Krösus "Enclosure of the Commons" Sork foiled!
Anton-J27 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
One prominent theme in the Bamse universe is the conflict between Krösus Sork - a rodent hellbent on enclosing common land for private profit - and the inhabitans of the Hills (e.g. Bamse, Lille Skutt, Skalman) with their folksy pre-socialism. "Bamse och världens minsta äventyr" is a tale told in this tradition. Krösus wants to turn the common meadow into a parking lot, and we can gleam in his song routine his industrial-asphalt nightmarish vision of the world.

Nalle-Maja is turned miniscule by the plot-point-sleeper Skalman's XYZ-juice. This means that she can percieve the meadow from the bugs, frogs and other small animals perspective, launching a revolt against the approaching industrialization! Here the Bamse universe's traditional non-violence (which always has been a bit arbitrary) is somewhat subverted by the small animals use of force. This is contrasted by Carl Bildt the Cricket (who marks the final death knell of the socialdemocratic hegemony in Sweden) and his ineffectual silent diplomacy (a jab at the Dawit Isaak-affair) and inane resolutions. Nalle-Maja is a sort of radicalized Greta Tunberg in this regard.

The capitalist class is defeted with the help of a miniscule Bamse on a rescue mission for his daugther, returning the meadow to common ownership. Unfortunately the real life Diggers seldom succed in this regard.

I really enjoyed the masked frog and the running gag that no one can recoqnize him in his disguise! The animation is fine and full of true-believer nostalgia, but the lip sync feels slightly off for some reason. Might be a bit scary for younger kids with the theme of not being seen/heard by parents. Enjoyable and well worth a watch! Viva la grenouille! Viva la Revolution!
