Thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Lots of interesting characters and intertwining stories. Ultimately I found the relationship with the mother and stepdaughter so tragic and touching and this is what I liked most about this story. Tragically true feelings and communication happens after the death. So sad :(
On another note my favourite character was the mafia guy who for all his seemingly scary aura does not actually really hurt anyone and I loved his comical interaction with the mum at the end.

Murder mystery and social commentary
Leofwine_draca25 March 2023
THE NEIGHBOURS is another engaging murder mystery/crime thriller from South Korea, this time based on a popular web cartoon. As usual for this country, it's layered with social commentary like many others in this genre, looking at people's willingness to turn a blind eye to conflict in order to lead a quiet life. The film is quite unusual in that we don't get one lead but rather a small community of different characters, all of whom have very different and intriguing back stories. It takes a while to get going and is slow at times, and there are some annoying stylistic choices, like having one actress playing multiple roles. But it all comes together for a highly satisfying climax, and Ma Dong-seok shines in a star-making role.
Good underlying message with thrill and fun.

I have also seen(read) the web comic which this film is based on. This film is a bit different in a way that it reveals who the murderer is from the beginning of the film. Although there isn't much time to build the characters up, each character is unique in his/her way (in other words, you won't have to worry about mixing up the characters). Actors and actresses did a fantastic job of acting out specific character. From times this film is very suspenseful, and in other instances, it is quite funny. This film has got me ponder about trust, and communications among people. Also, people are so hesitant about making the right decision. When someone's life is at stake, we must do everything to help. In common sense, it is right to notify the police when someone raises suspicion (of possible murder). There could have been a lot less victims had people taken actions. In conclusion, i recommend this film to everyone. It, however, would help making more sense if people read/see the web comic first.

Rubbish

Dong Seok Ma must have regretted being any part of this nonsense film. Which school finishes that late that the kids get home at 10pm ? Everyone knows who the killer is and says nil
The killer is mopping up a pool of blood in one scene and a neighbour simply walsk past him in the communal area.
Stupid film that makes no sense. Maybe it's an unfunny comedy
