As someone who used to live in NYC, this was an interesting documentary to me. My stomping ground was Brooklyn and Manhattan, so I didn't know about the literacy crisis happening in the Bronx, which I rarely went to. This documentary, although low budget, really did a good job at illustrating what's been happening and what steps are being taken by Bronx residents and activists to rectify it. All of the different innovative ways that Bronxites created to get access to books that might otherwise be denied to them was really inspiring. It's a quiet topic and if you're looking for nonstop action, look elsewhere. Otherwise, definitely give this one a watch.

This documentary sheds an important light on the literacy crisis in New York City. Many prominent figures in the Bronx lend their voices thru interviews on how we can tackle these issues. The data presented is well crafted and unscores the lack of available programs and libraries in underserved areas of the city. The bookstore owner featured in this film and her struggle to bring affordable books to children of the Bronx was particularly riveting. We need more active citizens pressing these issues forward! After watching this documentary, Im commitment to supporting my local bookstores. This film is a must watch for students, educators and New Yorkers!
