World of the Dead (2011)
*** (out of 4)
Sixteen-minute featurette has interviews with ZOMBIE cinematographer Sergio Salvati and production/costume designer Walter Patriarca. Both men appear very happy with the end results of the Lucio Fulci film and Salvati spends most of his time talking about how important the look was for the picture and especially when it came time to film the zombies. Salvati talks about needing the zombies to appear very ugly so to get this effect he decided to light them from below so that it would create a different type of shadow than what people are used to seeing. He also talks about the different cameras used to film the eye/splinter scene and why so much editing was needing to pull it off. Patriarca mainly talks about making sure the zombies looked their part meaning that their black clothes were faded and that their white clothes looked like they should have been damaged over time. He also goes into great detail about his mission set, which he is obviously very proud of and the last thing he did to it to make sure it looked more realistic. If you're a fan of ZOMBIE then it goes without saying that you're going to be interested in this stuff but if you're not a fan of the Fulci film then it's best to stay away.
