"What shall I give you.?". "But you've already given me tons of things". "What did I give you?". "The sunrise, the sunset, the starry sky, the wind, courage, hope...".

Sigh...

I absolutely adore how beautifully this drama is made, the editing and production too. ( and the music!)

The scenery and the locations where it was recorded are so out of this world and so gorgeous you will find yourself googling trying to see how much the flights to Kunming are.

A series thats extremely emotional, raw and heartbreaking pulling your heartstrings and making you thinking A LOT about the meaning of life and what's important. A journey of the female lead trying to overcome her feelings when her best friend dies but also the beautiful stories of everyone she meets during that journey.

When you finish you will feel elated, filled with hope and renovated. The message is very lifting and hopefully you change your perspective about life and start doing things that makes you happy and not what society expect from you.

The acting is just natural, it looks like they are just living their life and someone left a camera and recorded everything by accident.

Crystal Liu has a very unique, sweet and subtle way of acting and I have been a fan since I watched the amazing A dream of splendor.

But my surprise was to see Li Xian in this role, I have only watched him on Go Go Squid and woow what a change. His previous role was the super typical cliché bad cold guy that they love in cdramas (he literally frowns during the whole series). But in this one??? He will make you melt. Naturally charming, goofy and tender, he won't stop smiling. I genuinely enjoyed his role and how he played this character. I also need to mention this has to be the LEAST toxic male lead ever he was just empowering and confident the whole time.

The chemistry between the leads is great although is a very real life kind of relationship, so don't expect typical romance cliches you are used to in dramaland you won't find them here. But that's a good thing.

I would have maybe given less rating because the drama is the literal definition of slow burn, very slooooow and if you are impatient like me, you will struggle at times. But you have to stop, focus on what's happening and the conversations going ( all of them very relevant) and enjoy the journey.

Watch it, you won't regret it and I hope they will make more dramas like this!

First Chinese drama that I truly loved
droche-4996617 August 2023
While I have enjoyed watching many Chinese dramas, I always felt there was something lacking in all of them. Maybe it was creativity or chemistry between the leads or poor acting by some of the characters. This one however is so terrific that the small flaws are more than compensated by the wonderful characters, beautiful cinematography and the enchanting story of the grief stricken, burnt out hotel executive who takes a break from life at a charming rural village. The show is chockful of intriguing characters and their back stories. The granny is "THE" granny everyone would love in their life. The male lead is virtuous, handsome and enterprising yet clumsy in love. I have never wanted to travel to China until I watched this show and now would love to travel to the area. It highlights the traditions, craft and food of the Bai people but it is very well integrated into the story so it never feels out of place. I could not recommend this show enough.

Tender, touching & well-produced
fleachoo15 June 2023
This is my second foray into a C-drama series. I thought it might be cutesy and slapstick like many others but this series is far from it. The 40-episode commitment almost put me off but the trailer appealed to me because of its soft approach to humanity.

To be honest, I almost gave up after episode 1 because I was already crying buckets. I thought if the rest of the series was like this, I wouldn't be able to make it through the series. I somehow perservered because the series captured the quaint village, its lifestyle, quirky characters and beautiful countryside.

The dialogue is written well - especially for the lead roles. The conversations are real and meaningful, giving you good insights into human emotions and behaviour.

The two lead actors Liu Yifei and Li Xian are of course not new to acting. They carried out their roles well, making you root for them almost right from the start. Li Xian is very convincing as a country boy with some city life experience; Liu Yifei is the cool city chick who comes to the quaint village to fulfil a promise. Good casting of the leads because they are totally believable as a couple.

Watch it, cry a little, then watch key scenes over again!

Great drama, Liu Yifei is amazing as always!
movieandmusic-0869715 January 2023
This drama is very different from other c-dramas I have seen. The story reflects a lot of social issues but still tells the story in a romantic way. The cinematography is just spectacular. The scenery in Yunnan is so beautiful! Liu Yifei is beautiful and amazing as always! Her character and her acting resonate with me a lot! She is a great actress. I highly recommend this c-drama to everyone, especially those undergoing great pressure in their lives. It really resonates with our everyday lives and all the pressure and issues that we're going through. All cast did a great job. This drama would definitely be one my favorites c-dramas!!

Heartwarming drama
cyxgzf23 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I like this drama as it is easygoing and reminds people of what is most important in life. We are often drowned by our environment and the pursuit of this world. In our life journey, we often lose ourselves until we encounter some kind of calamity. A that point, we may decide to continue on living the same old same old or we may choose a path that is less travelled and venture out. The lives of Xu Hongdao and Xie Zhiyao crossed paths even though they come from very different backgrounds. Both of them are at the peak of their ages and hence life decisions are crucial to determine how their future may lead to.

I love the way that this drama was shot in a small town in China. It gives me an opportunity to see how peaceful and beautiful the life and people are in those places. They way it was shot also made me feel relaxed while watching. It's like the title in Chinese "Bring me to the place with wind". It's like a breeze watching it.

Just lovely
icalistri5 November 2023
Enchanting, heartwarming, and artistically slow paced drama about a small, backwater town and the efforts to bring about ways for its inhabitants to improve their lives and stay in the town rather than seek jobs in the city. The setting is absolutely beautiful, and the acting so good I sometimes dream of the characters as if they were real people. It's one of the few dramas I wish would never end. The music is beautiful too. I've watched a few Chinese dramas after a steady fare of K-dramas, and this is the first one that isn't cutesy/ silly or forced. For the first time I want to travel to China!

A Heartwarming Tapestry of Love and Family: 'Meet Yourself' Review"
peterseowaci27 May 2023
A delightful and heartwarming movie that celebrates the power of relationships, family love, and romance in a small, close-knit village. Directed with care and finesse, the film beautifully captures the essence of community and the bonds that connect its diverse inhabitants.

Set in the picturesque countryside, the story revolves around the lives of several families and individuals living in a charming village. As we dive into their everyday lives, we witness the intricate web of relationships and the unique dynamics that exist within this tight-knit community.

Beyond the central romance, "Meet Yourself " skillfully weaves together several subplots, each delving into different aspects of relationships and family dynamics. From the heartwarming bond between a grandmother and her grandsons to the unconditional love shared between siblings, the film adeptly portrays the various facets of love in all its forms.

The ensemble cast delivers outstanding performances, effortlessly breathing life into their characters. Their chemistry and genuine portrayals create an immersive experience, allowing the audience to connect deeply with their joys, sorrows, and triumphs.

What sets this film apart is its ability to evoke a strong sense of community. The small village serves as a character in itself, with its quaint streets and bustling marketplaces. The attention to detail in the production design transports viewers into this idyllic world, where neighbors look out for one another and everyone is invested in each other's happiness.

The movie is a visual treat, with breathtaking cinematography that captures the rustic beauty of the village and its surrounding landscapes. The film's gentle pace allows the audience to immerse themselves fully in the lives of the characters, and the soothing soundtrack adds an extra layer of warmth and charm to the storytelling.

Overall, "Meet Yourself" is a feel-good film that celebrates the power of love, family, and community. It reminds us of the importance of human connections, the beauty of simple pleasures, and the strength we find when we lean on one another. This wholesome family story leaves the audience with a warm glow in their hearts and a renewed appreciation for the bonds that make life truly meaningful.

A warm blanket in a cold relentless world.
corneilius_uk16 June 2023
Xu Hong Dou is career orientated, she is front desk manager at a 5 star Beijing Hotel who has not had a holiday for 3 years because she wants advancement. She is devoted to her job has no relationship, answers her phone at all hours to deal with problems and shares a flat with her college friend who also works in the tourist industry and spends a lot of time travelling. A tragic event in the first episode jolts her out of her mindset and she realises she has nothing more to give so quits her job and honours a promise to travel to Yunnan province for a holiday.

She ends up in a farmstead with several other quirky characters who are also lost and healing and she forms an immediate support group helping each other through tough periods and forming lifelong friendships.

Hong Dou relaxes onto the slower pace, and begins to realise what is important in life, not advancement and strict routine but friendships, relations and enjoying the moment.

Xie Zhi Yao has returned to the vilage after graduating and quiting a job in Bejing in finance, he hates to see his childhood friends struggling and having to leave the village for a better life in the city so has suported several ventures. Internet store, tourist attractions and craft workshops to make the village a desirable destination and build employment.

However the main character here is the environment, shot in a beautiful rustic setting, the side characters are all engaging. The internet web novelist struggling for inspiration, the rich girl who is hiding a secret, the musician living in fear of his father or the tea guru spending his days practising Yoga. And thats just the farmstead. The grannies with their traditional head dresses and the village kids make this the drama you need to watch if you need to chill out, wind down and relax.

Can't wait to rewatch this gem
nanakitsch8 September 2023
If you want to watch a cdrama without permanent shouting and a FL that isn't the classic tiny girl that talks like a teenager that is so annoying... you will love this series.

40 episodes and I never got boring, all characters are special and have their own life story. I am a fan of romance and I usually get anxious because I want to see love and kisses... but in Meet yourself love is slowburn and it completely makes sense. And, you know it will be okay... it's a comfort drama.

The leads are amazing!! They are sooo beautiful, nice, lovely, independent, they care for each other (and all the community!).

Please, please watch this amazing comforting lovely cdrama. You won't regret it.

Calm and cool drama
joyfulsutrisno4 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I like this drama's way of "promoting" rural areas and communities. In it's subtle way, it leads viewers to appreciate the cultures of those areas and consider getting to know them better. The drama does not have complicated plots. It's "lightness" makes one feels comfortable watching it. There are no stunning moments that make viewers excited or curious. That's life and how the drama portrays it honestly. The two leads are very pleasant looking actor and actress. They have their own rights in the Chinese drama industry. It's a good choice to pair them up as they look good together in many ways.

This is a drama for those who just want to have a peaceful watching.

Nostalgic hit to the heart
karl-dav06 December 2023
I'm not the type to watch mainstream media but as someone who has done a lot of backpacking, including in Yunnan, Meet Yourself filled me with nostalgia for simpler times. The experience of a bunch of misfits turning up to the same location and serendipitously making great friendships is a beautiful and rare thing, but an experience known to many that have spent years on the road.

The scenic setting in Yunnan is also critical to the experience of the show. Hard to think of anywhere better in the world for a show like this to be filmed.

I may be too old these days to relive those times, but I was briefly able to by watching Meet Yourself. Beautiful show.

If you feel down, watch this
farzanabakhtiary31 March 2024
The acting is perfect. The location is awesome. The actors, actress are outstanding. The storyline is so touching. You can relate to every emotion in the drama. If you are tired of your daily routine and want to watch something that make you relax, decompress you, and give you hope, watch this. Now when I am trying to watch any other dramas, my mind try to compare it with "Meet Yourself". I wish, I have just started watching it again so I could enjoy this drama again. Although I know, I will come back to rewatch it in a few months/years.

I wish we all the courage and the luxury to be able to leave everything behind when we need the most and go somewhere that no one knows us and perhaps start again.
