Was the script written by ChatGPT?
zeki-430 July 2023
"Please write movie script. It has to have to following present: -grieving protagonist who's trying to solve a case, so there's both inner and outer conflict -a killer who films his acts, Make him a hacker also, to confuse the police. -some tech talk thrown in to add credibility -a sidekick (Roland Moller) who's there just to ask questions on behalf of the audience, so no one gets confused"

Voila... and there you have it. A script without any soul. And actors completely wasted. I have never seen Roland Moller - who's usually good at playing at villain - deliver such an uninspiring performance.

Not good but not unwatchable.
tinagchristensen11 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The start of the movie is actually promising and the scary parts thankfully without the tiresome jumpscares, a little too graphic for some, but the movie delivered in the murder scenes. That's a plus these days and you don't have to wait for it either. I initially thought the actors were playing under standard, but they are subtle to a point that is either frustrating or fulfilling to the viewer. They play better than most reviews are saying. Not Oscar performance but not horrible either. The direction is to blame for this strange mixture of relaxed ambience in a highly intense horror story. Yes predictable, yes the script was full of cliches, yes the ending was highly improbable, show me a movie in the streaming productions that are significantly better. But at least it wasn't boring, the worst crime of all to the audience. On a rainy afternoon with hot chocolate on the sofa, this movie is okay entertainment.

Truly disappointing script
randahl-935-2888113 November 2023
This movie is beautifully filmed with good locations, great lighting, well chosen locations, and more. Many of the actors play quite well, but the script leaves a lot to be desired.

The characters have depth, and that great, but the script is extremely depressive and there is zero humor to balance it out. I do not mind dark moods in a movie, but the themes in this movie are like a bottomless pit of sadness.

Overall, I would have rated this 6/10, but the film is extremely violent almost as if the writer is more interested in shocking the audience than to deliver a good story. And near the end, the script falls apart, the story looses realism and everything just stops making sense.

Amateur movie crammed with clichees
michaeldamgaardmoller3 November 2023
WOW what a bad movie! We had only seen a few minutes, when the acting (or lack of) began to stand out like a sour thumb.

Apparently the lead character (Julie Ølgaard) act, direct , produce and write this film. I think she most definitely should have given some of those tasks to other, more competent people.

The acting is beyond poor, even with a cast where i KNOW that several of the actors are seasoned, and normally good actors, that fail miserably in this story.

All the plotpoints are clichees, that we have seen in countless other (and quite better films).

There are no suspense and as a viewer you dont relate to any of the characters. I would higly recommend you skip this film as i frankly think it is a waste of time.

Good solid serial killer/detective movie
jimaahansen8 June 2023
Great cast and acting... I really liked the movie. Some great surprising scenes. I just wished, that the movie was longer. It was rather short time for exploring the plots, character development and story. Som3how shortened a little too much. Again, It was good as a movie, but I think it could have been GREAT as a series(Really Great), as there was so many unexplored opportunities. So if the director and producer reads this, then please make a series out of it. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed the movie. It can be recommended to watch it, if you like serial killer stories/movies/series. Would have given a better score, than 7, if the movie was longer.

Cliché-riddled,
Simonsayskitkat3 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is hot garbage. Like someone else already said, it seems like this was written by an AI fed with the plot from every single American made-for-TV thriller / crime drama. Clichès stand in line and the plot is so predictable, that the only thing getting killed off in this movie that you actually care about, is suspense.

The script is beyond bad, and admittedly the actors don't have a lot to work with. That does not however excuse the excruciatingly bad performance of each and every person on screen. Lines are delivered with the intensity of a wooden log, and every single scene gives the impression that this was shot in week by film school students. All, but a few of the actors in the movie have performed at a much higher level in other movies. I'm guessing this was for the paycheck rather than the CV.

It really grinds my gears that something like this is even remotely associated with Danish movie making. Whoever is behind this pile of stink, should feel bad. Like really bad to the point that a public apology is in order.

Avoid at all cost, if you value the precious time you have on this planet.

Spoiler: There are tons of questionable things when it comes to the script, but the ending has to taken the cake. How on earth, did the mother of Ludwig, manage to kidnap no less than three adults, tie them up and bring them back to the home for young women, leave them to go get Laura, come back and have them all still be there?... absolutely unbelievable. Also, the killing of detective Jesper's wife was purely for shock effect. Considering the rest of the plot it made absolutely no sense. And why would Laura shoot herself in the stomach, when she could've just reached around and shot crazy lady directly. So many questions.

Stupid mistakes ruined the movie!
pcxnxmds11 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The plot was ok, but a few small things ruined the whole movie. I've never understood that people take the trouble to shoot a movie, but don't bother to pay attention to the details. Examples of silly scenes in the movie: why doesn't anyone make a hole in the plastic bag that the killer uses to suffocate them? Why in the final scene the three people just wait for their fate and don't run away even though no one is watching them? Why doesn't the main character at the end just simply turn around and shoot the perpetrator?

In real life no one would act so stupidly. Don't the makers of the movie even bother to think about reality? Is the director's only goal to get a spectacular scene even at the expense of credibility?

Suspenseful and well written thriller
martinpersson9721 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This incredible drama thriller, by a great director, is yet another testament of the capabilities of the so-called "nordic noir" genre, and a very tightly written and suspenseful one.

The actors all do an incredible job, conveying the complexities beautifully and gracefully. The script is raw, emotional and ever exciting. Expertly paced, for sure.

The cinematography, cutting and editing is great, and the film is overall very nicely put together, very beautiful.

All around, a great, highly suspenseful and all around grear crime thriller, that I would definitely recommend. Give it a watch for sure!

Unrealistic and bad acting.
desperil29 July 2023
This is bad. This is really bad.

This movie wants so much and achives so very, very little.

This is two hours I Will never get back... The movie contains so many cliches and a very thin storyline.

So many mistakes and stereotypes in one movie is unbelieveble.

The movie reminds me of a teen-b-film-movie-project-gone-wrong. And it is written by a ameteur-gamer and did not Seem like a 2023- movie at all.

The things that happens in this story is Way unrealistic and would never appear in real police og FBI investigation.

Do not waste your life on this horrible and bad movie.

Just don't..... ..

Amature night
bork-1229 July 2023
Terrible, unrealistic story. So full of IT mistakes, and seems to desperately cram every possible tech word into the scenes.

We ended up laughing in some of the scenes due to this. I'm sure that's not the intention of the film makers.

Unprofessional police behaviour. Basic police investigation skipped.

It is clear for everyone the main character has issues, and should not come back to work. Yet, her colleague and boss both accept her zoning out and also break the law with hacking into systems illegally.

Very disappointing, where Danish thrillers normally is very smart and clever - this just fails on every level.

What happened?
kraenzmer21 November 2023
Quite ok until about 10-15 from the end where the writer must have suffered from loss of thinking capacity! Now that I think about it there were signs already from the start that showed that there was a severe lack of logic and knowledge about police work in general. Also, it was unnecessarily brutal and to some extent repetitive in this respect. Further, the definition of an angel maker is totally different from how this film is presenting the meaning of that expression, I.e., it is a misleading title. The characters were typical stereotypes comprising a computer geek and a mentally unstable police!

Investment that turned out a huge loss
OJT1 November 2023
We're used to many good movies from Denmark, but if you believe all Danish movies are good, i can assure you and comfort you; they ren't!

There just as many stupid and awful Danish movies as in other countries, we just don't very often get to see them.

But now we have got such streaming offers like Netflix and Amazon Prime, so every little nasty and horrendous movie gets big distribution.

This movie has an OK script until you realize it's over the top stupid. The last part of the movie goes fast downhill. And you are left thinking WTF!?

You won't miss anything avoiding this, maybe just an annoyingly bad movie and - you'll also lose the faith that all Danish movies are good. Well, you were wrog.

Some ingenuous comments from anti-abortionist(s) it seems
tjboyd0027 March 2024
Find this movie refreshingly thoughtful, not the Hollywood mega action superhero shlock, very good detective mystery. It is realistic for a difficult subject. There is some gruesome scenes I skipped over, but certainly does not let the viewer remain detached from the messy subject. I believe the repressed feeling of the main characters is a realistic response to their tangled lives and the emotional strain involved in trying to remain functional human beings. I believe that the flat affect of the actors are intentional in the script and direction, and completely appropriate. This is not an action movie where I would expect over the top hyper emotions. This is one about inner conflicts and emotional and moral ambiguity and how one can deal with reality, that the world is not a place of the 100% righteous and 100% evil, but that we have them both within ourselves and need to deal in life with situations that are not clear cut good and bad, but a combination of both.

I love the.

This film does not cause anything, a bloody canvas without a drawing
Democrit9 November 2023
The actors perform their roles perfectly, but they have nothing to perform: all the characters are devoid of character and represent ordinary people, the director does not reveal them. There is no conflict, the heroine's family problems are almost invisible. The film is a small work without any special plot twists, which does not arouse interest.

There is nothing in the picture except the presence of a maniac and well-shot scenes. Hallucinations of the main character are rare and do not carry an explicit meaning.

The film does not evoke an emotional response from the viewer, except, perhaps, the desire to finish watching it.

There are authors who, being ignorant, create films that evoke various emotions in the audience, but this film does not make any emotional impression - it's a waste of time! I don't remember a single movie that didn't have real feelings!

I couldn't watch this movie to the end.

Worst movie I've seen in years
sqyykh22 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This is bad. Really bad. Unrealistic, bad acting and horrible storylines. About 20 minutes in I considered shutting it off which I should have done cause it only gets worse.

As an example, the main character is a police officer but also an extremely gifted IT specialist that can hack the most guarded IT system in Denmark in about 5 minutes - while she doesn't sleep because of PTSD.

The plot is full of obstacles that continually gets ignored and vanish 10 seconds later without explanation. Like when the whole police station's network is unplugged because the killer also is a very intelligent IT guy (of course) but seconds later the main character is chatting with him online. Dear lord...

Wow, that was a bad one
js-3076418 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Let me start by saying I actually saw the whole movie and that is the only reason I'm giving it two stars. I sometimes just quit, but they had me thinking along the way; hey this might be very interesting.

But the acting (and directing) was of another planet. And not a good one. It was absolutely cringeworthy. Not believable in any scenes at all.

The script was loaded with stupidities like: How are two people - one of them not even close to being fit for police work and the other quite a helpless dude - left working on a case with a mass murderer on the lose? Why aren't they backed up by a ton of police people when they find out where the murderer is? Two people on the mass murderer case has to be enough, right?

And how does the murderers skinny mum 1) capture three grown ups in three different places - one of them a police man - 2) carry them all into a car or a truck, 3) carry them out nicely and place them on the ground outside the crowded facility she is running, not tied to anything, and 4) have them stay there while she picks up one more victim? She has to be gone for at least an hour, but still they just sit there on their knees waiting to get killed or whatver else they might suspect could happen.

Are we sure no one sees them there? The women inside has a tendency to look out the window a lot in the other scenes, but not while all this is going on. In the final scene we even see a person in the back ground moving along. I thought: it must be a person about to enter the scene, but no, it was just an amateur film shoot with a Director not yelling "cut, cut, cut. Please remove the person at the back and let's go again". At least that person could have heard or seen them for the hour (or whatever) the murderers mum was gone.

And why the f... is the main character not just trying to shoot the mum when she is handed the gun? She has at least two bullets. Why should herself instead of just the killer? There's a fair chance she knows nothing about whether the bullet would go all the way through herself. If she knew a lot about the particular gun she is handed and is aware of exactly the bullet it's loaded with, she probably would be a good shooter, and had she been a good shooter, she would have killed the mum almost instantly without shooting herself. There's plenty of opportunity.

And what about the revealing of the killer? I was guessing along: "could it be the husband? No, because he is dark skinned and the murderer is visibly caucasian. Could it be the medical examiner? No, he is a little too old - on the videos he sends in the murderer appears younger by his moves and the shape of his body. And so on.... " I was in the dark - we never met the murderer in civil (or any other instance without the mask) untill he was outed.

The killer calls the main character "Englemager" in the scene where he gets shot, so why the hell doesn't he shoot her in the scene where he shoots the third victim and "Englemager"? Stupid is, stupid does, I suppose.

I'm sure there are a lot more plot holes, but this has to do it. Don't waste your time on this. The only positive thing probably is that the movie has the usual "glittery" sort of Netflix look to it. I don't know if that is actually enough for anybody, but the photographer's and the color grader is not to blame.

Riddled with irritating mistakes and plotholes
Xebor24 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It starts well enough, but during the opening scene already we as an audience start asking questions. Like why don't the victims tear a hole in the plastic bag over their heads? And when the killer stands with a cell phone trigger threatening to blow the bomb, why doesn't the protagonist or the sidekick just shoot the cell phone? And at the end, how did the killer's mother catch and tie up both the sidekick policeman, the husband, the policeman's pregnant girlfriend/wife, and the protagonist? And why didn't the protagonist just turn around and shoot the mother, she obviously is an extremely good shot (she shot the killer right in the forehead).

Overall a very entertaining movie that I would normally give a 7, or even an 8/10, but these obvious mistakes/plotholes takes it down for me.

So disappointed
Toneklang17 November 2023
I rarely see a Danish movies these days, but then I get persuaded as this one was trending on Netflix. 20 minutes in I hate the script, I hate the actors, I hate the plot. I'm so disappointed that this garbage gets through editing, reviews and post without anybody saying 'stop'.

There is not a single moment in the story where you feel the characters are real humans, having real emotions. There's not a single moment in the story where you feel this is something that could have happened in the real world, anywhere in the world for that matter.

My unasked for recommendation for the director/writer would be to spend more time on getting details about how people interact, relationships and emotions, how police work, how computers work, how dialogue works, how acting for that sake works, and less on how to show explicit strangulation scenes and bondage fetish - which adds nothing to the drama, but only seems like either a fetish or a pathetic attempt to be shocking.

If you love happy endings, this movies IS NOT FOR YOU
itriatay9959 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I was very skeptic to watch Englemageren because of the low votes but I noticed that the haters of this movie are the ones that love happy endings. The acting is great and the story is awesome. The killer's Modus Operandi is clear and he does not target other people that does not fit into his victim profile. For that reason, many people critiziced the movie because the killer did not act as they thought that he would. At the same time, the ending is not an happy ending so many people did not like this as well. The main story line can also annoy many people who have issues with the main message in this movie because of their political views. In short, give it a try and avoid the low votes because they are political.
