Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes

Buffalo8 Acquires North America, Europe Rights to Indian Genre-Bender ‘Lord Curzon Ki Haveli’ (Exclusive)
Image
American film and media company Buffalo8 has acquired North America and Europe distribution rights to “Lord Curzon Ki Haveli” (Lord Curzon’s Manor).

The dark comedy thriller, which represents actor-filmmaker Anshuman Jha’s directorial debut, caught the distributor’s attention during its European premiere at Razor Reel Flanders in Belgium, Europe’s leading genre film festival.

Buffalo8, the company behind Spike Lee’s “Rodney King” and Netflix’s “Conversations With a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes,” sees this acquisition as part of its broader strategy to expand its genre footprint into international markets.

“‘Lord Curzon’s Manor’ is a compelling story that bridges cultural and historical narratives with a unique perspective,” said Grady Craig, president of Buffalo8. “This first-time director successfully delivers on a blend of black comedy and thriller genres, which is a rare combination for Indian cinema. We’re excited about the film’s ability to resonate across diverse audiences.

The second installment is titled Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, telling the story of the siblings who killed their parents, José and Kitty Menendez, on the evening of Aug. 20, 1989 in Beverly Hills, California. The murders, investigation, and eventual trial made national news as the brothers accused their father of sexual abuse, adding another layer to the case while people around the country watched on their TVs.

The Murderous True Story Of Rosa Peral And Netflix's Burning Body
Image
The real story surrounding Netflix's latest true crime offering is tailor-made for tabloid fodder. Directed by Jorge Torregrossa and starring Úrsula Corberó ("Money Heist"), "Burning Body" serves as yet another cautionary tale about the tangled web we weave when secret love affairs, ghastly intrigue, and unthinkable acts of violence collide.

Based on one of Spain's most chilling murder cases referred to by the local press as "el Crimen de la Guardia Urbana" (the crime of the Urban Guard), the brutal killing of a police officer caused a media frenzy. On May 4, 2017, the remains of Officer Pedro Rodriguez were found among the ash of a torched automobile that had been completely engulfed in flames. It looked like someone had gone to great lengths to ensure that there was no physical evidence, a clear sign that the person or persons in question knew what they were doing. The only identifying signs...

‘Dahmer,’ ‘Murdaugh’ And ‘Murder’: Emmy Documentary Contenders On A Crime Spree With A Focus On Mischief And Mayhem
Image
Gruesome tales of grisly murder. Horror stories of kids in cults. False confessions and authentic admissions.

True crime has taken over the documentary space, proving a reliable audience attractor for streaming platforms, network and cable channels. While it’s the most popular genre within nonfiction programming broadly speaking, whether that will translate to success with Emmy voters remains an open question. One thing’s for certain: there’s no lack of contenders — twisted tales dripping with blood.

Netflix leads the way with multiple suitors, among them Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes, the grim story of one of America’s most notorious serial killers, built largely around recorded interviews between Dahmer and one of his young defense attorneys in the early 1990s. It’s directed and executive produced by Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning filmmaker Joe Berlinger, one of the leading figures in documentary.

Evan Peters Reveals the Important Reason He Starred in Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story
Image
Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story has already become one of the most popular and controversial series on Netflix. Starring Evan Peters and with Ryan Murphy behind it, the story of the infamous Milwaukee butcher reached a high level of popularity on the streaming platform, to the point that the green light was given to turn it into an anthology focused on different murderers.

Beyond the controversy generated by the theme of the show, Peter received a lot of praise for his performance, even winning several awards, once again demonstrating his acting skills. The actor had already worked with Murphy many times, usually on rather quirky and dark roles. In fact, before taking on the role of Dahmer, he wasn't sure he wanted to continue with those types of characters. However, he changed his mind.

During his participation in The Hollywood Reporter's Drama Actors Roundtable, Peters revealed the reasons why he...

Ryan Murphy Explains Why He Didn’t Reach Out to Jeffrey Dahmer’s Father for Netflix Series
Image
“Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” has been viewed for more than 1 billion hours, but it also came with a great deal of backlash. Many of the victims’ families claimed they were not contacted — a claim that creator Ryan Murphy denies — and some viewers were upset that the focus was more on Jeffrey Dahmer than the victims.

“I was never interested in Jeffrey Dahmer, the monster. I was interested in what made him. I think that the fact that all of the characters in this are seen as true humans makes some people uncomfortable. I understand that and I try not to have an opinion on that,” he tells Variety. “We always tried to center everything on the victims.”

One person that Murphy and “Dahmer” research team — who spent more than three years doing the research around the show — didn’t contact was the killer’s father, Lionel, portrayed...

‘Halloween Ends’ Puts Peacock on Streaming Charts for the First Time
Image
Click here to read the full article.

Peacock made its debut in the Nielsen streaming rankings with the opening of Halloween Ends. Ryan Murphy’s The Watcher opened at No. 1 on the chart, and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power got a bump in the week of its season finale.

Halloween Ends, the 13th in the long-running franchise, was the top feature film — and eighth most watched title overall — for the week of Oct. 10-16. It had 717 million minutes of viewing time in the three days after its Oct. 14 release on Peacock’s premium tiers. It’s the first title from the NBCUniversal streaming service (which is considerably smaller in the United States than the likes of Netflix, HBO Max and Amazon’s Prime Video) to make the Nielsen rankings.

The Watcher racked up 2.36 billion minutes of viewing after its Oct. 13 debut, pushing another Murphy-produced series (Monster:...

Click here to read the full article.

Netflix’s Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story spent a third straight week as the top title on streaming platforms in the United States, though it was down a good amount week to week.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and House of the Dragon, on the other hand, each improved a little as they approached their season finales.

Dahmer gathered 2.35 billion minutes of viewing time in the United States from Oct. 3-9, according to Nielsen’s weekly streaming rankings. That’s a 46 percent drop from the previous week, but the Ryan Murphy-produced series was still far and away the top title of the week.

Another Dahmer-related show, Netflix’s Conversations With a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes, also cracked the top 10 originals list with 522 million minutes of viewing.

The Rings of Power finished second among all series...

Netflix: Every Movie & TV Show Releasing In November 2022
Image
In November 2022, Netflix is welcoming some of this year’s most anticipated releases, such as the newest adventure of a young detective, the triumphant return of a supernatural TV series, season 5 of one of Netflix’s most popular drama TV series, a fantasy adventure movie, a new take on The Addams Family, and a lot more. October saw the arrival of a variety of content, though mostly from the horror genre, with Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, The Midnight Club, Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, and Unsolved Mysteries season 3, along with season 6 of Big Mouth and the documentary Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes.

November won’t see a lot of licensed content, but it will add some interesting titles to the catalog, such as the action movie Oblivion, the drama movie Still Alice, and the biographical action movie Captain Phillips, so all eyes will be on the upcoming original content.

What Netflix's Dahmer Tapes Documentary Adds To Monster's Story
Image
Netflix's Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes covers many details that the TV series Dahmer—Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story misses in the serial killer's story. As the third installment of Netflix's Conversations with a Killer collection, The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes follows the release of The Ted Bundy Tapes in 2019 and The John Wayne Gacy Tapes in 2022. In three episodes, the documentary covers Dahmer's childhood, murder investigations, trial, and eventual death in prison.

Dahmer—Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is just as much a show about Dahmer's victims as it is about Dahmer himself, taking the time and care to contextualize the victims’ stories before Dahmer cut their lives short. In doing so, the dramatized account of Jeffrey Dahmer's life skips over a lot of Dahmer’s personal confessions and the deep-dive into Dahmer's psyche over the duration of his trial. Another reason the writers...

Netflix Isn't Going To Stop Making Jeffrey Dahmer Projects, Huh?
Image
"Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story" was originally slated to be reviewed by /Film upon its September release. However, those plans were canceled after watching the first episode. It felt wrong to analyze and pick apart something that draws out the vicious murders of real-life individuals, especially when looking at it from an objective point of view. While it is important to champion controversial art, there are simply some lines that shouldn't be crossed.

It seems, though, like many other people have no issue crossing those lines. "Monster" currently stands as the third most popular television show on Netflix after spending several weeks in the number one spot. It has inspired a disturbing TikTok challenge (via Indy100) and has even prompted eBay to ban the sale of Halloween costumes of the serial killer (via BuzzFeed News). For a show that claims to be told from the perspective of Dahmer's victims,...

Dahmer overtakes Bridgerton to become Netflix’s second most-watched English-language series
Image
Audiences can’t get enough of Jeffrey Dahmer. Ryan Murphy’s Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story has taken the top spot on Netflix’s weekly streaming ratings once again, racking up 205.33 million hours of viewing time worldwide. This brings the show’s all-time total to 701.37 million hours since its debut last month, making Dahmer the second most-watched English-language series on Netflix.

Related Dahmer series cracks Netflix’s Top 10 most watched list

The second season of Bridgerton previously held the number two ranking with 656.26 million hours over its first 28 days. With over 700 million hours, Dahmer now takes the place of Bridgerton and sits behind the fourth season of Stranger Things, which has 1.35 billion hours viewed. When you factor in Non-English Netflix shows, Dahmer ranks fourth behind Squid Game (1.65 billion) and the final season of Money Heist (792 million), but Dahmer still has 9 days left of its 28 day window, so it could...

‘Dahmer’ Is Now Netflix’s #2 English-Language Series of All Time
Image
With another 205.33 million hours viewed last week, “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” is Netflix’s No. 2 English-language TV series of all time. Now above “Bridgerton” Season 2, “Dahmer” only ranks behind “Stranger Things 4.” Given the very significant gap, things will likely stay that way.

If you think 200-plus million hours of viewing in one week is a lot, it is. But “Dahmer” did a massive 300 million hours the previous week. In its opening week, “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” shocked by delivering the biggest Week 1 results (196.2 million hours viewed) for any Netflix series on record, English-language or otherwise. “Dahmer” debuted on a Wednesday, giving the Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan drama starring Evan Peters a two-day head start on many other Netflix premieres. With some variation, the streaming service typically premieres projects on Fridays.

“Dahmer” has now topped Netflix’s global Top 10 for three weeks in a...

Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes TV Review
Image
Plot: After Jeffrey Dahmer’s arrest, his defence team has the ghoulish task of recording hours of interviews with him as he describes the brutal murders he committed during his reign.

Review: Like so many other people, whenever I see a documentary about serial killers show up on Netflix, I binge it. While I’ve yet to dig into Ryan Murphy’s ultra-popular Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, I did check-out Joe Berlinger’s brutal documentary series, Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes. This is the latest instalment of what I can only assume is an ultra-profitable series for the streamer, with previous instalments focusing on Ted Bundy & John Wayne Gacy.

What makes these docs so disturbing is that they essentially allow the killers to tell their own stories. While Bundy was elusive until the end, Gary and Dahmer were boastful about their kills, relaying them in gruesome detail.

‘I stared into the abyss of evil’: What Joe Berlinger learnt when making Netflix’s new Jeffrey Dahmer documentary
Image
I literally stared into the abyss of evil and saw things most people shouldn’t see.” So Joe Berlinger, the director behind Netflix’s new Jeffrey Dahmer documentary, tells me over Zoom one sunny autumn afternoon. He is bespectacled with a grey beard and an avuncular whiff of Mandy Patinkin about him.

Through those glasses, Berlinger has seen more than his fair share of things most people shouldn’t. Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes, is out this Friday. It comes, very intentionally, two weeks after Ryan Murphy’s controversial dramatisation of events – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, starring Evan Peters – hit the streaming platform. The Dahmer Tapes rounds off a trilogy of serial killer documentaries Berlinger has released over the past three years. His first subject was the most famous – the “charming” murderer, Ted Bundy. Then came John Wayne Gacy, another nightmarish American killer who sometimes dressed...

How did Jeffrey Dahmer die and who is his killer Christopher Scarver?
Image
Netflix’s newest addition to its true crime canon, which has sickened fans and drawn criticism from Whoopi Goldberg, tells the story of one of America’s most notorious serial killers: Jeffrey Dahmer.

Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story stars Mare of Easttown actor Evan Peters as the man also known as the “Milwaukee Cannibal” or the “Milwaukee Monster”, who committed the murder and dismemberment of 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991.

Read our key points to know about the true story behind the show here – and read about how he died in prison, below…

Dahmer’s death

On 28 November, 1994 – just two years after his sentencing – Dahmer was beaten to death by Christopher Scarver, a fellow inmate at the Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage, Wisconsin.

The 34-year-old Dahmer had left his cell to conduct cleaning work, and he was accompanied by Scarver and another inmate, Jesse Anderson. The three men were left...

Jeffrey Dahmer: Production assistant says Netflix series was ‘one of the worst shows I’ve ever worked on’
Dahmer
A production assistant for Netflix’s Jeffrey Dahmer series has said it was “one of the worst shows I’ve ever worked on”.

Since its release last month, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story has attracted controversy.

Dahmer, who is portrayed by Evan Peters, murdered 17 men and boys between the years 1978 and 1991. He was arrested in 1991 and was murdered in prison three years later.

A production assistant who worked on the series, Kim Alsup, has since spoken out against the working conditions on set. She alleges that she was treated “horribly” and experienced subtle forms of racial discrimination.

In a tweet that has since been deleted, as per Indiewire, Alsup wrote: “I worked on this project and I was one of 2 Black people on the crew and they kept calling me her name.

“We both had braids, she was dark skin and 5’10. I’m 5’5. Working on this took everything...

Blonde: Netflix users brand ‘degrading’ JFK scene in Marilyn Monroe film ‘disgusting exploitation’
Image
Netflix users are being left particulary outraged by a “horrifying” scene in new Marilyn Monroe film Blonde.

The controversial new movie from director Andrew Dominik was adapted from Joyce Carol Oates’s fictional book about Monroe, which was released in 2001.

For some time now, the project, which stars Knives Out actor Ana de Armas, has been hyped up as being a shocking watch, with the film being handed an Nc-17 age certificate in the US.

For those in the UK, this is similar to an 18 – but American directors tend to try and edit their films in order to avoid the certificate as, when cinema releases are concerned, it typically equates to less money at the box office.

Many may believe Blonde to be a standard biopic about Monroe, but the opposite is true: due to the source material, the film features several imagined scenes from the Hollywood star’s life,...

It wouldn’t be October on Netflix without a new Mike Flanagan title. Thankfully the Midnight Mass showrunner returns with The Midnight Club on Oct. 7. This series, adapted from a book of the same name, takes place in a hospice for terminally ill teens who have all made a gruesome pact. This series will be followed up by other creepy TV titles like Unsolved Mysteries Vol. 3 on Oct. 18, 28 Days Haunted on Oct. 21, and most importantly: Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities on Oct. 25, which will collect eight terrifying stories from the famed director himself.

The Netflix streaming service is having huge success with the series Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (read our review Here), so the upcoming docuseries Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes is probably going to be a success for them as well. That show will be available to watch as of October 7th, and a trailer for it is now online. You can check it out in the embed above.

Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes is the third of a series of Conversations with a Killer shows, which started with Ted Bundy and continued with John Wayne Gacy. Here’s the information on this one:

When Milwaukee police entered the apartment of 31-year-old Jeffrey Dahmer in 1991, they weren’t prepared for what they’d find. From a freezer full of human heads to decomposing body parts, the discovery amounted to the grisly personal museum of a sadistic killer.

Rita Isbell, a family member of one of Jeffrey Dahmer’s victims who is portrayed in the new Netflix series about the serial killer, is speaking out about Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.

Isbell’s brother, Errol Lindsey, was murdered at age 19 by Dahmer. She gave a victim impact statement during Dahmer’s 1992 sentencing, when the killer was given 15 consecutive life sentences. The emotional moment is re-created in the Ryan Murphy- and Ian Brennan-created limited series, which topped the streamer’s top 10 list the week of its Sept. 21 release.

“When I saw some of the show, it bothered me, especially when I saw myself — when I saw my name come across the screen and this lady saying verbatim exactly what I said,” wrote Isbell in an essay for Insider. “If I didn’t know any better, I would’ve thought it was me.

Relatives of Jeffrey Dahmer Victim Call Ryan Murphy Netflix Series ‘Retraumatizing’
Jeffrey Dahmer
The sister and cousin of one of Jeffrey Dahmer’s victims are blasting Ryan Murphy’s “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” which stars Evan Peters as the serial killer, for “retraumatizing” them and never even notifying them that the Netflix series was in the works.

Eric Perry, a cousin of Dahmer victim Errol Lindsey, tweeted last week, “I’m not telling anyone what to watch, I know true crime media is huge [right now], but if you’re actually curious about the victims, my family (the Isbell’s) are pissed about this show. It’s retraumatizing over and over again, and for what? How many movies/shows/documentaries do we need?,” asked. He quote tweeted side-by-side videos of Errol’s sister Rita Isbell in court in 1992 next to the actress who plays her in “Monster.”

“Like recreating my cousin having an emotional breakdown in court in the face of the man who...
