Tragicomic
merveswiss1 January 2023
I found the film tragicomic and watched it (especially the last 20 minutes) in tears instead of cheer.

Though the themes such as how the political correctness shows itself in the secular Turkish society and how the youth coming from different intellectual and sociological background deal with the moral issues were worked out with humor, that did not suffice to overcome the despair of the upper class family overall. The discontent of the family, who is throwing the party, has never been resolved from the beginning to the end.

Overall the aim of the film of giving hope and joy regarding of the name "new year's eve" has not been achieved.

Waste of the time
Cemallica2 January 2023
Gulse Birsel should either stop writing screenplays or re-learn. Although this movie is a comedy movie, it is not funny in the least. Cliché comedy elements are used. There is no creativity. It's a shame for the money Disney+ paid for this movie. Watching the whole movie is a complete waste of time.

Gulse Birsel constantly writes scripts with strange characters based on rich families. This movie is an example of Birsel's previous work, but one of her worst. While watching this movie, you will never smile, let alone laugh, because the movie is so bad.

If you want to watch a movie and have fun in the new year, do not choose this movie.

Worst New Year Eve Movie
cansuorhanalp2 January 2023
We had to watch this film, which was a great disappointment, with astonishment.

I unfortunately classify Gülse Birsel's film, which we were waiting for with great expectations, as the worst film I have seen this year.

I'm amazed that so many good actors accepted to such a scenario. It was far below expectations.

A pointless scenario with irrelevant themes chasing each other. For us, it was a complete waste of time.

There was not a single scene where we laughed. It's very sad, and I hope we never watch such a disappointing scenario again. Humor was a long way from this movie................

Definitely worth watching
olivesandvines1 January 2023
Gulse Birsel, one of the notable names of contemporary Turkish comedy made a new year's eve movie definitely worth watching. The movie is very good since it presents Gulse Birsel's humor but in a more critical sense. The movie brings stark criticisms towards contemporary Turkish society and the aura of Turkish politics through the characters that come together incidentally in a new year's eve night celebration during a Covid-19 lockdown. Those well-played characters are people who we know from our lives. In today's Turkey, Gulse Birsel made a blunt, political yet a naive comedy which we missed. The crew, the characters they play and the acting is also very good, except the lack of chemistry between Fatih Aritman and Sebnem Bozoklu.

Worst Birsel movie
deafantasia2 January 2023
Im glad to see Im not the only one whos disappointed After Aile Arasnda I was hoping Glse Birsel would make me go to the cinema for a Turkish comedy film However it was difficult complete to this movie without getting bored even at home I didnt like to leave it unfinished so I finished the movie but the other family members fell asleep The movie gives off a forced feeling both with its jokesthe feeling that something is going to happen at any moment in the sequences it doesntand with its acting performances in general Except for a few small scenes you cannot empathize with the character and miss their positive and negative experiences The lines are mostly unrealistic and feel like they havent been given much attention It was a pity for me who thought that he would watch a really good movie I hope we can see a development in a different direction in the next films.

Warm Movie with Perfect Cast
erdincgateset9 January 2023
Haters are gonna hate...

Gulse Birsel has a different path when compared with the other writers, she is a good observer and knows how to reflect Turkish streotypes to the movie. Yilbasi Gecesi (New Year's Eve) is perfect example which contains different characters from different cultures in Turkey.

I laughed a lot and additonally I felt a lot. Please ignore the haters and trolls. Even If you do not have sense of humour, the movie is still worth watching. Conflicts, dialoges, metamorphosis... All is awesome, I love this movie a lot like all other Gulse's works. If you like this movie, you can also love aile arasinda as well.

So bad and big dissapointment
karyaoktem1 January 2023
I am so suprised cause I had so big expectations for this movie and I am a big fan of Gulse Birsel. I could not finish the movie and skipped many times since I got so bored in general scenerio. Also other actors are so big and successful people so I am shocked how all of them were so okey to shoot this movie without any doubt and after could get sattisfied. So weird. You really dissaponted me Gulse. Characters were so extreme and there was no logic in dialogs in my case.

Ozan Aciktan also good in his work but after Aile Arasi I really didn't get why they decreased the level that much. I hope next works will be better so we can forget this experience.

Waste of time, very disappointing
saynuryanar17 January 2023
Worst work of of Gulse Birsel yet .. Very disappointing to see such a badly written boring scenario Full of cliche jokes and stereotyped characters .. offensive pointless highlights..

it is supposed to be entertaining however almost the whole movie feels uncomfortable. Characters trying way too hard made it a cheap comedy without the laughs.

The film is too long but the story is all over the place. She needs to be more creative and sophisticated with her writing .

Lastly, if she did have the intention to achieve any sense of diversity or inclusiveness at all in this movie , She needs to learn inclusiveness is far from what was done here. It is quite the opposite of marginalization which she sadly achieved.

Frustration - Waste of time
ijourno2 January 2023
I expected the movie to be smartly comic but it was a real frustration. The cast seems to take role in this terrible movie just for money. Waste of time.

The scenario is just about a few people randomly get together and the incidents in the movie seems to be generated just to have a bit fun at Christmas.

Gulse Birsel seems to lose her power in comedy and lost her talent to make money and show herself on screen.

Cengiz Bozkurt and Serkan as been wasted in this movie too. They are hugely talented in Turkish comedy but this movie has written in her resumes as a big frustration and despair as because it is clear that they played in this movie just for cash.

be ready to laugh loudly

Warning: Spoilers
Thx to Gülse Birsel and the whole cast! It was an absurd, sweet very funny movie which made me laugh a lot. I loved the white collar delusion speech by Fatih Artman:) Cast was hillarious, scenario was absurd enough, dialogs were magnificant! I wish this crew would come together for many more productions. And Serkan Keskin was as unique as always, a movie cannot be average when he's a part of it! Farih Artman too. I strongly recomend to the audience who loves to watch preposterous stuff. It becomes better and better when the film goes on. I'm waiting for new movies of the same crew. I would be happy to watch more of it.

Really bad
erhanipekciler1 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know where I have to start but it is really bad movie, cast is ok but what I did watch actually, no idea. First of all story is so boring because in 2022 there is no covid limitation for parties at home, so maybe this story more suitable for last year, it could be funnier. Second thing why always with same cast choice? But good thing thanx God there is no Sarp Apak in the movie, so surprising! Ayta Sozeri is awful choice as always. Why so insist no idea again.. I think Birsel's stories finished with Avrupa Yakasi and no need to force anymore. She is not funny anymore. Anyway maybe without expectation, you can watch, there are some scenes that made me a little smile but that's all.

Amazing
omer-dagyeli8 January 2023
This Gulse Birsen movie is one of the best movies ever. There was "Aile Arasinda" movie Which was also written by Gulse Birsen. That movie was also very good.

I dont want to tell details about the movie but i love all characters. It is very very comic, funny, sometimes sarcastic, sometimes ironic. I watched it 4 times already and each time i saw other details. There are so many funny details in the movie. I highly advice people to watch it. Since it is in turkish, i am not sure How it will be in English but it definetely worths to watch it even in English as well.

Congradulations to all actors and actresses and Gulse Birsen.

Do. Not. Watch.
ipeka16 January 2023
The film is available since 31/12, 17 days total. Ratings are already crashing. If I was the producer, I'd retire and live in a far away village till people forget my name.

If anyone gave more than 5 stars, they either get paid for it or has no taste at all.

This is not funny. Not witty. Not worth a kurus with a hole in it.

Too long, too crowded, too little knots in the plot and the twists are fewer than that. There goes the comedy factor.

Every actor was playing a blurry copy of their previous and well known roles. You get distracted and start to think why and when this guy got married to this woman. The young man was a disaster. The helper of the singer was the only natural, fit to role actor.

Remember the "Party" of Peter Sellers? Yilbasi Gecesi is the thing you'll get if you try to tell it in Taboo.

Worst Christmas/New Year Movie Ever.
yusufpiskin30 December 2022
2022 Disney+ movie written by Gürse Birsel and directed by Ozan Açiktan.

First of all, it is necessary to congratulate the 'Disney+' side. They managed to shoot the worst Christmas/New Year movie of the last 20 years.

Disgraceful performances, terrible cinematography, a terrible script, a director trying to save the day.

The worst work of 'Ozan Açiktan'.

The worst work of 'Gürse Birsel'.

The worst job of any of the actors and actresses in the cast.

There isn't a single good thing about the movie that can be touched.

And on top of that, the duration of the movie is 141 minutes.

All the phenomenal accounts that gave this movie more than half a point on Letterboxd were given because the staff members were friends or not to lose their chance to join Disney+ organizations.

Not to mention the more disgraceful song selections.

A complete waste of time
ahmet100411 January 2023
There is only one word to say and that is "disaster", It is such a film that a regular you-tube video is much more better. Having seen the core cast from popular TV series I had expected to watch a lot of fun and quality jokes touching the heart of today's agenda. Unfortunately, most of the action and jokes were quite simple and ordinary, straightforward and lacking any sign of creativity. It contains no ability to make smile, no entertainment. The movie itself was made poorly, the actors were like they were performing a 4th grade musical. Unnecessary exaggeration, nonsense of story. Just waste of time.

laughed heartily and had great fun
selcukavci-840873 January 2023
I watch the film with seven other people. Our ages were between 19-45. I can't really understand the negative reviews, I think they go back more to the connotations regarding the political situation in Turkey. So more defamation of a Gülse Birsel film than a real review. Anyway, we all thought the film was great. We laughed heartily and had great fun. Of course, the film appeals more to Turkish humor, but it's still funny and entertaining. Great ensemble, interlinking of the stories, good situational comedy and comprehensible twists do the rest.

Maybe the only thing is that it was definitely shot in a warmer month. That rather dampens the new year's eve mood than it should, but in Antalya you can still go swimming at that time.

Sorry, waste of time
falihk9931 December 2022
Ms Birsel used to make modern comedies, making you really laugh for more than 15 years. Characters, scripts, set-up are mismatched in this movie. Script is based on a rich family's New Year Eve gathering with their neighbors, which that don't know much at all. She is also an actress in this movie, like all of her movies. Her performance is not linked to the character. Cengiz Bozkurt and Boran Kuzum were very good. Her last movie (Aile Arasinda) was on 2017 and her performance both as the script writer and actress were far better. Director of the both movies are the same. All the other actress/actors seems to do well; still the movie cannot entertain you, script failure. Was not funny at all.
