Good jokes but it could be better.

I didn't know Byron Bowers but stand-up comedies is an ideal genre to discover new comedians. His stand-up comedy is a bit different than others, and that was not necessarily a better thing. I thought the introduction wasn't great, not promising for the rest of the show. I wouldn't have added that to his show to be honest. The venue was a boxing ring, not really an easy place to pull off a good show but he managed. Don't think I didn't enjoy his show because there were some serious good jokes, certainly towards the end, but sometimes he just talked too much about things that didn't fit a good stand-up comedy. Just a bit too long at times to bring a joke or punchline. If he would just stick to his jokes I think he could bring a great funny hour, because he clearly has a dirty sense of humour.

First, that's a tough venue to play, small and intimate and stacked with friends/celebrities. Secondly, dude's third eye is wide open. The way he switches gears between punchlines and serious material is what makes standup such a high art form. Sure, some jokes didn't land as well as they could have, but the incisive insight more than made up for it. He didn't pull any punches, humbling himself by baring his soul and in the process he reached deep into ours. Quite the testimonial for mushrooms as medicine. This set was inspired, if only the rest of us could muster that level of intestinal fortitude.
