Most of the budget was spent on hiring a camel. The drummer of the band the Aquarelleties, who requested the development of the movie, mandated the inclusion of a camel. According to the director, the exclusion of a camel would have been a deal-breaker and the movie would never enter production.
Originally, the creators wanted to develop a biopic on Thiel Freeken, a not so famous dutch painter. As the movie went into production, the creators discovered a more contemporary approach would better connect with the audience. So they changed the biopic into a dystopian sing-a-long.
