Too many songs so little plot
halima14775 September 2022
30 minutes into the movie and there have been about 6 songs. Now barbie movies do have their song breakout and such but there is such as thing as too much. I feel this because you have a few minutes in between to scroll through the actual plot line of the movie, but when its does you are interrupted by a song.

Another problem with song after song after song before you had time to digest it another one comes up , and sure the message behind the songs are good, the music is okay but it lacks the memorable impact.

I am writing this. At the 30mins mark, so i don't know the ending , but I hope its not as cliche as I think it will be. I also wishes that the villian for the first mermaid movie ended there.

What is happening?
bthvpdp6 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The plot itself had so much potential and I like that they added all kinds of different sized and colored characters.. however... WHY ARE THE MERMAIDS WEARING SHIRTS AND JACKETS BUT THE HUMANS HAVE SEA SHELL BRAS?!?! Isla was completely ruined. Her eye color, her voice, her design has completely changed and it's not as impactful as she was in dolphin magic. The hair animation was fine, but the regular animation was a little weird. The animals in the movie were pretty good and I'm glad the turtle model has made changes since the mermaidia turtle. I'm upset that the plot kind of fell apart. First they were looking for people to become the power keeper and two people were missing and then suddenly Barbie and all her sisters were participating in challenges to become the power keeper and then the power keeper ended up being someone who was there the whole time?!?! This movie should have shown how bad the trash in our oceans can be, it should have been more impactful rather than chilling in the back.

DO NOT WATCH WITH FOOD POISONING!!
pinkyylemon4 August 2023
So i'm a big barbie fan and i watched this movie. I had food poisoning and i had already thrown up once and i thought it would be fun to watch a new barbie movie and i threw up right when the little mermaid with the disabled tail (loved the inclusiveness) started singing and her horrible auto tune voice came on. I would not recommend watching this movie if you have food poisoning because i threw up twice after watching this movie and it was absolutely horrible. I could not believe what the monsters who created this movie were thinking. Could they not even get a child singer to sing the little mermaid's part instead of getting an adult to sing it?! Thanks but i'll stick to the old barbie movies.

Epic Doesn't Begin To Describe How Great It Is
blytheandferb-911723 September 2022
Barbie: Mermaid Power is a movie that just does everything a good movie should do. For starters, the music is top notch. The Math Club continues making top notch music and songs, just like in projects such as Barbie: Dolphin Magic, Barbie: Dreamhouse Adventures, and Barbie: Princess Adventure. Matthew Tishler & Andrew Underberg help contribute greatly to the songs, giving it a modern flare. The characters are all top notch. Malibu Barbie is shown to be pretty mature and down to earth, knowing that doing the right thing is the bigger priority, and she only feels down on herself when she thinks she can't contribute. Her embracing of imagination without it clouding her judgment is a plus in my book. Brooklyn Barbie is also a good fit to the group dynamic, being more of the realist, but still trying to give things a chance. Seeing her loosen her standards on what's real is well done. She learns things quicker, yet still focuses more on doing the right thing. Barbie's sisters do well playing supporting roles, notably Skipper being able to connect to Finn and Chelsea connecting to Aquaryah. The returning characters, Isla and Marlo, also play their roles well, with Isla being supportive of what humans can do without sacrificing her mermaid side, and Marlo being surprisingly sympathetic despite how cruel she acts. The new characters in the movie are also great, whether it's Aquaryah being plucky and open minded towards humans, but still a bit stubborn, or her brother Finn being overprotective and stubborn but still caring. Talleigha makes for quite the intimidating antagonist, being deeply rooted in her species's racism against humans. Her smug behavior makes her entertaining. The messages are also great, which is about being able to show support for others and trying to find your inner power. I call this amazing.

Barbie dolphin magic sequel mermaid power review
megleigh-0523513 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Barbie mermaid power is a really great sequel of Barbie dolphin magic and I really like that we got to see Brooklyn Barbie in mermaid power she is one of my favorite characters in the dolphin magic franchise. But one thing I did wish had happened in the sequel I wish Ken was in it he is my number one favorite character but over all it is a great movie and a great sequel so is you guys should watch it if you are a fan of the first one Barbie dolphin magic. And it has great music in it and the characters that are in it are both Barbies, skipper, chealse and Stacy. And it is only really a hour long.

My Favorite Barbie Movie
blytheandferb-109671 September 2022
What is there to say about this movie? It's amazing. It gets intense, yet stays inspirational. It has well rounded characters, whether protagonist or antagonist, and you find all of them fun to watch. The conflicts for the Barbies and characters like Marlo, Talleigha, and Aquaryah are all well done. It looks amazing, what with all the bright colors and well defined designs. The songs are really catchy. It also has strong messages about support and finding your inner power. This can be attributed to combining the best aspects of what makes modern Barbie projects work, whether there's a sense of stakes and the desire to do the right thing no matter what. I call this one a winner.

The best Barbie mermaid movie.
hannahmakesstories12 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was surprisingly enjoyable, other than a few dumb scenes, but when you get past that, the movie becomes better than Pearl Princess, better than Mermaid Tale and better than the second one. I really recommend. Watch this movie if you like Barbie movies and maybe don't watch it if you have disliked all the new ones, but that's you're choice! Honestly, this is the best Barbie movie out of the 2021-2022. It had Isla, it had a working story, and it had Marlo! Marlo's character development was actually really entertaining to watch, with Barbie struggling to get up, and Marlo having to make a tough decision of continuing her evil ways or finally making a selfless action, anyway, I would definitely recommend a family with small children to watch this, or watch it alone.

Great combo of past characters
sarabuettner10 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
My 3.5 year old and I both loved this movie. It was great to see Isla and Brooklyn meet each other, though you don't see as much of Isla. As an adult, if you look at the overarching movie plot it's a bit reminiscent of a YA fantasy novel (fantasy world with important competition, outsiders must compete but shunned, eventually accepted and save the day somehow). My daughter loved all the music and we have the playlist on repeat. The trash and littering has created a great talking point for us. Same with the three 'bully' characters and Marlo, they have good character arcs that you can use to start conversations about. SPOILER: I personally thought it was refreshing that Barbie wasn't the Power Keeper since that's how every single one of these movies ends, however it is a bit of a plot hole since Aquaryah wasn't selected as a competitor to begin with.
