Throwback horror is a huge genre business. Give the Directors, actors, crew, and everyone to work in a time when the genre was in an age when anyone with a blade, drill, screwdriver, or some other implement could wreak revenge. When sexual repression, peer pressure, and social mores were simpler and easy to comprehend. Usher in (not the House of Usher) the Bayview Entertainment’s DVD release of Grainger Hines’s “haunted house” thriller, The Mill (2008).
The film concerns events in an abandoned mill in which eight college kids get up to sex, fun, drinking, drugs, and adventure all in the name of partying. Those heady days of the carnal or in this case, what it tries to do is be charnel. The eight enter a night of horror filled with snakes, wild dogs, tarantulas, and a pack of rats. The trouble is you can see everything coming but that...

Ahead of its World Premiere at the Overlook Film Festival, upcoming psychological thriller Clock from 20th Digital Studio and Hulu Originals debuts its first trailer for the “timely horror feature.”
The film tells the story “of a woman who enrolls in a clinical trial to try and fix her seemingly broken biological clock after friends, family, and society pressures her to have children.”
Dianna Agron (Shiva Baby, I Am Number Four) leads as Ella, with Jay Ali (“Carnival Row,” “Daredevil”) as her husband. Melora Hardin (“The Office,” “Falling Skies”) features as the pioneering doctor managing Ella’s treatment.
Arachnophobes beware. The brand-new trailer for the Hulu Original below introduces Ella as a woman positive that her biological clock is broken, and attempts to “fix” it appears to come with spiders, paranoia, and psychological terror. Is Ella surrounded by people who mean her harm, or is she cracking under the pressure?...

After starring in the comedy Vacation Friends and its upcoming sequel Honeymoon Friends for the Hulu streaming service, Lil Rel Howery has taken the lead into another Hulu Original: the sci-fi horror movie The Mill. It’s said that The Mill is largely a one-man show, but Scoot McNairy (Monsters), Pat Healy (Station 19) and Karen Obilom (House Party) are also in the cast.

Forced to work as a beast of burden to stay alive, he must find a way to escape before the birth of his child. An image of Howery’s character in the cell can be seen at the bottom of this article,...

After selling off its post-production color finishing service to Streamland Media last week, Technicolor was reborn on Wednesday as Technicolor Creative Studios, a new restructuring that consolidates its remaining visual effects, gaming, and animation (Mikros Animation) companies under one division.
So much for the premature demise of the Technicolor brand, although its historic connection with excellence in color marks the end of an era. But then our emotional connection to “glorious Technicolor”, associated with the three-strip camera and dye-transfer printing, essentially vanished when the company abandoned film stock and went digital in the 21st century.
“The sale of Technicolor Post was the first step in a wider, ongoing strategic plan to establish a future-facing Technicolor business,” said Christian Roberton, president of Technicolor Creative Studios. The new focus will be “on delivering work across the entertainment, advertising, and experiential marketing landscape that hinges on the intersection of creativity and technology. The...

This is the Pure Movies review of The Violators, directed by Helen Walsh, and starring Lauren McQueen (The Mill, Ordinary Lies) and Brogan Ellis (Waterloo Road) alongside Stephen Lord (Penny Dreadful, Shameless, Route Irish), Liam Ainsworth (Kajaki), Derek Barr (Pride) and newcomer Callum King Chadwick. The Violators is a wounding look at a young woman’s navigation through life whilst encountering dangerous men at every corner, chipping away at her hardened exterior. Bestselling author Helen Walsh (The Lemon Grove) has translated her interest in transgressive sexualities, gender and class onto film. With a female writer and director, and starring two female protagonists, The Violators is significant in a time where there is a perceived dearth of women film directors. The events of the story are shocking but the waves this film will make in terms of disturbing the male-dominated status quo of cinema will be more deeply felt.

Jame Bond author Anthony Horowitz has cast the lead roles in his new BBC One crime drama New Blood.
No Offence actor Ben Tavassoli and The Mill's Mark Strepan will take on the lead roles of junior investigators Rash and Stefan.
Apparently, it'll be the first time that the Serious Fraud Office and police have worked together on screen, as the two are brought together by a link between two seemingly unrelated cases.
The crime-solving duo will come up against rich and powerful individuals, corporations and governments that are protected by an army of lawyers.
Anthony Horowitz said: "When I created a hero who was Polish/British and another who was Iranian/British, I never expected that we'd actually find the real thing but with Mark and Ben we've done exactly that.
"They really are the 'new blood' that the title promises and I'm confident that they're going to...

BBC Three is moving exclusively online in the not-too-distant future, but in truth the channel has been edging that way for some time.
Now in its fourth year, BBC Comedy Feeds has served up regular batches of pilots on the web to give exposure to new talent, with several shows eventually being picked up as full BBC Three series.
First screened at the BBC Salford Sitcom Showcase 2015 in May, Fishbowl is launched on BBC iPlayer this Monday (July 13).
It's been described by its creators as "a warm-hearted comedy about the suffocating joy of hanging out with your parents in a lovely little town where escape is impossible and there's usually chips for tea".
Fishbowl stars Katherine Rose Morley as Hattie, a girl who is forced to return home to mum and dad after an eventful first term at university.

Okay, so we might not be wearing our gladrags and we might not be sipping champagne, but who says a onesie and a takeaway can't be glamorous?
It's BAFTA night, and while we're not at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane with all the best and brightest from the last year of television, at least we can join the party from our sofas. Yep, we'll be blogging along with the awards - which start at 8pm on BBC One - so grab your slippers and a cuppa and join in by tweeting @digitalspy and leaving your comments below...
And as a reminder, the awards actually start in "real life" at 7pm - but we'll be doggedly going along with the television broadcast and pretending we're not an hour behind everyone else, so there's no fear of spoilers. If you want things as they happen, we'll be updating our winners' list here.

Channel 4 has given the green light to a second series of period drama The Mill.
The new six-part series will be based between 1838 and 1842, a time of political change following the Poor Act Amendment of 1834 which made a distinction between "deserving" and "undeserving" poor.
A press release on series two reads: "As well as picking up where it left off with characters such as feisty Liverpudlian apprentice Esther Price (Kerrie Hayes) and progressive young engineer Daniel Bate (Matthew McNulty), series two will introduce new characters, including John Howlett and his family, economic migrants in search of work in the booming north, and a handsome apprentice shoemaker called Will Whittaker.
"The Mill is a distinctly Channel 4 take on costume drama, showing history from the bottom up - a worm's eye view. The narrative is driven by a young, spirited cast who depict a moment in history when the working...

Don't go looking for Lols, Rofls and PSMLs aplenty on Sunday nights on Channel 4 for the next month. The Mill is a new four-part drama about turbulent years in rural Cheshire at the Quarry Bank Mill. And by 'eck it was grim.
Not since the Brookside Close got bulldozed down have I seen so much misery and gloom from the North-West of England.
Based around the real people and history of the Quarry Bank, it wouldn't be my first pick destination for a trip in a time machine. Nobody smiled. It was slop for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And misery reigned supreme.
Women getting groped and molested by their supervisors, kids getting their arms chopped up in the machinery and then having them amputated with what looked like meat cleavers, 12-hour days with only a splodge of what looks like papier-mache as sustenance.
I'm not the biggest fan of...
