Siren: Not much impact
realganesh28 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Movie: 5/10

Pros: 1. The concept of hero taking notes in prison and using those notes to take revenge was fresh.

This could have been explored a bit more instead of flashbacks and commercial fights (one guy fighting 10 goons)

2. Yogi and Ravi's comedy combo was good.

Cons: 1. Keerthy Suresh did not do a justice for the police role she was given. She didn't felt apt for the role.

2. The daughter role felt unnecessary. The humiliation she goes through in school was not reality. No one treats a fellow student like that. It felt like serial. She never tried to ask/confront her father's point of view. No child is like that.

3. Flashback sequences felt too slow/lagging.

4. Typical commercial scenes such as one guy fighting 10 people could have been avoided. And unnecessary chase scenes could have been avoided.

5. All the songs were felt unnecessary in this movie. None of them were good/apt for the visuals.

6. Caste is cliche. Even more than that hero advising for awareness against caste is cliche. No one in his right mind would advise a guy who believes too much in caste.

7. The hero says that the reason for his parole was to patch up with his daughter which he never does. He did not even force her to hear his side of the story.

8. Anupama role and flashback scenes could have been shown like reels with overlapping story explanation by hero. Why explore emotional bond of husband and wife when audience already know she's gonna die anyway? There's a song for that too.

Siren: Not much impact.

Jayam Ravi losing his niche
Bioscoper20 April 2024
One of the song lyrics brings back the colonial mindset & apologetic nature of minority following crowd. While the direction focussed on pleasing a specific subset of the population , enforcing the evils of caste, creed & religion, it forgot to look at its own.

Overall Jayam Ravi is betting his career on such movies that will drag him down and leave him as a clown who could not see where he was being dragged to. Storyline and screenplay was a slow drag, neither action nor dialogues have made a mark, the repetitive mention of word caste shows the sad ignorant state of the group that worked on this movie.

Decent premise, poor direction
isaacsundaralingam19 February 2024
Anthony Bhagyaraj's "Siren" stars Jayam Ravi as a murder-convict visiting his family on Parole, during when a string of murders begin to happen. Suspicion falls on him and we start to learn more about his past, and his connection to the murders.

It's a pretty decent premise honestly, as it has the bones with which you could craft a compelling movie, but the way it has been handled here is just terrible. The screenplay and the direction all come across extremely amateur and without any focus. The movie is structurally a mess, where the first half has hints of the hero's past; through which we can already piece together most of what might have happened. And when the flashback does eventually roll around (extremely late into the movie too), it feels pointless and adds nothing that we didn't already figure out, and we're left sitting around waiting for it to end. Same goes for the various sub-plots introduced; that with Keerthi Suresh and the character of Ravi's daughter. None of them lead anywhere and to the extent it tries, it feels incredibly rushed. The final 45 minutes of the movie are pure idiocy. Some of the worst irrational decisions ever made on screen, right there in front of you. It's as if the movie ran out of ideas and just went with the first thing they could think of.

But it's not like the movie is without its positives, as it is quite entertaining thanks to the premise, and the tension and suspense is handled rather well. The movie definitely had potential, but unfortunately the best it wanted to settle with was sub-par writing and mindless directing.

You would watch this film even if you thought otherwise.
anonymous-reviewer_20 February 2024
Because,.. I went to a cineplex to watch another film, but couldn't get a show. So, we watched this movie. There was no expectations but somehow it felt engaging and the show was good.

Yogi Babu made the movie more watchable with his comical presence. Keerthy Suresh had a good cop role who could actually use her brain well, but she too faces typical Indian women situation as seniors do not listen to her much.

Anupama was beautiful to watch so was Yuvitha. Both of them have a great career to follow.

Overall the movie is not boring to watch. There is some level of suspense and thankfully no unwanted action sequences.

Another Top Film By Jayam Ravi
HOTSHOT100Real18 February 2024
Once again Jayam Ravi acting is very good in what has to be for me, one of his best Tamil films right after Thani Oruvan. He brings his character to life in a film that has a very good story with a good balance of action and comedy.

Jayam Ravi plays a character who is known as Thilakan Varman who is is in jail for something that he did or not and comes out on parole after 14 years, having a chance to see his family and his daughter after so many years.

The story focus on Jayam Ravi and Keerthy Suresh who plays a police female officer Nandhini who has a bad image from something that she may have done or not in her past.

Just when Thilakan Varman comes out of jail and has another chance of life, murders are happening making police offer Nandhini to believe that it's Thilakan who is behind them all.

We also throughout the film learn from the flashback what happened to Thilakan Varman and how he ended up in jail.

Very good songs and very good story with a good balance of action and emotional scenes with good acting by Jayam Ravi.

One time watch. Keerthi was very boring.

Siren

The theme of the movie is very nice and the director Antony Bhagyaraj did his best.

It's an action oriented crime thriller. The BGM, Music and camera was also upto the mark. Mr. Thilagan an Ambulance driver in a village tunred to be a murder and waiting to take revenge but it took 14 years.

Sorry to say the casting was not proper. All the male actors are did their best but the heroine Keerti was very boring. She just have one emotion in her face. Someone must tell her its the role of a police officer and the role requires some hardwork. The police uniform doesn't fit for her.

The comdey scenes of Yogi and Ravi combo was nice. The songs were unnecessary. The fight scenes are just average. As per my opinion it is just a one time watch. But don't expect like Thani Oruvan..

Siren: A Gripping Tamil Thriller
abphadore23 April 2024
"Siren 108," directed by Antony Bhagyaraj, is a Tamil action thriller that centers on Thilagan, an honest ambulance driver in Kanchipuram, who is wrongfully convicted of murdering his wife, Jennifer, and his friend Kathir. After spending 14 years in prison, Thilagan is granted parole for 14 days, during which he seeks revenge against Anbazhagan and DSP S. Nagalingam for the deaths of Jennifer and Kathir, and attempts to reconcile with his daughter, Malar, who harbors resentment towards him for his alleged crimes.

Jayam Ravi delivers a compelling performance as Thilagavarman, showcasing both his veteran acting skills and emotional depth, which effectively garners viewer support for his character. Keerthy Suresh's portrayal of Inspector K. Nandhini, while competent, occasionally veers into overacting, and her character lacks the depth and backstory needed to fully engage the audience. Yogi Babu provides comic relief as Velankanni, although his role feels somewhat underutilized in the overall narrative.

The film's pacing is a bit slow at the start, with the true motives and backstory unfolding more prominently in the second half. However, once the action kicks in, the stylized sequences, sound effects, and musical score enhance the viewing experience.

Samuthirakani delivers a solid performance as DSP S. Nagalingam, although his character feels somewhat familiar due to similarities with his previous roles. Ajay as Anbazhagan serves as a convincing antagonist, adding tension and conflict to the story.

Yuvina Parthavi impresses in her limited role as Malar, Thilagan's daughter, bringing depth and emotion to the character. However, the film could have benefited from further exploration of her character's arc and involvement in the plot.

Overall, "Siren 108" succeeds as a weekend masala movie, offering gripping action and entertainment for audiences. While it has its flaws, particularly in character development and pacing, it remains an enjoyable watch for fans of the genre.

Jayam Ravi's version of VISWASAM...!!!
PANDIAN12062119 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
A very basic revenge drama that tries to look unique,Directed by Antony Bhagyaraj, who previously co-wrote Viswasam, has actually made yet another father-daughter story. But the way Antony has constructed intrigue in the narrative has a familiar nature, and with too many convenient coincidences and unsurprising sentiments...

With his salt and pepper looks as the evolved Thilagan, Jayam Ravi manages to be convincing in the role. The excessive goodness in the character makes him go back to his usual set of expressions occasionally...While Keerthy doesn't fit into the role of inspector instead the director could have chosen a strong male lead for the role & Anupama fails to create impact but it's yogi babu who does gives a comic relief with his sarcastic dialogue between it hero or a cop,he does it effortlessly...

The flashback is crisp, unfortunately tries to tick way too many boxes within the short span like establishing the character of the hero's love interest, explain the crime world of the villains, forcefully stress on the caste discrimination subject and what not... The good thing is that it was not boring despite the sluggish pace and there were some brisk moments in the flow but one pathetic idea of killing a villain is nonsense at a bar sequence...

Poor work by GV Prakash in terms of songs. Sam CS' background score is no exception as the film is traveling on one side and his music on the pole opposite...Neat camera work, the cinematographer has contributed his best to help the director achieve his vision for the visual storytelling. Editor Ruben has done over duty here by spoon feeding everything, his choice of shot insertions to make the scenes interesting has actually drained them down...

Overall a one-time watchable movie to kill ur weekend boredom.

Siren: loud but underwhelming.
swarnameenaa-3207420 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
We wait for the Kannana Kanne magic to happen again, where an estranged father unites with his daughter but the moment never arrives.

The takeaway seemed to be that criminals don't always get punished for the crimes they did, but sometimes, they are punished and then commit the crime...

Thilagan, an ambulance driver with unexplained, amazing talent for close combat, who falls in love at first sight with a hearing and speech impaired nurse. His high regard for lives in emergency pits him against casteist folk who ruthlessly kill the wife and frame Thilagan. How he comes back and avenges the death and his life sentence forms the rest of the movie.

In spite of some moments of brilliance, the punches never land in this movie. Keerthy Suresh as Inspector Nandhini seems a bit of a misfit for the role, maybe fleshing out her own character, drawing parallels between her and Thilagan, on what being wrongly framed for murder does to one, may have helped. The music in most parts of the story doesn't blend with the movie, and serves only to maintain the cliche. The daughter, Yuvina, shines within her limited screen time.

good movie
jafarahayu13 May 2024
Basically, the roles of but with a better storyline but still there is a correlation with the main part,, of course with 2 artists not mentioned above as irreplaceable actors,, I personally like Kirty Shuresh's acting..., Keerthy Suresh, liven up the storyline of this 2024 Siren film. The plot twist is not bad. Even though he succeeded in getting his revenge, the actor was still sentenced to prison for who knows how long. I hope there will still be a part 2 for this film. But with a better storyline but still there is a correlation with the main part,, of course with 2 artists not mentioned above as irreplaceable actors,, I personally like Kirty Shuresh's acting... , greetings from Indonesia - jaff XRP.

Director thinks the watchers are fools
ckckxcss28 April 2024
Last scene of killing a police officer is useless. He drops the ambulance somewhere whereas keerthi is just near the temple.

When keerti reaches the house RAVI has already taken bath. If Keerthi wants to find the truth why can't she just search the bathroom for evidence.

So many flaws in the entire movie.

Also one more thing. The director is misusing so many concepts. He is a Christian and how come he knows about caste problems in Hindu society.

Why can't he keep a fight scene with blood in Church.

Don't just take move with wrong conclusions. Still am saying it again. Mr Antony your movie is an absolute waste. Respect both the movie watchers and the religion sentiments.

over hyped
Kenjislamberry18 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I was actually excited when i first saw the earlier teasers. Sadly its let down by poor writing and bad direction. It ends up being a stereotypical action revenge masala movie. It feels like something that would have released in the early 00s. Jayam Ravi and Keerthy Suresh are sadly wasted on this terrible script . Keerthy was miscast as. Inspector Nandhini.

Her character is not a believable as a cop and just comes off as a angry dumb cop. Also how old is Thiligan supposed to be even with the make up and hair dye Jayam looks too young to be a father to a pre-teen daughter.

The daughter barely gets any character development. She just comes off as a mean brat who hates her dad stupidly not knowing the truth. The wife's character was also poorly written . Were supposed to feel bad for but end up feeling nothing due to writing. The only personality she has is being mute and deaf. Both her and the daughter just exist as plot devices to give the reason for why Thiligan commits the murders.

It does have some tense moments but it let down by garbage writing and does nothing new in the revenge action thriller genre. With good direction and writing this could have been amazing. It seem like Jayam has been doing a lot of mediocre movies lately.

Other than Ponniyin Selvan movies he hasn't had much success. He needs to choose better scripts and directors to work with . Hes proven before hes a great actor with the right script.

Hes shown it with Thani Oruvan and Nimirndhu Nil , Adanga Maru that he can do action thriller roles. He's entertaining to watch with the right movie . I hope he can get out of this career slump . I can't recommend this movie . I had force myself to finish it was very boring at times and once the action picks up by 2nd half it doesn't improve. I hope the upcoming thriller Thani Oruvan 2 is as good as the original . 4/10 don't waste your time with this one.
