Touching, philosophical, profound, meaningful, sad and heartwarming anime.
wahyuawaludin1 October 2023
In the realm of animated tales, there exists a gem of profound emotion and contemplation. "Frieren" unfolds a poignant narrative, blending the hues of ignorance, regret, and the yearning to understand humanity. Frieren, once unaware of the depths of human nature, finds himself grappling with the haunting echo of missed opportunities and unspoken words after the passing of cherished friends.

As the scenes unfold, the story paints a portrait of profound regret etched on Frieren's soul. Regret for not delving into the essence of those dear to them, regret for the conversations left unsaid, the laughter that never echoed loud enough, and the understanding that eluded their grasp. This poignant realization dawns upon Frieren, a bittersweet melody that tugs at the heartstrings.

In the wake of loss, Frieren sets forth on an odyssey, a journey to unravel the enigma of humanity. A pilgrimage driven by an insatiable desire to grasp the essence of human beings - to perceive their dreams, fears, hopes, and aspirations. Every step is a dance of sorrow and longing, a dance that is as captivating as it is heartbreaking.

The animation breathes life into this tale, the vivid colors and expressive strokes adding depth to the emotional tapestry. The elegiac soundtrack echoes the pain and joy of Frieren's quest, every note a whisper of the soul's lament.

Through Frieren's eyes, we witness the beauty of a newfound comprehension. Every interaction, every revelation, is a brushstroke painting a new layer of understanding on the canvas of his heart. The story, an exploration of the fragility of life and the potency of regrets, serves as a mirror to our own existence.

"Frieren" stands as a testament to the human condition, a somber reminder of the value of cherishing those around us, of the fleeting nature of time, and the importance of understanding and being understood. It unearths the eternal truth that sometimes, it takes loss to ignite a burning desire to truly know the beating hearts that surround us. And in this, lies the heartrending beauty of this unforgettable anime.

One of the best animes.
martin-holl30 October 2023
I like the artstyle and the sound quality is astounding. The story is diffrent, because it begins after the kill of the demonlord, the most powerful enemy. I can recommend this anime to everyone, because it is funny, sad, nostalgic. The pace is a little slow at the start, but it catches up and it is adding to the story, because it is about a 1000 year old elf, for her time is diffrent. And still she was only 10 years with her companions at the journey, she had many memories. Very nice crafted Anime. I think everyone can see himself in one or the other character. Even the drawing style gives me nostalgica, it reminds me of the old handdrawn disney movies.

It's beautifully written and the depth of character as well as the development by far one of my favorites. Such a beautiful and stunning story. I wish they made more stories like this one. It's been a long time since I've watched an anime with such vigor and awe.

To anybody wondering if this story is worth third time this by far has some of the best writing that I've seen in a long time. The contrast between the different character developments is staggering. It brings new perspective to friendship and love the characters are well thought out and deliver an impactful series full of emotion and wonder.

Masterpiece
Czadziorxd29 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
"Sousou no Frieren" is undeniably a masterpiece that has left an indelible mark on my soul. This manga series, authored by the brilliant duo of Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe, stands out as a true gem in the world of manga and fantasy storytelling. It has the power to transport readers to a breathtakingly magical world while evoking profound emotions.

One of the most captivating aspects of "Sousou no Frieren" is its unique and beautifully crafted world-building. The story is set in a realm where immortality is both a gift and a curse, and it explores the consequences of eternal life. This concept alone is thought-provoking and makes the reader ponder existential questions.

The characters are exceptionally well-developed, each with their own complex motivations and growth arcs. Frieren, the immortal elf, serves as the heart of the story. Her journey from youthful innocence to world-weary wisdom is a testament to the authors' skill in character development. Her interactions with others, particularly the human warrior Heinz, add depth and nuance to the narrative.

The artwork in "Sousou no Frieren" is nothing short of breathtaking. Tsukasa Abe's illustrations are a visual feast, capturing the ethereal beauty of the fantasy world and its inhabitants. The character designs are distinct and memorable, and the action sequences are dynamic and exciting.

What truly sets this manga apart is its emotional resonance. It delves into themes of mortality, friendship, love, and the passage of time with a level of sincerity that is both rare and powerful. As Frieren watches her human friends age and pass away while she remains unchanged, the story explores the bittersweet nature of immortality, making readers reflect on the value of the finite moments we all have.

"Sousou no Frieren" is not just a manga; it's a profound meditation on life itself. It challenges us to consider what it means to truly live, love, and let go. The storytelling is rich and immersive, the characters are unforgettable, and the themes are universally relatable.

In conclusion, "Sousou no Frieren" is a literary masterpiece that has left an indelible mark on my heart and mind. Its unique world-building, well-crafted characters, stunning artwork, and emotional depth make it the best thing I have ever seen in my entire life. It is a must-read for anyone seeking a profound and transformative storytelling experience.

A beautiful anime that saved the fantasy genre
iwasakikoemi11 December 2023
The fantasy genre was dying because of the repetitive themes and stereotypes that all of them used but.. Frieren was different. It's a story that teaches you to cherish your memories and have fun with the time you have. I love how they made the MC immortal so shes naturally used to caring about the time she has with others that made it possible for us to relate to her if we don't care about how time flies when we are with people dear to us. It's a very soft somehow calming anime in my opinion compared to everything ive watched up until now I would say this is something I can watch without stressing.

Best anime or 2023
ryanjgreyes23 December 2023
No words to describe but this nostalgic feeling that will make you reminisce & reflect about the past, present, and future. The show is a great reminder of how limited time really is, and how much an impact one person in your life can make. It is a great reminder that death is an important aspect of life, and how we struggle to make a mark in history in order to be remembered by the next generation. The latest ep tells the inevitability of being forgotten, and its a wakeup call that we shouldn't live to be remembered by the future, but to be remembered by those that are around us now. WATCH IT PLSSS.

Best anime I have seen in years
augustosamame-333-15741913 November 2023
I judge anime and stories in general, not by their ability to wow me with effects or action, but for how much they make me feel and learn about myself. And in this, Frieren shines like no other anime I've ever watched, managing to make me smile, feel wonder, nostalgia and excitement all at the same time. Its a beautiful coming of age story, which sounds weird for a thousand year elf, but that's what it is. In it, we will find life lessons which we can certainly apply to our own lives, if we look close enough.

I've watched till Episode 10, and it just keeps getting better and better, weaving backstory and exposition to make current events feel preordained yet surprising at the same time. I look forward to watching this masterpiece in its entirety, but even incomplete so far, Frieren has already taken its place in my book along with the greatest of all time.

Next level anime!!!
Arcturanis11 January 2024
This anime raises the bar for every anime in existence! This is so amazing beyond words! <3 My favourite anime so far! Frieren level anime hehe :D. Why? Because it gives real life lessons inside every episode and imo.. made me a better human with every tear I dropped during watching it! I love this anime!

Imagine an anime which makes you value your time spent and gives you hope for life... this is what Frieren done for me and much more. With every episode my inner child was healing and my hope was re-ignited again and again.

The softness of heart inside the anime is beautifull and I really want to thank the creators of this anime for this wonderfull piece of healing art!

Phenomenal
darryledw29 December 2023
I am not a big time anime fan by any measure, but after stumbling upon this show I must say that I was blown away by it. It is a beautifully made animation with incredible visuals, passionate voice acting (I watched the English version) and amazing music.

The best part about this show is the softness of the story and how it can make so many simple moments feel very special. The main characters are very well written, they all feel unique with good traits and flaws all equally on display, which allows them to quickly become characters that you feel invested in.

I can't wait to watch more of this show, and I will probably buy my first ever manga because of it :)

Refreshing, calm but deep
yuwandakasikin29 November 2023
Something new. Since most anime or manga focus on the heroes and their adventure. This one focus on a POV of one of the member. The story itself quite unique and reminds us how to be human again.

Maybe it's quite equivalent on how we spend our college times with those special persons. When we graduate we drift aparts but what connects all of us are those memories and fun things, and crazy stuff that we did. Sometimes as life goes by we forget those people and actually being left alone.

The stories itself and each episodes presented beautifully. It's fun to watch but also it felt a bit painful to watch as each episodes also reminds us on lots of small but important things that we might have forget.

It would be embarrassing when we meet again
gkominato23 March 2024
I can't wait for season 2...No! I can wait. Fondly!

That's the point of the series: a relaxing story of patience and wonder. It has action and excitement, but I would say that it's best feature is the "Journey aspect". Following along a party of heroes. Learning about them and ultimately feeling that you are part of the adventure.

I don't know why but as the series develops, I like Frieren more and more. She started as a borderline sad character in my eyes, but now I and also Frieren herself have accepted the melancholy. Rather melancholy has turned into gratitude.

That's the feeling I have after finishing this season... gratitude.

Why do we say quick goodbyes?

Why aren't our goodbyes tearful?

It would be embarrassing when we meet again.

Painful to watch
sohrabpoursam15 January 2024
After desperately trying to find the gem in this tv show after dreading through every episode that has been released yet. I feel like i've been deceived by the reviewers.

Tv show is painfully slow and even when something is happening, it's mediocre at best.

Maybe there's something I'm missing, like not knowing what dungeons and dragons is. Not relating to the characters because of not regretting a lot of the decisions i do. Or that i can't relate because i'm typically not surrounded by naive idiots who doesn't learn from previous historical events.

Either way, 2 of my friends has had the same problem with this tv show. It feels almost like these reviews are created by gpt-4 bots.

Gem. Heartwarming thought provoking life of an adventure.
gilgaladtoram25 January 2024
Frieren is such a fresh of breath air from the overhyped shounen we usually gets. . . . Heartwarming thought provoking life of an adventure. . . . Frieren is an anime we never knew we needed. . . . I actually didn't expected it to be well received cause people were used to the beatdown power showdown shounen where the main protagonist overcome their antagonists by never giving up. . . . But guess I am not the only one who fell in love with this kind of light hearted masterpiece. . . It is truly a gem of its generation . . . . We seldom get animes like this nowadays. . . It's just pure happiness that it delivers whatever it was intended to do. . . . It's just pure adventure. . . .

Unlimited World of Anime
nightringer-768402 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
After watching 2 episodes, I knew I'm gonna love Frieren: Beyong Journey's End.

Imagine you were part of a group that saved the world, a long live elf mage continued living while her human partners, the famed hero and a priest, died and dying. When you shared lives, injuries and hardness of battles, a bond of family were formed tighter than the bond of blood.

The priest saved a small child who he had groomed to be a mage. This child would be the elf mage companion as he was dying because he was worried she would be alone.

The story seemed simplistic at first, but the depth of meanings and emotional weight were heavy and beautiful. In episode 2, the 2 mages stayed nearby the statue of the fallen hero for half a year trying to find a rare, almost extinct blue flower to plant around her fallen comrade's statue. He made a promise long ago that he would show her the blue flower when he went home, which unfortunately in death.

Out of predetermined coincidence, the young mage released seed rats in the wild, which in turn lead them to where the blue flowers grew.

A simple story of hard headed determination and relentless to find what had been a small gesture but became an event of life lesson to never forget one's promise, even in death. A small smile but filled with warm hearted poetry.

This is one rare artistic anime worth watching and became a lesson of story development and animation technique because the somber and tranquil nature of the anime was actually hightened the emotional weight of the story.

Update: Now that I have watched episode 6, here's my updated review: I loved it. Freiren Beyond Journey's End is a rarity anime. It's humorous, light hearted, thoughtful, philosophical and at the same time sad. Being the youngest and the longest to live in a legendary adventurer group, Freiren would be the only survivor left. Her journey joined by her pupil and her friend's apprentice. The actors and animators successfully convey verbally and visually how awkward the journey was.

Update no 2: milet sang Anytime, Anywhere as the ending of every episode got exceptionally sad and beautiful to end the first season.

Pretty deep exploration of characters
nigelowen211 October 2023
I have seen the first 4 episodes and they are so far above the norm in character story development.

There is not a lot of Anime I have seen which has reached this level of resonance with being alive.

It is firmly embedded in the traditional troupes of the the standard fantast anime world and uses this to tell the a slice of life of the main character Frieren and immortal elf experiencing the transient nature of human life as her friends journey ends. It isn't as negative as it sounds, it takes a wimsical approach more aligned with a Hayao Miyazaki. Movie.

While I have only seen the first few episodes I can only see this getting better.

Breathtaking
seriouspark6 January 2024
Currently at episode 17 of frieren, and I have to say this anime is an adventure, breathtaking, gorgeous, amazing. If you would ask me to describe it in one single word it would be just this: emotion.

Frieren is an adventure, literally. It feels like a combination of the hobbit and lord of the rings, but after evil was defeated and new heroes appear...there is still evil, and luckily there are still heroes.

I don't know how good the manga is, I just know that up until this point it's a masterpiece for me, madhouse really gave it all, this is their best work and I know I'm hyping this anime to the skies but it's just so worth it. Like life, frieren doesn't have a bigger story, yes, it has a main 'quest', but the little side quests is what makes life and this anime so beautiful.

The OST by Evan Call is stunning. There is only 1 as good enough as frieren's that I can remember, and that is Violet Evergarden, which was created by the same author. To say that he created the OST for these 2 legends is an accomplishment in itself.

The OP is very good, but the ED by Milet is the real banger, and it could have honestly been both OP and ED, that's just how good it is.

This is on par to become my favorite anime ever, absolutely every aspect of Frieren is well crafted, from the animation, voice acting, music, stories..all.

A wonderful anime
amitshmueli1 October 2023
Sousou no frieren it's amazing I haven't seen a good anime in a long time, but if it's an impressive animation with a world-building like that, it sounds intriguing. The anime strongly reminds me of the excellent 'Mushoku Tensei,' and in my opinion, it might even be on par with it. I also read the manga, and it's excellent too. However, what makes the series so good, in my opinion, is the main character, Frieren. She's a very different main character compared to the others. In my view, this anime is undoubtedly outstanding, and the manga is also fascinating and excellent, much like the series

Friren is my favorite of all time
markmarkg-2967010 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
"Sousou no Frieren" is one of my favorite manga series, and for me, it is a great anime for people like me who are just starting to watch anime. It's a new story with a fantasy storytelling style that's different from all the anime I've ever seen. It uses flashbacks and different perspectives to explore the past and present. Including the quality of the picture and animation, which is very smooth in the battle scenes, even though the anime is not focusing on fighting that much, but the fighting scene is still good.

More than that, the character designs are very interesting and have their own complex motivations and growth arcs. In the story, there are not only humans but also dwarves, elves, and demons, which are very interesting and unique. For example, demons in Sousou no Frieren actually don't have emotions and don't know how to talk, but they try to act like humans to fool humans on emotions. Like demons acting to cry, but actually they don't know what crying is.

The world-building, particularly the exploration of past eras with magic, is what makes me interested in magic in this series. It starts by following a group of heroes who went on an adventure to defeat the Demon King for 10 years with their friends. After defeating the Demon King, everyone goes their separate ways, promising each other that in the next 50 years they would watch the shooting stars together, with the main character, the female elf Frieren, continuing her adventures in search of new magic.

After 50 years passed, everyone gathered again, and by now everyone was old because the lifespan of humans was much shorter than that of elves. After finishing watching the shooting stars, a member of Himmel's party passes away, leaving Frieren with feelings of regret. This made her sad and regretful, as she wished she had known sooner. In the last 50 years, she would have talked with Himmel more and gotten to know everyone in the party more.

So she decides to embark on a new adventure, seeking a way to reconnect with her lost friend and find meaning in her long life. Venture to the Demon King's tower to find the resting place of the souls in order to be reunited with her former friend Himmel. After that, start another adventure with Frieren by going to the same old place. That will be told along with the past of walking past old parties. The good and bad memories that everyone has gone through together will allow the viewer to understand Frieren, Himmel, and their friends more.

I highly recommend this anime to everyone. Because there are many emotions in it, whether it makes me feel funny, sad, nostalgic, excited, and lost in adventure again. But for me, the pace was a little slow at the start. I felt a bit bored, but after I understood it more, it made me enjoy it and want to continue watching it, so much so that I had to buy the manga. Read the next episode that hasn't been made into an anime yet.

In the scene where Himmel creates statues of himself placed everywhere he goes, his intention is for everyone to remember him and acknowledge his existence. However, the true significance lies in ensuring that Frieren will not be lonely in the future. Himmel knew he couldn't stay with the Frieren for long. But at least there will be that statue beside Frieren forever. This scene makes me feel very appreciative of Himmel's actions because it is not a very big action, but it is full of the meaning of love and care that Himmel has for Frieren. And some part of that Friren adventure with her old party It also makes me feel nostalgic about stories in anime to the point that it reminds me of my own story in the past, where I was happier than now.

However, I'm grateful to this anime for giving me such good moments. So I want everyone to go watch it at least once. Overall, Sousou no frieren is considered one of my favorite great anime. It's got something for everyone, and I think you should give it a shot!

Truly exceptional anime
matejkonetzny3 February 2024
I have watched around 28 animes and i think this might be the best of all time, everything is amazing about this masterpiece from the animation to the story. Couldnt recommend a series more. Never have i ever witnessed such a beautiful colorful animation with amazing fight sequences. The world building is even better than one piece. Frieren might be my most favorite female character of all time.

Her development is absolutely amazing and im looking forward to seeing more of her.

Not a single episode has dissapointed me,. Im not that guy that would give everything 10/10 but this anime is truly exceptional. Its a shame that there will be only 7 more eps. I advise everyone to watch this beauty.

Don't lose this masterpiece
angelofra20 January 2024
I have seen a lot of animes in my life. They tend to repeat always the same concept but in different ways and it is actually the way they tell the story that makes an Anime a good Anime. Here I think we are far ahead the threshold of good Anime. Here every single piece of story is adapted in an astounding way. The characters are great, the main topic of the whole Anime is really interesting and in every episode there is an improvement. The art and musinc are astounding as well and sometimes give vibes similar to the lord of the rings. Well what can I say? Just watch it, if you think it is kinda slow just watch it and frieren will not disappoint you. Approved!

Started well but could not hold up
x_d_711 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The first four episodes were promising. Great setup of characters with the squad. Fantastic musical score along with top rate animation.

The story of an adventuring group containing a mage, fighter, priest and drawf fighting against a demon king is a classic fantasy plot. The characters were beautifully developed with interesting personality.

Unfortunately it started to go downhill from there, with the story turning into a young mage student developing under the teaching of Frieren. Quite a bit of juvenile elements were introduced as well as animation style.

The rest of the season was a long drawn out battle of mages in exam style setting, all have been seen before in other Anime. Whilst there are interspersed glimpses of the original group of adventurers which was far more interesting, the story for me died half way through the season.

For more mature viewing, with just about the best story telling of all, if you haven't seen Attack on Titans as an Anime, or any forms of television, please do so.

Disappointed
Wxrnes5 February 2024
I was completely unfamiliar with this work but was intrigued by the overwhelmingly positive ratings it received everywhere. Frieren generates a lot of buzz within the manga community. So, out of curiosity, I decided to give it a watch. However, I never managed to engage with it. Even with effort.. It's not a bad piece of work, but it's just not for me. I found myself bored and unable to connect with it.

I wonder if people are genuine with their ratings or if they're just following the trend.

Positive points: the art and animation are excellent, and the work explores some interesting philosophical themes.

Negative points: The characters are average, their character design is average, the plot is average, lacking action, the characters aren't very intelligent, the pace is slow, there are few stakes, in fact, there's just nothing exceptional about it. There are dozens of works much better than this.

Probaby the best show of the year
elijahachalmers3 April 2024
The incredible thing about this show is that it seems to do everything right. Each episode is carefully crafted to perfection, making sure all the plot beats, pacing, and characters fit into place.

Stories are like puzzles and they need to fit together so that you can see the whole picture. In Frieren the puzzle is constructed perfectly for its audience making sure everything makes sense.

Much like history, stories repeat themselves but never in the same way. Frieren feels similar to Hobbit and The Lord Of The Ring. Without spoiling it, I would 100% recommend Frieren: Beyond Journeys End. :)

A legend
ssidorovich28 February 2024
It starts at leasurely pace and might lose some viewers in the process. But for those who bear on it's a rare gem and experience not to be forgotten anytome soon.

With moments of reflection, touching dialogues and sweeping action it creates a balance that is like nothing else. The characters get their moments, even seemingly minor ones. As for those who are at the center like titular Frieren and Fren I couldn't keep myself from really caring for them and their journey. Their victories brought me high, though I was just sitting on the other side of the screen.

A deep gratitude to everyone behind this masterpiece, you created a legend. You are legend.

Well-Written Story!
Lochana00118 March 2024
I watched this anime the day it premiered, and after watching the first 4 episodes, I was bored and almost dropped it. However, I kept watching new episodes week after week. After 10 episodes, my opinion changed, and it became one of my favorite anime of all time. Now, I understand the meaning behind the first episodes. The story is pretty interesting and not boring at all (after the first episodes), and there are so many hyped scenes. Her past and present stories are well-written. If you like some action scenes, of course, there's a lot more in this anime, and the animations are incredible and beautiful. I recommend this anime. Thank you!
