A welcome return
OnlyAtJMart6 September 2022
So glad Rick and Morty is on a reasonable schedule now so we didn't have to wait years for a new season, especially considering where the season 5 finale left off. I was surprised this season starts right where the last one left off, as they don't do that very often. A good episode, even though it seemed to fly by. I'm excited to see where this season goes. I think the fact that they are working on a bulk of episodes at once helps the canonical stories, even though I enjoy the one-offs as well. If you have been a fan of the show, expect more of what you're used to. Good episode to start season 6 with.

Incredible!

Warning: Spoilers
A great plot, with so many surprises, and so many layers! It was cool to see Morty and Rick confront their past and their insecurities. Rick having his wife's voice tell him how big of a loser he was is heartbreaking and Morty seeing that his original family is dead other them his dad (who dies at the end) is super sad. Space Beth's return was great and I enjoyed the plot of Beth thinking Summer doesn't like her that much. Biggest shocks of the episode: Space Beth's Return, Mortys original Rick is Evil Rick, and the Jerry theory is true and he got mixed up in season 2 episode 2 "Mortynight Run" 10/10.

One of the strongest openers in years
nyxstrix5 September 2022
Season 6 starting out great!

I guess those "young writers" started off strong.

Absolutely great episode that seems to address all the main plot threads while also being a very early seasons concept. That interview with Dan Harmon about letting young writers take the lead has me thinking this season might be really good.

Overall fantastic episode, felt like older Rick and Morty episodes (like a season 3 episode), with a hint of sombreness but with a right mixture of humor; lore heavy and character driven with tons of continuity. God I forgot how fast these episodes go. One of the strongest openers in years.

R&M is Back!
Mills_44445 September 2022
With this first episode calling back to a lot of previous season it felt refreshing to be back in the golden age of the show. I think after last season this episode is showing to have similar aspects to the season 5 intro and I just hope it stays that way. I really enjoyed this as the pilot of the season and the Mr. Frundles ending is priceless. Defiantly was my favorite part of the episode as it was an unexpected but classic joke. Hell of an opener and a classic episode. This season is for sure looking promising can't wait to see more. This was a 10/10 for me as the plot was clever and had a bunch of laughs throughout it.

Brutal and brilliant
ossie855 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Rick often says that everyone is replaceable in an infinite universe. But his actions says otherwise.

We found out that Rick (call him Rick A) took over the family of the Rick (Rick B) that killed his wife Dianne and daughter Beth (Beth A).

And, as we saw in season 1, Rick A and Morty B would later abandon Beth B, Summer B and Jerry B. And to have them be killed after we spent significant amount of time was pretty hardcore!

So now we are in Universe C, where Rick A and Morty B replaced Rick C and Morty C who died in season 1. An event caused everyone to go back to their original universe and we find out Jerry C was actually swapped in season 2, so this Jerry is not the husband of Beth C and Summer C (I'll call him Jerry X).

Multiverse fun happens, where Rick A awaits Rick B, but Rick B proves elusive.

We return to Universe C, where Jerry C returns and accidentally destroys Universe C, and dies himself! Yet another Jerry we spent significant time with.

So Rick A, Morty B, Beth C, Summer C, Clone Beth C and Jerry X move to Universe D, where Rick D, Morty D, Beth D, Summer D, Clone Beth D and Jerry D have all died.

This show is insane.

Great Rick and Morty episode and perfect start to the season
aca-862325 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was cathartic in so many ways. It advances the cannon, gives us a little more context about Ricks past, it references former episodes, it actually has funny Marvel references (sorry vindicators), and most importantly its funny and has a cool sci fi premise. It also addresses my main problem with S5: Rick's family. To me all the funniest episodes of course start with Rick doing cool sci fi ish but then focuses on Morty trying save fart or Beth/Jerry divorce or Jerry trying to get better at golf or Jerry trying to have a family holiday etc. There's an ideal balance and it felt off last season. They were either barely in the episodes or doing boring versions of stuff weve already seen before (like Morty with the horse machine and Summer rebelling/trying to impress grandpa). Ricks family actually were a huge part of this episode and it was much better for it. While there probably wont be as much cannon, hope the rest of season is similar to this one.

Great premiere episode
joakizo5 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Amazing Episode to start out the season not only are we introduced to a new antagonist it turns out its evil Rick a man who has nothing to lose compared to our previous antagonist evil Morty who just wanted to go home. We also got some insight on morty's original dimension and the dialogue between Morty's father was powerful and I really sympathised with him RIP best Jerry in the multiverse. Honestly I can't wait to see how the showdown is going to be with our Rick and evil Rick great premiere episode. I also love how we got some added depth on Rick's character when visiting his original dimension we learn that he still feels guilty and doesn't want to move on but has to.

Very Strong Opening
johnnoveck12 September 2022
On par with season 3 opening and clearly better than both openings of 4 and 5. This episode adds new themes and expands on old ones in ways that are fresh and exciting. I feel like the pace was amazing is really enjoyable to die hard Rick and Morty fans who enjoy continuation of the main story rather than an episode that could be a standalone. Very good start to the season and hopefully the next episodes in this season reflect and take note, especially considering the amazing reviews left on the main story-based episodes for upcoming seasons. The writers should take note of the fans wants and desires and they seem to all be pointing towards these types of episodes. The only thing that I was upset about is the ending can be quite confusing and I had to re-watch it in order to discover what I think happened as many different things were occurring. Definitely brush up on your past Rick and Morty episodes if you haven't already because it will help tremendously!

A very solid start to season 6
fhgogger5 September 2022
After the ups and downs of last season, the expectations for this opener were high - or rather the hopes! - and I'm pleased to see that it doesn't disappoint. Actually it has a lot of what fans came to know and love about Rick and Morty; The mind boggling storyline manages to tie in old fan theories, calls back to previous seasons and adds to the family dynamics. The episode had a lot of depth and even depressing moments, but it was well balanced with action and good laughs. The Beth and Summer arc was a bit weak, but that's absolutely okay, as everything got tied together nicely in the end.

All in all it was not an overly brilliant episode, but it did a lot right, especially stuff that was weak in season 5. For example there were no super cheesy jokes and no weak or forced canon building - it felt like a solid Rick and Morty episode.

underwhelming but expected

Warning: Spoilers
I expected some drastic changes after the last season's ending but everything (mostly) returned to the status quo in the first scene. I can't say i was surprised but i at least hoped that the season premiere would be about rick and morty trying to come back home. The rest of the episode is fine, nothing to write home about but definitely better than most season 5 and season 4 part 1 episodes. Justin roiland seems proud of the season though. I guess we'll have to wait a few weeks to be able to have an actual opinon on the season as a whole. But as a stand alone episode this is a perfectly average episode of rick and morty, albeit one of the weaker season premieres.

A breath of fresh air
zain_ahmed15 September 2022
Finally we get a glimpse of what our Rick is up against. This is a big episode. This was only the 2nd appearance of Rick Prime. We got to dive into our Rick's past and what really transpired that made him who he is now. It only took 6 seasons to finally see Rick Prime in action. Previous appearance was just a memory. I hope it doesn't take another 5-6 seasons for his story to unfold.

Learned a lot more about portal fluids. Maybe there's more to it than what meets the eyes.

Apocalyptic Jerry scene with Morty was so tense and emotional. Great writing!

It was very poetic. At the end, everyone knew their place in the universe.

Rick and Morty are back! But...
Flamingogozer5 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The first episode of the first season kicks off with lots of canon stuff. I do love those, but it feels a little bit forced in this episode. The pacing is way too fast and there are like two big climaxes that end in a blink of an eye. Let's talk about them;

  • Rick and Morty are left stranded on the last remaining piece of the citadel with no portal flued and many mortys. This is where season 5 ends. Whitin the first minute and some mediocre jokes later, this problem is resolved without Rick and Morty doing anything. The remaining Mortys are killing eachother off but are no thread to our Rick and Morty, which leaves you wondering why they would ever put that in the episode at all. It would've been nice to see Rick and Morty survive without their gadgets for a few minutes before being saved.

  • Rick and Morty find the killer of Diane, but won't let you breath to take it in. Rick is trying to find this guy for 5 seasons, and their first interaction is rushed and completely interrupted by some stupid jokes. In the last season, we've seen that Rick has been obsessed with finding the killer of his original wife and daughter. Nonetheless, Rick let him go to help the Beths and Summer, who are not even close to being in big danger. I mean, they killed a dozen of those creatures. It wouldn't be that difficult to kill ONE slightly bigger one. Rick meeting the killer he's spent most of his life chasing and letting him go to save his family from a mediocre threat, lacks emotional pay-off. He has hardly any doubt and doesn't act a bit like the selfish Rick we know. It's a shame because it had so much potential. Making the thread more serious and letting Rick have a hard time choosing between taking revenge for his old family or saving his new, would've raised the emotional stakes to the level we've been used to with Rick and Morty.

It feels like two different episodes are forced into one. This results in a rushed episode. Putting these two big adventures into two episodes would've been a better choice in my opinion. It would've saved more time for storytelling and emotional pay-off.

Anyway, it's always nice to see a new episode Rick and Morty, because you'll never know what you're gonna get. Most jokes land and the animation looks amazing. Sure looking foward to the next episode.

Melodramatic
rnsreanimated5 September 2022
Remember when this show used to parody sci-fi? Remember when this show was funny? I don't get why the writers chose this direction everything feels manufactured and weird. Mean characters can be tolerated if they're funny but the episode is too busy trying to be melodramatic and deep that they don't even attempt to make you laugh. The jokes in this episode consists of characters over explaining stuff , characters referencing stuff and characters stating the obvious or in other words the stereotypical Justin Roiland humor but without any cleverness or charm. Something else that I don't get their is why are they so bitter about the earlier and most confident seasons? This episode represents everything that I dislike about the newer seasons, pointless drama, forced-deep messages, annoying characters and a weird bitterness about the first 2 seasons.

Sometimes Blood Isn't Thicker Than Water
matthewkingeter5 September 2022
Rick and Morty has always had high expectations to meet. But the ending of season 5 might have been the most daunting since the end of season 2.

After a season with so many highs and lows, the team managed to patch things together with one of the best episodes in the entire series. Most fans knew that this first episode was going to make or break the show moving forward.

So did they meet those expectations?

Well that answer will change depending on who you ask, but to me, yes.

There's something refreshing about the show returning to it's roots. Embracing the narrative building season introductions of season 2 &3, but more importantly, further exploring the relationship between the Smith family.

This episode will make a lot of callbacks to previous seasons. Yet it never feels like pandering to the fans, rather a natural progression that the series had long abandoned. The result is some of the most memorable plot twists in ages and some incredible jokes as well.

The aspect that surprised me the most though...was how touching it was. I never knew how much I missed that aspect from this show.

It's nice to see the writers embrace such a simple theme too: family is more than just blood.

Here's hoping to a strong season!

Finally, something I love.
rockodegaming5 September 2022
The entire plethora of TV shows since Rick and Morty season five haven't been that great. If we talk about TV shows in general, we have seen some amazing shows like Moon Knight and Heartstopper. But in terms of cartoon shows, The Simpsons messed it up. I lost my mind after seeing Little Demon and I came to know just today that the sixth season of Rick and Morty came out. Even though I was half-disappointed with the last season, this episode has made me laugh along with the Smith family and Morty stole the show. I am excited for the new villain they've introduced and hope this dude teams up with Evil Morty. Amazing episode. 10/10.

Starts Off Right Where It left from!
srikabiish5 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The season 5 finale (Rickmurai Jack) was among one the best episodes in the entire series leaving us at a perilous cliffhanger with respect to the story. This season starts off from exactly there and boy was it a great idea

The episode overall definitely doesn't disappoint and wastes no time at all coming to the story beginning with the scenes of the damaged citadel and the bodies of the ricks and mortys (and surprisingly ends with an ode to a new super villain that I think potentially might be bigger than Evil Morty himself!!)

Can't wait to see how this new character arc is going to develop!

I must say, season 6 is off with a bang!!

Classic rick and morty episode !!!
pvivek-868165 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I had to write a review after watching the episode . Not only this episodes bring a nostalgia of previous seasons finally we get to see the c137 after freezing the smith family for citadel of ricks episode . Good for c137 jerry finally become cool and great to see the development of smith family after rick and morty abandons them will make them relaise more about themselves its sad to hear summer and beth are gone .It also acknowledges fan discussed stuffs like ticket theory (from jerrybore) . I think its a great start for the season after the cannon ending from previous season . Hope we can see evil morty one last time but as y'all know it is just about getting the szechuan sauce even if it takes nine seasons. Rick and morty forever for hundred years !!

Amazing kickoff
trtpjgqjn5 September 2022
I absolutely love how this show has embraced more of a underlying story. This episode rewards the attention to previous seasons and it makes it all the more exciting to watch! There is so much humanity within each character that really gets time to show up on screen. I don't know if this was always the goal, or if this is a kind of way to show those awful Rick and Morty fans a different way of expressing emotion, but it's great. I think using comedy as a machine to explore issues within ourselves and the world can be a powerful tool. I hope to see more lore, references to past events, and characterization as we keep going this season.

rick and morty is BACK!!!!
mhammadx5 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode brings Rick and Morty back to its former glory and contains everything that made it special and successful before the fourth season. Smart comedy and sophisticated artistic style. They didn't explain everything like in season 5 so that's why idiots can no longer enjoy the show and that's great. We also finally understand Rick's primary goal and understand why he did everything he did. I was hoping that its beginning would be like the beginning of the third season, but unfortunately it was similar to the beginning of the Avengers Endgame, but this is reasonable due to the limited length of the episode. Undoubtedly a great episode!

We've got a new archenemy other than Evil Morty, who seems to be extremely dangerous and even a god like Rick will have a hard time facing him.

Breaking the Portal Gun in season 5 was a drastic change for the series and it seems that its effects are starting to appear in this episode where Rick lost his main strength point so I hope they make a great story out of this plot.

Disappointing Start to the Season
diegostclairengper5 September 2022
Very little happens in this episode... it's fan-servicy to a fault, in a way that Rick and Morty should never be. Season 3 Episode 1 redefined the way I looked at existential/absurdist media by subverting expectations and making me feel stupid for even feeling emotion. This episode does not do this, it does not take any risks in the story. I feel like this episode is something I could've never predicted because it is so predictable. The fact that there were some small moments of genius tucked away in here only serve to make the rest of it more disappointing. Here's to hoping the rest of the season blows me away in the way the show has done (mostly) without fail before.

AMAZING, SEASON 2 VIBES
crintea_george10 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Rick and Morty is back on the track! Season 4 wasn't on everyone's taste, personally, I liked even season 4, but I still thought something missed. Now, with this first episode of season 5 I can totally say that it's amazing how they could turn things like they were in the first place. THIS IS CLASSIC RICK AND MORTY, this is an amazing start, 10 out of 10. This episode contains humor, I laughed a lot, contains action, emotions, everything that R&M is about! It is focused only on the main story, and it isn't filled with unnecessary sequences, Let's go, I absolutely love it! The plot was unexpectable , I even loved the cool version of Jerry, I think they should keep him and focus on him too in the next episodes. Keep it going like that and this season will be a huge success.

Meh, it was just ok'ish
speedman-416618 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Was not bad, was not great but more like it got a "meh" from me. It's an ok episode, nothing bad and nothing really great. Felt like it was a little all over the place, a B line story line integrated into the main episode with the girls night out type of thing, and just so so in the funny department. Also the pace of this episode feels a bit fast / rushed paced but that's just a user's opinion here on my part, otherwise the rest was just fine. I am expecting better episodes as the new season continues and hoping for something to be as great as the all time greatest episode (Citadel) where they just nailed that episode from everything story wise / suspense and excellent music choice to set the mood, that's what i'm hoping we get in season 6.

Kinda expected for a opener of a new season i guess.

Rushed/too much meta
Yeahhh323-7535710 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode had a ridiculous amount of meta dialog/jokes coming from Rick. Right off the bat we get about 5 minutes of Rick mainly talking about things outside of the Universe (the lame camera shot he describes when dying, followed by Twitter, followed by why the writers aren't continuing with Evil Morty), later we get a dumb Minecraft reference, then we get some more "season 2 Jerry" jokes. These are just off the top of my head, I'm missing more I'm sure. It's just never ending meta from these new writers and feels like a lazy cop-out for actual good comedy. I hope this was a one time thing with the opener for season 6 and these writers ease up with the meta references. Rick doesn't need to be breaking the fourth wall every 30 seconds.

Pretty great start to what seems like what will be a great season
loganfettt5 September 2022
I loved the premise for this episode and I think it makes a lot of sense to have an endgame reference as that's what the season 5 finale kinda felt like. I have really high hopes for this season and I hope the more serialized take will have a positive effect. I think there was a bit too many callbacks and meta humor but to be fair the show has pretty much always relied on that type of humor

Overall really good episode and I loved the after credit scene, I really hope they develop that Rick throughout the season and he sorta becomes like a "villain" in some kind of way. Really happy the way this turned out and I hope that this isn't a facade like the start of season 5, hopefully the show creators mean it when they say they put a lot of work into the season and Rick and Morty can fall back into consistently.

Best Episode since The Ricklantis Mixup
dalegcollier-052755 September 2022
An instant classic. Improbably, after the Evil Morty storyline appears to be put to bed, a new villain is introduced who will be even more intriguing. The most satisfyingly canonical episode since Tales From the Citidel. The whole of canon is addressed and brought into fresh focus for the series moving forward. No spoilers here but this episode feels like redemption for a show that lost its way last season. A deep dive into the past and a fresh start to the future. Brilliant.

Personally at this point I hope they move away from canon heavy episodes and get back to season two quality stand alone episodes.
