There's no easy bake oven toy.
hazard11113 October 2022
As a food show I liked it hence the 7 coz I'm honestly just here for the light hearted but tense fun of cooking plus seeing all the dishes (plus points that they do this VERY close-ups of the dishes, made me hungry)...but the overall premise is a wasted potential.

-There's no use of the easy bake oven toy. It's a large oven that the cooks have a limited time to use. Idk how the toy oven works so on a technical standpoint I cannot tell if it's actually a large version of the toy oven or is it just an oven with one temperature.

-The champion tier is unfair, basically if you are in the first group you can actually have a chance to win more money but for the last group even if they win the initial $25k they aren't given any chances at all to double it.

-Generic feel. They could've made this fun like Nailed it. Use the easy bake oven toy or utilize unusual machines to cook like cooking using an iron, which they did do but only once. Imagine if they actually made that their 1st cooking segment? Would've made the show more fun and creative.

-Questionable requirements. I'm honestly confused about their criteria. They encourage using hacks for quick and easy cooking, which I appreciate as I find it informative being able to see what can be done with a canned soup or leftover chicken (similar to Best Leftovers Ever! Show but that one also didn't really bring their premise to justice) but what is actually needed to win? You have cooks who make a simple dish more complicated while some make a complicated dish in an easier way... both styles have won.

Anyway as a generic food show I liked the dishes and what not so I'm generous with the rating but overall I don't think they really delivered on their premise. IF they actually get a season 2 I'd still watch it but would be so great if they revamped the whole thing.

This show is rigged for Giselle
michelle_kummer21 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Sorry but this was such a good show until Giselle and her stupid dancing and manicured eyebrows entered the room. She's so painful and not even that talented, her ego outweighs her height and I found it difficult to watch.

She's apparently a luxury real estate agent.. if that's the case $75k isn't a lot of money to her.

There were so many better dishes made by other contestants yet she kept on winning.

The lady that made the Italian inspired food was was more talented so this show had to be rigged.

The host is humble compared to some chefs that are filled with arrogance so that was refreshing.

I just couldn't handle seeing that stupid dance and Botox face ruin the episodes.

Should be called-Entitled People Cook Off
princessandthepeabody18 October 2022
Who are these people? World travelers, Instagramers, beauty execs, luxury real estate sellers, influencers? Not your regular everyday people, contestants fond of throwing out information that comes across as elitist. Another reviewer mentioned favoritism and I agree. The host seems very biased. Still it was an enjoyable watch, some good dishes were created and some helpful tips shared. Hopefully, there is a more economically diverse contestant search next time and from all over the country. If you are spending $25,000 per week per winner, let's see different regions. I don't think California based shows are quite in touch with the rest of the country. Personally I'd like to see a church lady cook off show, epic local dishes made by competitive church ladies. Maybe a grandma or grandpa competitive cook off. Let's see some older people represented.

interesting concept but a little contradictory
carolynwalsh-3813827 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILERS INCLUDED: It's fun to watch, but if the point of the show is to come up with easy and accessible recipes, it kind of misses the mark. A lot of the show does not allow baking OR cooking. This forces contestants to use specialized appliances that are far less common in your average person's kitchen like an air fryer, waffle iron, food processor etc. They also have challenges that don't allow anything from the fridge, so they have to resort to highly processed foods. There are little to no healthy options. The most practical part of the show is a few hacks here and there but overall, I was disappointed that there weren't more fast and simple recipes with fresh ingredients instead of stuff you might find at an Applebees. The 30 minute timespan is also pretty unrealistic because that's 30 minutes of them running around the kitchen like chickens with their heads cut off. In real life, the recipes would probably take a lot longer going at a normal pace. I get this all kind of adds to the competition show aspect of it, I guess I was just let down that they didn't give more realistic options for amateur cooks. Also, providing the recipes and hacks on a website would be super useful.

It's entertaining, but unfair to contestants.
megancgarvin22 June 2023
First off, I love antoni. Huge fan of him from queer eye and he's equally great in this. But the concept/rules of this show are just unfair. The winner of each episode continues on and battles against 2 new people. But the champion now has a HUGE unfair advantage. They know the rules, what the judge likes, the tools in the kitchen, how to navigate the kitchen, etc... They also get more chances to win money vs someone who might eventually beat them/join in a later episode. So, while this was a good easy watching show it was also frustrating seeing someone have such an advantage every episode. If they make more of this they need to tweak the rules.

Not really a competition with a real champion
raptors218 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Hacks were fun, host is good, but unless everyone is competing in like a traditional bracket situation, it is really luck of the draw where you ended up and how much money you can win. Someone that cooked on one episode possibly being crowned champion is not really what I want to watch. If they did 3 people competing, then three more, then three more and the winners of those competing against each other, repeat that two more times and have those three winners compete, then you have a competition. I also hate it when people are not judged on the same thing. I HATE shows that have this person cook Mexican and this person do Italian, and this person...German cuisine, you are not judging them fairly. You are not judging apples against apples, you are judging apples against plumbs and those against mangos...not the same, therefore you really cannot compare them. None of the people in the last couple of episodes actually had a chance at $100k.

First cooking show that is full of heart
sarahelenes14 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm very happy of what this show turned to be. Many people are focusing more on the technicalities of the show that I'm sure that the producers will improve with the time, but no one is talking about how heartfelt this show is. Antoni definitely brings heart to all that he does.

There is even an episode when he stops everything just to talk to a contestant and see how she is feeling. Then there are scenes where all the contestants are sitting together and complimenting each other. I'm just very happy to see more positivity in the entertainment industry. Of courseeee, important note, all dishes look deliciiooous and I love the easy hacks that are shared and the easy recipes!

Misleading show title. Another Netflix bait!
ymousnona1235 November 2022
I was so excited to see this show in my Netflix recommended. The Easy Bake oven was something I dreamed of having as a kid! I also thought it would be such a neat concept to see how different people adapt to and cook fabulous dishes in the easy bake oven.

The reveal in the final moments of the first episode left me disappointedd. They basically called it an upgraded easy bake. No honey, that's just an oven! I don't get why they would call it that. It's not even a baking show. It's a cooking show, so the title seems really bait-y.

I kind of agree with another reviewer that there is some favoritism going on.

The only redeeming quality is the main judge. He is nice, calm, caring, and funny. This is kind of rare these days. Many hosts on cooking/ baking shows are over-the-top and obnoxious, but I really like his energy!

I wouldn't really recommend this show, but if you got nothing to watch and don't want to really follow what's playing, then this is an okay show for background noise.

A lot of fun
hilary_mae-912-8056128 November 2022
I was pleasantly surprised at this show. I was ready to be disappointed, but it was actually very good. The host, Antoni, is charming, playful and also kind. The competitors are amazing cooks and I was really impressed that they were people who just cooked at home. They turned out superior dishes that would rival any "top" chef out there. It's all in the passion. I learned some very clever cooking hacks as well, which was quite cool and I WILL use.

I really do hope that Neflix will bring out a Season 2, because it's an enjoyable show, good concept, and viewers learn a lot whilst having fun watching.

There are some. Comments claiming the judges favoured Giselle when she didn't deserve it. They did not favour her unfairly. She was highly skilled and earned the accolades. People are just being haters or maybe they are relatives of the other competitors, but she earned her winnings! (and no, that comment doesn't mean she won the big prize, I won't comment on that and spoil it for everyone)

Well worth watching, well worth more episodes!

Blatant favouritism
helenmbelvin4 June 2023
While I like Anthony from Queer Eye, and actually started watching this because of him, I can't help but think that there was some serious favouritism for Gisele for some unknown reason. Other cooks often seemed to have better dishes yet she won again and again. Her lack of humility and constant outpouring of tears and just made her all the more annoying and tiresome. I thought that I would see the show through, in the hopes that other good cooks would be recognized for their talent but with her continuous winning, the show became too one-sided and I decided to stop watching so that I wouldn't see her win.

I liked it!
alfie3477 December 2022
I know Antoni can be a lot, but I think he does a really good job here of balancing praise and critiques.

The other guest judges were great too.

I enjoyed the easy bake hacks at the beginning of the series, but it seems like they kinda stopped doing them by the end of the series. And there a couple "hacks" that I would find make my life harder, but hey to each their own.

I also thought the premise was interesting. I like that it was different to any cooking show I've seen before.

I also like that the contestants were super sweet with each other and they seemed to genuinely like each other.

So terrible gave me a headache .
adityakmohanty18 October 2022
I mean just say that you don't care about the food and you just wanna give the win to the whitest trash dish out of the line up . The judges in some rounds made comments which were just because they had to cut . In an episode literally they shot down innovation saying it is too risky . Lmao. What is food without innovation and risk . The judging is a joke . Some cooking hacks were usefull , and that's all I got out of this .

On the bright side the participants were people who weren't great cooks to begin with and got a stage to challenge themselves . They challenges were intersting and some really interesting dishes came out of it given the time frame .

Watch it or skip it ?

A 100% skip .

Fun show with some minor annoyances
jadamson-560739 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was a fun watch for sure. The limitations in some rounds made for some great creativity (cooking with a coffee maker, no oven, etc.) Could have done with 100% less Giselle, none of her dishes should have won and that smug immature attitude ruined what was otherwise a sweet, wholesome vibe. Also, back off on calling everything a "hack." Pre-heating the oven is not a hack. Putting things in a food processor to process them is not a hack.

All in all I enjoyed it and hope they pull from a wider crowd for contestants if there's another season. Influencers and real estate agents aren't connecting with anyone.

Favoritism
tonjacadams11 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Favoritism towards Hailey was ridiculous and obvious. Host went to assist when she broke down in tears. Additionally, she kept touching her hair, while cooking and touching the food. The host compliments Hailey during the episodes, while not her competitors. If you win the 1st round, there should be a benefit in round 2. I do like that the contestants are home cooks with hacks. I think there needs to be another judge to give a larger balance. And once you win, you should compete against other winners. That evens the playing field. I would love to see a new season with these adjustments. Thanks for the opportunity.

Worst cooking show.
krystalpate11 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So first off off it's rigged, the woman who last the last three or four episode messed up more than the other person but still won every time????? Who she sleeping with? Lol cuz her foods not winning the show....the first episode was great but when they brought her on it just went down hill. Wouldn't waste your time watching unless you like to see people get screwed over. I literally just fast forwarded the last few episode to watch the judging and I'm happy I did so I didn't waste my time or get invested in this show. Plus some of the stuff the people do is so basic any one could do it lol easy bake is the only thing correct about the show.

Blatant favoritism
laitheleo16 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This show had a good concept and I liked that it showed meals that are typically made at home. However I couldn't stand seeing the blantant favoritism for Hellen by the main judge. He would manipulate the other judges to pay more attention to her. He would also baby her and act as if she was just the best. You could even see that some of the contestants could see right through the bs. It also just comes across as blatant racism. And if you think I'm just making this up on one of the episodes one of the women put a lot of vegetable garnishes and the judge critiqued her harshly. But when Hellen had a lot of vegetable garnishes on her dish they didn't say anything. I couldn't believe the muslim women won besides that other women. It was hard to warch at times but it was alright.

The host is so Chingy
lesliemalsup8 November 2022
I was excited to see this on Netflix. I love cooking shows but i just couldn't watch another episode after episode 1 (well actually half way through episode 2) . The host is so fake and cringy! I think he thinks he's being cute and funny. They probably tell him to "drama" it up but it's just to much. I know this sounds rude but I'm just being honest. I like the concept of the show and you do learn a few tips. But when the host is this annoying, it's to difficult to get through the show. Sorry, but this show is an absolute hard pass for me. Real bummer to because it's getting harder and harder to find decent tv shows.

Worst cooking show ever
batumehmet26 September 2023
The worst cooking show I have ever watched, I do not recommend. Do results of the episodes are completely biased and the results are neither accurate nor fair. If the concept is a competition, the expectation is that competent and respectable judges would accurately provide valuable feedback. If this is not possible, then it should just be a cooking show and it should not be a competition. I could not even finish the show it was so bad. Netflix has to try harder to make quality content to not lose more subscribers, as it seems a lot of their shows these days are just variants of each other with little thought and effort put into it.

Meh
bmodels8 February 2023
Hmmm. Well, while I like Antoni, his judging skills are very poor. He seemed to choose the pregnant contestants just because of that fact and maybe she might really need the money... This show overall is so so... Can I finish this season? I'm really not sure.

I absolutely love cooking shows because I love to cook and this one didn't make me feel excited at all. There were only three contestants (Dave, Aprille and Michael) who I would clap for and weirdly enough they added that 'extraness' that should've gotten them to another round but hey, I'm not surprised at all but guess who they chose lol...

More Netflix drivel
antony-124 May 2023
I thought they were going to demonstrate some quick dishes to make.

Instead it's more reality show drivel. Five minutes in and we've already had pictures of kids, whining about how they have so many children etc. I don't care. Oh and one piece of food was one cooked for a FOOTBALL PLAYER apparently. Yes footballers eat!

We're having discussions on people's hair and very little focus on the cooking so heavens forbid you might be able to do it yourself at home.

And when they do focus on the cooking, they discuss "hacks" such as pre-chopped onions. That's hacking absolutely noting, it's using a prepared ingredient as an ingredient. Frozen spinach, you're hacking nothing, it's a prepared ingredient. Cooking potatoes in a microwave you're hacking nothing, you're cooking with a cooker it's the entire purpose of it!

Why must TV be so brainless?

Raw Favoritism
godsgirl-4608521 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The more I watch the worst it gets. Just as others have said is it's a setup to not allow any darker skinned persons win. I see it in a lot of cooking shows though. Where do you really go to the make your point at the favoritism I see it this show. This show could be called "go out dark shadows" because this favoritism is so, so, openly shown that, I too feel a headache coming on if, I was to continue viewing this terrible thing happening to the unfavorable contestants. So, take mine warning and others like me are revealing to the rest of you if, thinking about viewing this show. This isn't for all.
