface’s family as the ‘saw itself, whether it’s The Cook’s (Jim Siedow) prized chili or good old-fashioned Texas barbecue. That extends beyond celluloid, too; many of the original filming locations from the franchise are now working establishments that frequently serve, well, meat.

As the adage goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. Viewfinder has at least a hundred of them to spare, but the real magic of developer Sad Owl Studios’s first-person photographic puzzle game lies in its artistic, interactive approach to science. Your character is immersed in a simulation created by four individuals—Mirren, Chi Leung, Aharon, and Hiraya—and is desperately searching for the results of a weather-related experiment that might somehow help reverse the devastating effects of climate change in the real world.
Wisely, the game doesn’t get bogged down on the technical aspects of the scientific and mathematical theories that your character wrestles with, or on the ins and outs of the teleporters that Chi Leung has engineered. Viewfinder ends up focusing more on Hiraya’s guitar hoppy than the botanical expertise that she was presumably hired to bring to the simulation. And the game...

Director Hugh Mulhern, who Dn last featured as part of our coverage of the Nfts graduate showcase last year, returns today with a new Riff Raff Films produced music video for artist Hak Baker. Mulhern’s video is a chaotic blaze of live action and animation, showcasing the pure chaos of a night on the town through a blend of forms and styles. The seedy, twisted imagery of the animation in particular feels like it could be lifted from a Robert Crumb comic or Ralph Bakshi’s controversial Fritz the Cat and the frenetic camerawork perfectly reflects the descending feeling of losing your inhibitions. With the video’s recent online release, Dn discussed the process of making it with Mulhern, talking through the challenge of blending animation and live action footage, the equipment necessary to pull it off, and the freeing creativity afforded to filmmakers through making music videos.
