Bang-up zombie horror short
Woodyanders14 August 2012
Warning: Spoilers
A freak accident turns most of the world's population into ferocious and ravenous predatory zombies. A small group of uninfected human survivors do their best to survive this harrowing ordeal by seeking refuge in a garage. Meanwhile, mechanic Derek (a stand-out performance by Morgan West) struggles to retain his humanity after he gets bitten by a zombie. Director Colin Theys, working from a taut script by John Doolan, relates the gripping story at a nonstop zippy pace, stages the vicious zombie attack set pieces with rip-roaring skill and gusto, generates plenty of nerve-wracking tension, and delivers a generous amount of grisly splatter. The excellent acting by the uniformly sound cast helps matters a whole lot: West excels in the lead, Adrienne LaValley likewise does well as the feisty Erin, Anthony Marks makes a quick, but effective appearance as the selfish and cowardly Victor, and Sean Gillmore contributes an impressively scary turn as an especially savage and relentless zombie. Given an extra rousing shot of adrenaline by Adrian Correia's slick and dynamic cinematography and the energetic rattling score by Matthew Lewellyn and Sarah Schachner, this tight, absorbing, and exciting short overall sizes up as a real neat little winner.
