The show is actually quite autobiographical. Josh Thomas got the idea to write the show after his real life mother attempted suicide and he realized that he had never seen a show on television with a very real and accurate depiction of events like that.
Josh's first love interest Geoffrey was named after a plastic rooster that belongs to Josh Thomas, star and creator of the series.
