Just another uneven episode in what could be consistently great
atchinsonk9 September 2022
The initial thrust, that of alien Harry learning what it is to be human, is still there but has been diluted. The attempts to show humanity via the interactions of the other characters has done little but make them more annoying with each passing episode. The mayor's a neurotic wuss. His wife is a neurotic control freak. The sheriff and deputy are decent, but overly cartoonish. Linda Hamilton sticks her head in once in a while as if to yell "I'm still here!" D'Arcy and Asta remain fairly likable, but the writing and direction has totally overplayed their affectations. Honestly, the two most realistic and enjoyable humans in the show are Dan, and wait for it... Harry.

Look at the list of directors. Such a large ensemble is guaranteed to produce a disjointed series, unable to maintain a coherent vision. I think I'm through watching it.

The dog ate my homework, honest.....

They really half ar$ed this, like barely enough to get a passing grade.

After a very wobbly first half of the season with terrible moralising and lacking in the core elements of this show that made it work, ie Harry, the whole story of an alien on earth, and the funny bits cos it is a comedy series, the second part turned it around somewhat. The police chief is funny, the kids and Harry's interaction with them is funny, The girls night out to save what every social issue, not funny or fun,

Darcy's ski career and love life, don't care,

Mayor and wife, funny for a few lines but after that, don't care,

Asta and her family life, not fun, not funny, not interesting not different enough to warrant our attention,

The clue is in the title 'Alien'.

I see it's been renewed for another series but they barely got a c minus passing grade for this season. I'll check out S3E01 and if Harry isn't front and center delivering laughs (which Alan Tudyk is more than capable of, he's a very good comedic actor and I love his delivery and the material he is given, when he's given it) with solid story progression I won't be watching any more.

What did this episode really deliver?

And the ending, are we supposed to know who the house is the guy ran into? Was it relevant or random?

Why did Asta jump to the conclusion that Harry was Goliath when the picture is from the perspective of someone watching Her and Harry?

The show needs to make more sense and better use of our time.

Terrible episode

Remember Asta's whole backstory about the mother who abandoned her? Neither do I. But for some reason this whole episode revolves around it. The rest of the episode mainly involved D'arcy's training for the skiing competition.

If you ever watched the X-Files it was essentially one of Chris Carter's mythology episodes. It contained 10% stuff you know and like, 90% new stuff that came out of nowhere and 0% of stuff that makes you want to keep watching the show.

The great cast has kept me watching the show until now but it seems as if the writing has finally let them down.

The two cops are still the stars of the show. Alan Tudyk is great, as usual, but the writing has failed this show without even giving us 2 great seasons. As a fan, I'm definitely disappointed.

Harry, a Parent.

Warning: Spoilers
It's certainly not getting any better. Harry's humorous early, though the food craving gags are very repetitive and mostly all you get these days. This spoof cartoon alien's ridiculous, hah. Friggin Kate won't accept no, even though it doesn't have anything to do with her, but no, can't do it, blah. D'Arcy skiing qualifier... yippee? Asta meeting her mother, surprised Dan didn't tell her he knew of her already, that she'd be better off not knowing her, probably next episode... Can't wait.

Harry: We don't care if they die, as long as they don't die in the road and make it bumpy for our vehicles."

Harry, a Parent

Despite the bombshell of the previous episode about Goliath. This one opens with some random husband finding his wife is having an affair.

Her lover races out of the house as the husband is carrying an axe. The moment is revisited at the end of the episode as D'Arcy's car goes past.

Maybe this was a riff on the time travel element Harry was talking about.

That kind of randomness was a highlight of another meandering episode. Resident Alien has forgotten about a central story.

It seems to be about vignettes. A Draconian alien voiced by George Takei.

Asta meets her biological mother who does not have a second thought of the baby she abandoned. She was just not mother material and seems to have cancer due to all that smoking.

Resident Alien has lost its fun factor. It has also become dull.
