- 2 Little Monsters tells the fictional story of two boys who are released from prison on their eighteenth birthdays after killing a three-year old boy when they were ten.
- James and Carl were only 10 years old when they kidnapped and murdered 3-year-old David McClendon. They were caught, tried, convicted and placed in separate juvenile facilities. At 18 years old, both are given new names and released back into society - much to the horror of the nation. They can have no contact with each other or with their past friends or relatives. The story follows the lives of these two boys as they try to start over, escape the past and survive the growing outcry following their release.—Anonymous
- James and Carl were 10 years old when they picked up 3-year-old David from a mall when his mother wasn't looking, took him for a walk on a whim instead of shoplifting, and when the boy started to cry somehow or another they ended up killing him with a crowbar and a brick on the railroad tracks. James told the police Carl killed the boy with the crowbar and then forced him to kill the boy "again" with a brick so they'd both be killers. The boys are incarcerated until they're 18 and then they are released, given new identities and forced to start over elsewhere and to have no communication with each other or their family and friends. James is a shy bespectacled nerdy introverted type who lives with a foster family and befriends the 17 year old girl next door, and her precocious 12-year-old sister. Carl is a darker edgier,James Dean type who now lives with a retired cop who wants to be a stand-up comedian and gets an office job, works on his art and starts to like the secretary who works in the cubicle next to him, but when she rejects him after looking at the magazine profiles of the relocated 10-year-old boys and suspecting he could be one of them, he snaps. Meanwhile,David's mother wants vengeance, a woman who saw the two boys with the little three-year-old David I thought they were just playing is hated because she did nothing, and an assassin is hunting Carl and James down either because he's a fanatical type, or the boy's mother or father hired him, and two sleazy tabloid reporters are hunting them too for their own fame and fortune.Carl wants to talk to his mother or James, but his parole officer says it can't happen, so he breaks into the parole officer's office, knocks him out, takes him hostage, and finds his mother's new number. He calls her and she rejects him, saying she's had to move and change her name three times because of him. Carl finds James's information and calls him too. James talks to him at first, but eventually tells him to go away before he ruins everything for both of them. Carl gets his foster family's information and calls their phone, and then calls again in the middle of the night. They report it to James' parole officer, who calls Carl's parole officer but can't get an answer because Carl has kidnapped the man. James's parole officer confronts him and James says he hung up, and he did not talk to Carl. Carl confronts his mother at her new home where she rejects him again. He forces her to play Russian roulette until she says she loves him. He then shoots her dead anyway because he knows she didn't really mean it. He heads off to Las Vegas with his parole officer as a hostage in his trunk, asks a waitress where to get a lap dance, calls James' residence, and his foster mother answers and warns him she knows who he is. James ultimately shows up where James lives. James is finally confessed the truth to his girlfriend who knew he was lying because he's always been a bad liar. She forgives him, but then they learn Carl kidnapped her little sister, and the two sleazy tabloid reporters who have shown up following the parole officers. Carl holds everyone hostage at a parking lot and forces James to admit that he was the one who actually killed three-year-old little David. James says it was because Carl kept beating the boy to make him stop crying and he saw a train coming on the tracks and he just wanted the beating to stop. Carl says he hit the boy's dead body with a brick, because he wanted them both to share the burden.Carl said he never told the police what James did because he has a code of loyalty, unlike James, who he feels sold him out and lied to save his own neck.He just wanted James to confess now. Carl then pulls out the bound and gagged 12 year old girl, gives James his gun and forces James to shoot him dead to stop him from killing the girl with a crowbar while the tabloid reporters get the picture. The sleazy tabloid reporters get the picture on the cover of their magazine, the story is on their front page, and they get the Pulitzer prize. James is relocated again since his current picture has appeared in their paper. The 12-year-old girl is sympathetic to him in an interview, and so is her sister. The tabloid guys relish their Pulitzer prize to the press and say they were there and did what any good reporter would have done. David's mother says Carl's murder spree is proof those boys cannot change. James is interviewed from a secure, unknown location one afternoon, and admits things have turned out pretty well for him, but the assassin, who's been trying to find the boys all through the movie, pulls up and closes in on him with a gleeful smile on his face as the movie ends. It is implied the boy's mother and/or father may have hired the assassin, but whatever reason he's there,it is pretty obvious James is going to get it!
