Sadly Devoid of Substance
dani-korkegi3 August 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Most of the 'facts' of this movie strained credulity to its limits. From the bad guy, 3 weeks from his execution, being summarily released pending a new trial to his escape, completely unimpeded, from the hospital at the end. That may have been the true nail in the coffin. Having watched a sub- par movie throughout only to be disappointed as the 'bad guy gets away'. I gave the movie a 3 instead of 1 because I was somehow able to gut through the entire thing just waiting for something better. Alas, that was not to be and was like salt in the wound to have it end as it did. I'm afraid I agree with the reviewer who suggested that this movie would be best suited to those with below-average IQs.

Perfectly dreadful
tink3606 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know where to begin with how bad this film was. To start with, the first thing that should have occurred to her was that the man she had put away, who was supposedly on death row & had tried to kill her in the past - had somehow got out of jail. She never mentioned this fact to the police. The most glaring mistake - not notifying her per duty to warn - was explained at the end of the film when * spoiler alert* the clients attorney turned out to be his crime partner. That one twist in the plot was interesting, and not predictable. Which is why the film got 2 stars, although I'm not sure if zero stars is possible to assign.

Second spoiler - Cruz escaping from the hospital after killing the doctor. I work in a hospital that serves the prison population. You get a prisoner patient in, even one who is in county jail for a misdemeanor - he has an armed guard at his bedside 24/7. As well as being in some sort of shackles or restraints. Many wizened old prisoners who look like they could not open their milk carton unassisted have 2 guards sitting at the bedside at all times. So ANY prisoner approaching badass would be guarded by at least 2 armed prison guards and be in restraints. The guards are present to prevent an escape and also to protect the staff (or to prevent an attack on the prisoner from angry family, etc). Those that have just been arrested & brought to the hospital prior to charging due to health concerns are guarded by police officers.

Nancy Grace seems to be someone who has enough experience around criminals & crime scenes to have done better with the credibility. And as for the present profession of the ex-prosecutor - that was not credible to me either. What therapist will let their client off when they offer a half hearted "I'll try" by doing a head tilt and responding "That's all you can do!" with a smile? As someone who has sat through a few therapy sessions I can tell you that's not normal. "Don't try, just do it" now that's normal. I did not take that as poor acting, just a limitation of the script.

Where the acting from the pretty blond ex prosecutor fell short - there is no way I could see her as a tough prosecutor and someone who could fight a murder attempt from a serial killer. And what nimrod ties a victim up while leaving their hands free so they can get their jewels squeezed? She never came across as someone who could keep control of a classroom of middle school rowdies, let alone prosecute a case

Horribly Bad - I give specific examples, but I don't tell the movie
layitdown334 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was horribly bad. Story line was predictable and the sketchy police work was a major disappointment. I like Nancy, but I would suspect that the court proceedings and the way the police conducted their investigations would mirror real life police work more.

Prime Example: Hailey was arrested, because a pen was found at the crime scene. Especially when it was clear that her office had been broken into and vandalized. Hailey also waited to a later time to share with the detective that the pen was lost. Who does that? Especially when you are being falsely accused of murder. That is information you would want to be told right away.

Next example - Hailey tells her receptionist to run and go to the police, why not call the police and have them come to you.

Finally, (although I have about 5+ more, I will let you the viewers decide on your own). Criminals are given medical attention in specific places WITH police detail because they are dangerous. Cruz was not supervised and was able to kill and escape again. Sketchy.. Especially with him being a serial killer and was up for death row.

No, Jennie, no!
candyapplegrey1 September 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I've said this review contains a spoiler but really the title itself does that, given that they start with seven victims … A film that doesn't really need to bother with stuff like realistic characters, plotting or dialogue, presuming that if we're willing to suspend disbelief enough to accept Jennie Garth (yes you know her – Kelly from 'Beverly Hills 90210') as a hotshot lawyer who seamlessly metamorphoses into a successful therapist, we'd pretty much go along with anything. And not wonder (in a physician, heal thyself, kind of way) why Jennie (let's not bother with character names since she doesn't bother to act), intelligent psychiatrist, doesn't wean herself off the anxiety pills she's been on since her last case but instead has to continually reach for them in a panic at the slightest sound.

Sometimes I think that film as a whole would be immeasurably improved if there were a veto against flashbacks. Jennie obviously agrees with me. Forced to endure acting a series of flashbacks of being throttled, she reasons that it's not worth wasting too much effort on these, opting not to bother to change her expression when strangled. She simply looks a little peeved, like she might have to (but maybe not) miss a hair appointment. She greets most of the events in the movie with this look of mild annoyance and a hair toss. Inexplicably antagonistic to the police, she accuses them of suspecting her of the murder although they haven't shown any sign of this and appear completely bemused by her attitude.

I soon find myself wishing that the serial killer of the seven women would make Jennie his eighth victim (for crimes against acting although I have to hold the director partly responsible) granting us a merciful release from the rest of the movie – another three victims' long (we would have to alter the title to 'The Eighth Victim') and Jennie would not have to spout such lines as 'I think he's playing some sick game with me'. She tries to call the police, saying it's a matter of 'life or death'. Unfortunately, her lack of emphasis means it comes across more like a matter of 'deep pan or thin crust' so she doesn't quite get the response she wants.

With the killer eventually confessing to his crimes in detail, as they almost always do in these movies, Jennie symbolically chucks her tablets away, even though the last time he was caught and in jail, she took them all the time. Where's the logic?

Anyway, hope springs eternal that someone out there will like this garbage so be very afraid, the door has been left open for a sequel. After seeing this though, you'll want to slam it shut. Otherwise – 'The Twelfth Victim' anyone?

Worse than the worst Lifetime stinker movie!!
dancinqueen4726 May 2013
Thinking about it, I don't know why I gave this three stars - it barely deserved one!

It was truly the worst of the worst Lifetime or LMN movies ever made. That's saying a lot, because a whole lot of them are pretty bad. I watched for about 50 minutes and then decided this was only going downhill, with no hope of redemption, so I gave up on it.

I didn't watch 90210, so I am not familiar with Jennie Garth, but if this performance is indicative of the quality of her acting she definitely needs to find a job that's a better match to her skills. Acting certainly isn't one of them!

I also don't watch Nancy Grace much, but if this story is indicative of her writing skill, and it appears to be, well...Nancy, give up writing, right now cause it's absolutely not working for you!

So much of this was so pathetic and nonsensical. One of the more ridiculous things was when Jennie asked the the detective about his leads. He said they had been considering several different leads. She then became overly defensive and accused him of accusing her of being the murderer (which he very certainly had not)! Of course, she shamelessly overacted.

This one was so much worse than the customary Lifetime stinker - it was so amazingly bad that I will never again watch any Lifetime movie.

In my experience, out of 10 movies run on Lifetime and/or Lifetime Movie Network, 2 may be halfway decent, 4 may be pretty bad, 2 may be really, really bad and 2, like this one, are truly an amazing and disrespectful insult to viewers!

I suggest they start showing an on-screen, prior to showing movies: "Warning! This is unsuitable for anyone with an I.Q. exceeding 55."

Ba-bye Lifetime and Lifetime Movie Network!

11th Victim-Enough is Enough, Already ***
edwagreen17 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I would have rated the film an extra 1/2* had it ended when the sadistic killer got what was coming to him.

Interesting story where a District Attorney has to leave her job after nearly being choked in court by the guy she was able to convince a jury had killed seven women.

Our D.A. goes to N.Y. to become a therapist. Amazing all the degrees she has.

Based on a DNA irregularity, our killer is released and heads to N.Y. to commit more mayhem and get even with the prosecutor.

As her patients become victims, the police suspect her and she is eventually arrested. It's hard to fathom that a bulletin wasn't put out when our killer left Atlanta after being released, but told to stay in waiting for a new trial.

After all is said and done, we learn of another agenda that our eager defense attorney had. Just when you finally think that matters have been resolved, our killer, who was wounded, escapes from the hospital and is on the loose again.

The plot is overdrawn.

Total Schmutz. This is a must NOT see film
Ed-Shullivan8 March 2015
Forgive me but it was very late and I could not sleep so I stayed up for The Eleventh Victim (which I had taped earlier) and the story line was the most ridiculous and not plausible from the opening scene to the very end. This is supposed to be a suspense film surrounding a serial killer named Clint Burrel Cruise (played by Colin Cunnigham) who captures his female victims, strangles them and then poses their dead bodies in a certain position so that he can paint them on canvas and imitate famous artists by striking a similar pose as the renowned artists works of art.

There is dramatic opera style music throughout the film which was intended to keep the audience in suspense but all it did for me was indicate when something boring and predictable would happen. Of course there is a brilliant and beautiful prosecuting attorney named Hailey Dean (played by Jenny Garth) who puts this serial killer in prison awaiting his death sentence but as the writers of this mess of a made for TV movie would have it the serial killer Cruise is released for a retrial and is free to continue on his murderous ways. There is an ever so slight comparison to the 1986 film Manhunter where the serial killer gets naked down to his skivvies to paint his own body on the canvas just to show how creepy he is but please gag me with a spoon it is by no means suspenseful.

This movie is as predictable as ordering hot buttered popcorn and doing a blind taste test. Who wouldn't know what that taste was? Well in this film, everyone can figure out what is going to happen next. The twist at the end of the film? Gag me with a spoon the second time please.

Don't waste any time on this serial killer film. Instead put a blind fold around your head and try doing the hot buttered popcorn taste test. I assure you that you will have a better time than watching this crap.

My rating is a 1 out of 10. It's a total waste of time.

Garth is a powerhouse
tinydancerface31 January 2024
Garth is a powerhouse! Stellar performance, really flexing her dramatic muscles here!

The writing lacked a certain something..but given what she had to work with, Garth's performance made the film worth watching...Good supporting cast...The character arc felt a bit disjointed...can we please get this girl some better pages!!!! I feel like this storyline has been done...pun intended...to death. Having said that...on the other hand...if done correctly and interestingly enough...you can pull something like this off for a win...for me it was Garth's abilities that saved the day...in the end. Jennie Shrugged!

Serial Murderer haunting an ex DA.
trepessa5 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This by no means is a bad movie. Jennie Garth is a TV actress in a movie from Lifetime. It is a television movie and not a major motion picture that would be shown in theaters. It is meant to entertain only and that is what it does. I don't believe this would appeal to most men because it has a female lead who is strong but haunted by the violence and an incident with a very heinous murderer in court. Most Lifetime and LMN movies are basically geared toward a female audience. I have seen many movies of this type and this one is no worse. I write and I didn't see anything wrong with the plot or the characters. The acting is fine for the parts they are playing. It is actually very straight forward about a psychopathic serial killer who becomes obsessed with getting even with his prosecutor. Now this isn't a new idea but it doesn't need to be. It's how it is portrayed within the movie. There is no way any movie or novel is likely these days to come up with anything new or improved that hasn't been done one way or another, yet this had a secret that comes out in the end. I like Jennie Garth and she does a good job in the movie as well as the supporting cast. Cunningham is a good villain in this movie and is believably deranged. I think many of the reviewers simply have no expertise in writing, film making or judging acting. Be that as it may, the movie is average, entertaining for a little over an hour. I believe it deserves a better rating than most are giving and it is not a bad film. It all depends on the taste of the individual watching. If you like simple murder mystery psychological thrillers with a pretty straight forward plot you will be entertained by this one.

Horrible
geoffox-766-41846710 March 2013
First of all Jennie Garth is dreadful as a prosecuting attorney. Her tight dresses, overly made up for a blonde (is she really blonde or a dyed job?) A scene when she wakes up in bed in middle of the night and loaded with make up. Can you imagine what her pillow must look like in reality? Garth is not an actress of any depth and hard to believe she is any threat to the escaped rapist/killer. Colin Cunningham as the killer does much better. He's wonderful in this and needs a stronger actress opposite him. I give this a 1 for Cunningham.

The courtroom scene was out of reality also. With the exception of the defense attorney, it seemed phony and forced. I loved it when he took her down in the court. It was gratifying to this viewer to see her get her up pence.

The perfect storm of awful
xhidden9915 February 2015
If Andy Warhol was still alive making intentionally awful movies he'd make this one. Script and executive production by Nancy Grace. Stars Ron Artest and Jenny Garth. Jenny plays a...hold on.....a dumb blonde ex DA who got a serial rapist murderer convicted of 7 or 8 murders and put on death row. But because someone littered once, a random judge grants him a new trial and releases him without bail. He tells his lawyer he's going to kill the DA and lawyer shrugs. So he goes on a psycho killing rampage. The ex DA is now a psychiatrist or something. Maybr she's a man hating 'host'on HLN like Nancy Grace. Not sure. Anyway blondy is blonde, the cops are dumb guidos and psycho killer guy is slightly more violent and crazy than Hannibal Lecter. Maybe Ron Artest will box him like he's in the NBA. By the end I'm sure blondy will defeat evil shr os woman hear her roar. It's not a movie it's a Lifetime Movie.

This Movie Sucked so Bad!!
bbarnette197024 February 2015
I just watched this movie with my wife last night, and I have to say a frontal lobotomy would probably be more enjoyable the suffering through this movie. This is by far the biggest piece of garbage I have ever seen in my life, and that's saying a lot. It's Filled with bad acting, and completely unrealistic scenarios. I have watched some Bad Movies before, but this one is the king of the crap pile, Making me wonder how this movie got out of production..I created an account on here just to rate this crappy movie..The BS in this movie is so deep Adele couldn't roll in it! Do yourself a favor and forget that you even heard about this movie!

Just Awful
marsmii20 September 2016
Jenny Garth is a terrible actress, have never liked her in anything she's been in and she twitches her mouth a lot! It amazes me that she keeps getting parts! Are the directors deaf and blind? So many things wrong with this movie besides the bad acting, except David Lewis was very good! I don't think detectives do the things these ones did and no lawyer would do the stupid things Garth did---like send her office assistant off to the police station knowing she was meeting up with the killer! Wouldn't she keep her safe with her and have the police come to them!! I found myself yelling at the TV and shaking my head with the stupidity of everyone! Do yourself a favour, turn it off immediately.

All fools a mockery of justice system & victim Hailey dumb
lmoss-9686717 April 2024
Hailey was so bad as a victim. She makes poor choices right after another. Was acting all high and mighty . Like she could handle the killer. She endangered her assistant. Sent her out to go to the police station. No! Lock the doors and call detective together with 911 on the line and she had a gun. But no she did not even show the assistant who he really was. Sent her out knowing the killer was out there to kill her assistant. Poor writing.

The system did not notify her of the guys release and no longer death penalty. After he tried to kill her in the court room. Come On!!! Then she acts all cocky with the defense attorney his accomplice.

The guy Cruise gets released until next hearing in CA . Goes to NY and lives in an abandoned warehouse. He fled the state and no APB. A serial killer loose. Good grief !! Poor writing.

Surprise Thriller...
Well Nancy Grace did a fairly keen job of writing this thriller, made for television, with Jeanne Garth in the lead. Nicely woven plot and a few surprises along the way. The killer was a most interesting character that had a taunting, cold and calculated manner which definitely lent fear to this movie in his own, violent, methodical way. I was surprised Jeanne Garth was as good as she was; she usually does touchy-feelin "hallmark" type stuff and this showed her deeper capability to be a believable character, lawyer or therapist as she was. The twist at the end was unexpected but welcomed adding more suspense for sure. Very good movie.
