I agree that this episode it's basically a filler but it was sort of funny, the humor is spot on, the ending made me laugh so hard!

The Burning Beekeeper (#7.15)
ComedyFan201029 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I don't get the hate for this episode. It sure isn't my favorite and considering the standards of How I Met Your Mother pretty low, yet according to television standards it is above the average of what one usually sees.

I like the idea of going through the same time,, just showing it in different rooms and let us see more and more about what happened. The problem is that with a lot of those things one doesn't really care what happened. I didn't care too much about who ate Mr. Cootes spring rolls for example. And it ends in a pretty weird way. What about it made Mr. Cootes so happy.

Some episodes and movies, I'll scrutinize...
jpapanone14 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
But others, it comes down to....was I entertained?

Was it fun...or funny...or enjoyable.

This one got me.

I am like another reviewer. I don't have hate for the show...and I don't think the show is in the top echelon of shows. It ain't Seinfeld or Sunny or Arrested Development.

I don't even think it's Frasier. Better than a show like Wings...maybe in the Will and Grace area. Meaning...there are a lot of flaws and annoyances...but a lot of bright spots too. And I think the ratio for the most part was more good than bad...or enough good that one could ignore the bad.

Some focus on the problems and miss some absolute gold.

There were just things here that hit me.

I like Chris Elliot.

I really like Martin Short.

So...unless it's really bad, I'm probably gonna like it.

Some things I liked about the episode... (Not Cobie/Robyn. She's horrible. Not sure what's worse...the actress or the character. Both are terrible.)

I heard there's talk of an inbound Gouda.

The use of Burnin' for you

I love the Sliding Doors episodes. Frasier did one... I'm trying to think of other shows that did the alternative retelling.

Of the same plot. I'm drawing a blank right now. I'd say Friends...but that was really more of the...one that could have been in the past, so maybe that is sort of this but not quite.

I like relaxed, drinking, feeling good Marshall.

Young man...are you suggesting fisticuffs!?

I do need to intercept those asteroids (or was it torpedoes?)

Point me in the direction of this scoundrel.

In case I didn't make it clear. Robin...is...awful. Colbie...is...awful.

Absolutely ruins anything she's in.

Why HIMYM, why?
SLionsCricketreviews26 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I must make one thing perfectly clear: I am not a HIMYM advocate. There are parts I enjoy and parts that I cannot stand. Aside from one or two fantastic episodes since the second season, HIMYM seems to be dragging along with so little energy or wit. So, when I saw the surprisingly low IMDb rating for this episode, I feared the worst. Truth be told, the episode isn't terrible. Neither is it anything special.

Why does HIMYM continue to delay the story of The Mother? Most of the events do not have any significance whatsoever to the mother, and Ted meeting her. This episode is a perfect example of an episode that needs not be there, especially considering how much of this show has not been about the Mother.

A lot of the dialogue is dry, and a lot of the performances are anything but ordinary. Neil Patrick Harris (NPH) does manage to find some charisma that is missing from the rest of the cast as he continuously delivers wonderful performances. This episode is no exception for NPH

The story with the bees is not funny, nor is the story with Marshall's new and FAR more annoying boss, Cootes. Lily's dad is now becoming extremely irritating and the show seems to not be able to find anything engaging. Such a pity seeing as how this season has produced two excellent episodes in "Ducky Tie" and "Symphony of Illumination" - two episodes that wonderfully combined the dramatic and the comedic.

HIMYM simply lingers on, almost as though it has no purpose to exist.

A Counterpoint
erikig31 January 2016
I personally enjoyed this episode when I re-watched it.

It was nicely written and it was fun to watch the actors hit their marks and the different sub-plots play out in the three rooms. As the episode progressed a number of mini-mysteries cropped up: How could such a well planned party fall apart in just 5 minutes? Who is in the bee- suit if it isn't Lily's father? Who screamed in the other room and why? What is bothering Ted and why is he so aggressive toward Cootes? Why did Lily drop the wheel of cheese and stomp on it after being so enthusiastic about it only a few minutes earlier?

In closing, I didn't think there was a need for every episode in a 9 season sitcom to complete the story of meeting the mother and as far as useless situation comedy distractions go, this was a pretty good one. I only wish Martin Short had been in more episodes of the show.

This episode gets a 9/10 from me.

Possibly The Worst Episode Of The Show
slightlymad2210 February 2015
Is "How I Met Your Mother" running out of steam and ideas?? It's a possibility as this may possibly be the worst episode I've ever seen of the show.

Plot On A Paragraph: Lily and Marshall throw a housewarming party, where Ted nearly comes to blows with Marshall's boss, and Barney hits on a divorcée neighbour.

Chris Elliot is a distraction as Micky Lily's Dad, he is simply too recognisable to me, and every time I see him, he takes me out of the show.

Normally any episode that features the brilliant Neil Patrick Harris as Barney Stinson heavily (and he does have a fair amount of screen time here) automatically raises the quality of the episode. Sadly this is not the case here, as while he always raises a smile, his storyline is silly and a bit disappointing like the full episode.

I've watched this whole show through and through over 50 times.

Its difficult for a show to find new ideas when you're 150 episodes in with the same characters and settings. This episode tries to change it up a bit. With interesting side characters like Mr. Kuntz and Mickie. Its a nice introduction to the starting of the end of the show with the setting of the new house and clear desires starting to show. I love a good bottle episode and the multiple points of view and references to previous episodes It's a fun break from the emotional drama that had previously unfolded.

Probably The Worst Episode So Far ...
rebecky1419 March 2012
I, like many other people on IMDb, am a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother. I've been a fan ever since the show started, back in 2005, when I was just eight. I've always loved the blend of humour and sarcasm as well as the amazing characters. Barney has pretty much become close to my favourite character in any TV series or movie. The show's always been consistently great as well.

So it was a mega disappointment to see this episode. I'm not sure what went wrong, but it was very disjointed, like someone had done a bad editing job. The plot was all over the place and pretty bad. And I barely laughed at all, which is a rare thing for me.

It's not just this episode though. How I Met Your Mother has been decreasing in quality as of late, and my guess is that it's because the show has now reached it's seventh season. It's started to become less about the actual story of how Ted met their mother and more about random things that don't tie into the plot at all!

The show is slowly but steadily running out of laughs and good plot points as well. In the first couple of seasons, the humour was brilliant, the stories great and even the slightly corny sentimental sum-up at the end of each episode was still nice. Now, everything feels rushed and stale, and this episode is a perfect example of that.

How I Met Your Mother is getting old fast. As a loyal fan, I'll keep watching, but I really hope it gets better soon.

They are totally losing it... :(
petercms7 February 2012
This episode truly was a low-point, there was simply nothing, and really nothing funny in there. I wish I could say something better, because I love this series, but this season is simply abysmal as it is. It lost punch and speed a while back already. Too bad!! And this episode was simply bad, really bad... They threw a whole bunch of things together, yet it didn't gel, nor was it funny. The guidelines require me to write at least ten lines, so I will keep writing, but the summary is simply: not funny! Dear writers, you've given us some hilarious episodes, I've been crying of laughter before, so what happened?

What is going on?
yau2019 February 2012
How I met your mother was simply breath-taking when it first started, and the way its story line always summed up together has always natural and fitted the bill as a sit-com. But what all the previous reviews mention is true: it is abysmal and what comes together doesn't make it funny anymore, the Barney humor has exhausted out and I only watch it because I, like other HIMYM fans, am loyal.

The entire 7th season is dull and completely unfunny. The humor has dried off and even its sarcasm doesn't have any effects on me. Every episode from the beginning is only built around something which is irrelevant to the main plot of the show. HIMYM needs to step up its game and focus on what actually matters. I get one or two episodes can sometimes stray off for fun but the entire season? This show needs to get back to the main point of the show, how did Ted meet the mother of his children.

As a loyal audience (I have re-watched dozens of episodes from previous seasons and still enjoy them!), I am really hoping that this show gets back on track on its feet and finally have some significant development to the main characters and Ted's wife and stop making episodes that doesn't have any progression at all per se. With the continuous dullness this show is having it will eventually fall out of a category that I will even bother coping on, and I'm sure I speak not only for myself. We need relevant progression!

Another boring episode. Very disappointing.
renuka-ckgf8 February 2012
I would have rated this episode 2 out of 10. But, considering that this sit-com has been my favorite of all time, I feel truly sad saying that this episode is the most abysmal one in the entire series so far.

'The Burning Beekeeper' was so boring and the 'humor' so hackneyed that I sat through the episode solely because I am loyal to this series. The Barney- humor has been used to exhaustion, and especially in the seventh season, his character remains only a supporting character. We could do with some more Barney. No, we could do with a lot more Barney!

I have seen the first five seasons almost a dozen times each, and none of their episodes would bore me at all even if I had to watch them again! Even the sixth season ain't too bad. But the seventh season has seen a disappointing decline in quality- I can barely watch each episode once.

If the writers do not have awesome new ideas or something really interesting for the upcoming episodes, they should quickly wrap up the story, and bring the elusive 'mother' to light soon before watchers lose their interest completely.

Disappointing episode
joana-antunes7 February 2012
After waiting for so long for this episode it is not funny at all. I am really disappointed with this. Hope it gets better for the next ones because seriously not even Barney was funny...it's like the previous reviewer said - it's just a bunch of things added together in a weird but not funny way. Lots of things that happen on the episode end up not having a specific context or reason for happening...it's just like throw potentially funny things together and see what happens. There's something missing from this one, hoping that the next one will be better...can't wait to see it. All the episodes were fine so far so I'm guessing that something went wrong with this specific one. Thanks for reading!

what is wrong with season 7
silvalawrence9 February 2012
In my very own opinion, chris elliott and kal penn did a fantastic job of SCREWING this season up. every time i see chris elliott it always reminds of that freakin' character from there's something about mary. he's sooo annoying. and as for kal penn he's just like a stick doesn't do much just there for no purpose at all. c'mon bays & thomas. i know you guys can do better than this! I've seen season 1-6 a hundred dozen times already and it never fails to impress but this, I say there are some bright spots (episodes: s7e10,s7e14 take note this episodes doesn't have those two people i was mentioning about.) this new season is slowly becoming an epic failure. PLEASE COMPOSE YOURSELVES BAYS AND THOMAS, AND GO BACK TO YOUR ROOTS before its too late.

A really disappointing episode that doesn't do much for viewers.
antibritspears28 February 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This season has been my least favorite so far. It feels as though the writers are running out of steam, or maybe they've backed themselves into a corner because of all the hints and facts they've dropped so far. HIMYM in the past has been really brilliant about presenting plot twists really well. Even episodes that don't go the way I would like (break-ups with characters I liked, fights between friends, etc) are redeeming in that they told the story beautifully. But this episode was the worst in a season of disappointments. I was surprised when the credits started rolling because nothing had happened. Absolutely no development took place -- everything we saw at the party has happened before. The viewers could literally have skipped this episode and it wouldn't have mattered the next week. We learned nothing, except that we shouldn't get our hopes up anymore. We watch this show because we love it, and we've grown with the characters, and we've invested our interest over the last six years. Please do your audience a favor and give us something substantial in the future, something that will be worth our time. I'm hoping the writers have something brilliant planned for us and this episode will become incredible in hindsight, but so far it just doesn't do anything for me.
