Too nasty for my taste.
planktonrules17 April 2014
I'll admit it—I am a rather old fashioned guy. I don't particularly want to see movies that are filled with nudity, violence, vomiting and crudeness. This sometimes is an issue, as many films these days have all the above and then some…and I review films! Such is the case when I watched the oddly titled Eenie, Meenie, Miney, Moe—a film thoroughly soaked in nastiness. Some might enjoy the film because it is very stylish and exciting, though I was very turned off because it glamorizes the thug lifestyle (at least until the end of the film). Nudity, cursing, sex, drug abuse, stealing—it's all in this film from start to finish. My feeling is that life is too short to watch depressing films like this.

The film is set in Miami and concerns a small group of young 'business associates' who live life on the edge—with hot girls and all the best that money will buy. It's all thanks to money they earn by stealing cars and selling drugs. In fact, there really isn't a whole lot of plot during most of the movie—just guys like Vlad and Raul earning money through any sleazy means necessary. It's just one scene after another of the characters having sex, doing or selling drugs and breaking the law. As a result, it was not only very crude but also became rather boring…at least until the end which I must admit that I did appreciate quite a bit. Another problem is that in addition to having little in the way of plot, it's impossible to care about any of the characters— they're all low-lifes and have little in the way of character development. This makes this movie a very, very hard film for me to enjoy and when tragedy strikes them, I felt myself thinking that this wasn't such a bad thing!

While I watched the film I was prepared to give it an absolutely scathing review. And, although I was definitely repulsed by the film, at least it did end very well and was well made. You see that although these folks live fast, have no morals values and are jerks, at least there IS a price to pay for all this. Had the film simply ended with these jerks being happy jerks, it would have really turned me off and I would have given it a D-. Fortunately, the end IS hard-hitting and well done. But, even with a nice moral lesson at the end, I found that enduring the nastiness that came before all this just too much to bear. Not a terrible film and the production values are very slick and well done (especially the music and editing), but it's the sort of film I hope to not see again. Think twice about seeing Eenie Meenie Miney Moe— and don't even think about watching it with your mother or small kids! However, if you have a punk teen of your own, perhaps it will be an interesting, if very crude, film to watch together.

SHOW ME HOW IT'S DONE

Warning: Spoilers
Raul (Andres Dominguez) drives a tow truck in Miami and free lances. He targets and steals automobiles and sells them to a chop shop. He also gets to keep the contents, so he normally goes after vehicles which he thinks have drugs, making sure not to steal from the mafia. He has a circle of friends who have connections that can move anything he comes up with. There are some personal conflicts, but that pretty much the entire film up until about 15 minutes from the end when the plot finally has a change, and then it is over. In spite of the plot not going anywhere, you stay interested because you don't know when he is going to steal a car and what might be in it.

The acting was fine considering the genre and budget.

Parental Guide: F-bomb. Sex. Very brief background stripper nudity

What a nice surprise!!

This movie is proof positive that one doesn't need big name Hollywood stars to produce a fantastic story. It's also proof that over-direction and over-production can destroy a great movie....by not doing those things. It's so simple. The director just allows the actors/actresses to do what they do best, act.

A couple days ago, I finally watched Gravity; a huge Hollywood production with huge stars that took 100,000,000 to make, this movie puts it to shame. The story is fantastic, the stars were wonderful, and this movie won't disappoint. If you're considering this film, but not sure, do yourself a favor and spend the time.

Crime and Punishment
franklindf19 May 2014
This movie sets up a dynamic of people and events in Miami, showing reasons for things to evolve as they do into the particular situation. The movie portrays an appealing entry into the life of crime and the glamor often associated with it. It's like seeing Grand Theft Auto play out in real life, complete with video game sound effects. However, unlike a video game, where you can simply restart a level and play it over, the movie shows there are times when there is simply no going back. After creating the framework for the setting, the movie sets the events in motion but then lets everything unfold naturally. After seeing the glamor, you get a dose of the flipside - the sleaziness and vileness of human nature, the underbelly, and definite cause for reconsideration. It's not as simple as all these "rise and fall" drug movies like Scarface or Blow - it presents an interesting moral imperative and life choices scenario and provides an invitation for reflection and insight, with "Eenie Meenie Miney Moe" being almost a question of when choices come back to you with consequences, and what those consequences are. I think teenagers should see this.

Get to know Miami
monica_pantoja7 April 2013
This is great thrill ride that has characters that i could swear were my neighbor, my cousin and the guy i knew from high school. This one of the only movies I've ever seen that transports you to Miami and will make you feel like you know the city, the way it really is. It is raw and subject matter is hardcore and it doesn't disappoint, and the twists and turns will keep you guessing until the end. I got to see this movie at the Miami International Film festival and the it had the rowdiest crowd in a movie i ever witnessed. It had a huge affect on the audience and it was thrilling to see that. For anyone that gets the opportunity to see it, it will live with you well after seeing the movie and will spark a lot of conversations. Big thumbs up!

a home grown local flick thats actually excellent
maljjl42012 March 2013
This move has it all. Drugs, fines ass girls, local scenery, action, an actual story line with funny innuendoes and did I mention funny? It was freakng hilarious too. Jokes did a great job putting together this modern day Scarface-isc feature film. With a cast of characters that to appeal anybody who walks in to see this flick. Its raw, grim-me, juicy, fun to watch and with no cheese-ball ending. Real talk, the movie doesn't disappoint. Its cool to see part of Miami that barely gets really gets seen. They were able to masterfully showcase a typical lifestyle of the Miami hustler in a was thats never been seen, at least for this viewer. Cant wait for another Jokes flick to pop up.

Great ride!

Warning: Spoilers
A great ride into the Miami night life! The story centers around different characters trying to survive in the Miami nightlife selling drugs and partying, each with their own dreams. Some want love and most want money. The movie has a great pace, with really engaging characters who you start to care for. The filming is great, the music reflects the diversity of the city. As a native of the city, I can tell you that the movie hits home on some levels. The movie is a combination of comedy, drama, and romance. The main character tries hard to save everyone even himself but no matter how hard he tries he falls victim to the greed of the city which swallows him whole. Loved the ending, poetically tragic!
