This Westworld review contains spoilers.
Westworld Season 3 Episode 7
How someone feels about the third season of Westworld can be determined by a number of factors, but one of the most important ones is shaping up to be how a viewer feels about Caleb Nichols (Aaron Paul) and his place in the Dolores Abernathy Expanded Universe. An actor like Aaron Paul doesn’t tend to be brought on board to be a part-time player, and as the third season has progressed, Caleb and his mysterious past have become more and more important to the narrative, like how bit players would be pulled into the schemes of the guests in the park. Once upon a time, William led Dolores across the park in search of adventure. Now, Dolores is leading Caleb across North America in pursuit of her own grand adventure, except this change in the narrative isn’t reset at the end of the month.

This week’s episode of “Westworld” finally took us to Shogun World, where Maeve discovered Akane, her geisha counterpart.
“We may have cribbed a little bit from Westworld,” admitted buffoonish programmer Lee Sizemore. “You try writing 300 stories in three weeks!”
Don’t worry, Lee: Westerns and samurai films did plenty of cribbing from each other, too. With Shogun World, “Westworld” creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan winked at decades of cultural crossover between Western directors like John Sturges and samurai auteurs like Akira Kurosawa.

“Westworld” fans have been waiting for a look at Shogun World ever since samurai were spotted in the Season 1 finale. It took the series until the fifth episode of Season 2 to get a peek inside this park, and the wait was worth it. The bulk of the episode takes place in Shogun World, which evokes the Edo period of Japan and sees Maeve (Thandie Newton) grow into the most powerful host in the park. Dive into the action and revelations of “Akane no Mai” below.
The Mesa – Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) watches the Delos rescue team clean up the massacre at The Mesa. Humans are put in body bags while dead hosts are rounded up in hopes they can one day be reprogrammed. One employee makes a startling revelation that about one third of the hosts appear as though they’ve been wiped. It’s as if there was never any data stored inside them.

Sony's Vita may not have been the storming success it had hoped, but it's full of games waiting to be discovered, as Jake explains...
Sony's PlayStation Vita recently turned three years old in the west. Despite being comparable in strength to a PlayStation 3, it still lives in the shadow of Nintendo's 3Ds and numerous smart devices.
The initial high price of the hardware and memory storage, coupled with a lack of Aaa exclusives at its launch, put a dent in its sales which the Vita never really recovered from. Touted as a full console experience at the start, the Vita has since morphed into something a little more unusual and more interesting.
Although Sony have said there's little chance of any new major releases, there's a bit more to this system than a yearly Assassin's Creed title. Here, we take a look at the most compelling reasons to purchase a Vita!

The premiere of Constantine (Oct. 24 at 10 p.m. Et on NBC) will introduce many viewers to Welsh-born actor Matt Ryan, who stars as the titular demon hunter and master of the occult made famous in DC Comics' Hellblazer series. But when Ryan stopped by EW, we got a head start. We learned he uses classical music to get into character (Schoenberg is great for getting into those dark places, he says). He had been reading the Hellblazer comic books before he went to bed, but he found himself having strange dreams, so now he unwinds by putting on nature...

ABC has already gotten into the Marvel serialization game in a big way by bringing us their story of Agent Coulson magically coming back from the dead and manning his secret organization once again, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and now by picking up the 1940′s noir throwback starring the most badass lady spy on the planet to ever steal a supersoldier’s heart, Agent Carter. Fox will soon be joining the DC family with Gotham Babies Gotham, the prequel Batman series that chronicles Commissioner Gordon’s time working in the plagued city before gaining power and influence and a mustache. So it’s about damn time that NBC, that network that’s not doing too well right now, hops on the comic book train and starts adapting like, pronto. They recently announced that they’ve chosen to go DC (ride or die), and take on the story of one John Constantine (from the comic Hellblazer) with...

Armistice is an acquired taste for sure. I can easily imagine just as many detractors as supporters for this one and I get it. Its simply not going to work for someone who prefers a fastpaced film or a wide group of characters or explosive action scenes for that matter. However those who find it compelling to climb inside of a mans mind for the sole purpose of studying its inner workings Armistice is a clear hit. This shoestringer earns big points from me and the bulk of my praise goes in the direction of writerdirector Luke Massey (who wrote the story with Benjamin Read) and A.J. Budd who does a magnificent job of taking on the burden of holding up an entire film exclusively (on screen mind you). Kudos gents.

The lead role in NBC's "Constantine" reboot appears to have been found as reports are coming in that Matt Ryan (Armistice, "Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior," "The Tudors") is finalizing an agreement with the network and Warner Bros. TV.
Per Deadline, Welsh actor Ryan will portray the DC Comics character John Constantine, an enigmatic and irreverent con man-turned-reluctant supernatural detective who is thrust into the role of defending humanity against dark forces from beyond.
Constantine is described as a working-class Londoner with rakish good looks, scruffy blond hair, deadpan humor, and signature trench coat, who has been studying the dark arts since he was a teenager. When the daughter of a late friend is targeted by demons, Constantine steps in to save her.
The pilot was written by "The Mentalist" executive producer Daniel Cerone and David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight, Batman Begins, Man of Steel, "Da Vinci’s Demons"). Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers,...

(Cbr) It looks like NBC may have filled a certain occult anti-hero's trenchcoat. According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC is close to casting Matt Ryan as the title character in "Constantine," a Warner Bros. Television drama based on DC Comics' John Constantine. Ryan, who is originally from Wales, has previously appeared in such films as "Layer Cake," "Armistice" and "Flypaper," as well as the TV shows "The Tudors," "Criminal Minds" and its spinoff, "Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior." He also voiced the lead character Edward Kenway in the video game "Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag." According to THR, Daniel Cerone ("Dexter") will pen...

If you like Joseph Morgan, you’ll love Armistice. If you don’t like Joseph Morgan, Armistice just might change your mind. Joseph plays A.J. Budd, a Royal Marine who wakes up one morning and discovers he is alone, locked in an unfamiliar house. There is absolutely no escape, no TV, no radio, no books. His only excitement is a monster that appears every morning, forcing A.J. to fight for his life. Hidden deep in a hollow spot in the wall, he discovers letters and realizes he is not the first to suffer this fate.
We spoke to Joseph about carrying a film, executive producing, and we even slipped in a Vampire Diaries / The Originals question.

Recently we caught up with "The Originals'" Joseph Morgan to talk a bit about his latest film, Armistice, as well as playing the anti-hero and of course the finer and favorite parts of portraying Klaus Mikaelson. Read on for the goods.
First, Morgan spoke about what attracted him to Armistice. "Working with the director, Luke Massey, was the main thing that attracted me to the project. I worked with him on a short film previously with Matt Ryan, who played the other role in Armistice. Luke was the director of photography, and it was just a great experience."
"Luke was very much into the same films as I was and the same comics and books so we geeked out a lot together. When he presented me with Armistice, which is his directorial debut, and then I met Ben [Read], who wrote the film with him, it just seemed like the...

After Drew Goddard‘s The Cabin in the Woods, the concept of a house carefully designed and rigged full of gruesome creatures doesn’t seem so farfetched anymore. The 2012 film crammed a group of stereotypes — the jock, the stoner, the promiscuous girl, etc. — in a secluded forest vacation home for a weekend filled with anything and everything you could think of that would make a horror movie tick. From a necronomicon, to a group of hillbilly zombies, to a murderous mermaid, there are horrors behind every corner. The intricacies of the cabin that these unlucky co-eds chose for their spring break are, as it turns out, being controlled by a secret worldwide organization running what’s both a gameshow and something far more sinister. Every move they’ve made and every monster they’ve encountered is planned and executed by an outside force looking in on their screams and pleas for help. Poor...

We’re back with another edition of the Indie Spotlight, highlighting recent independent horror news sent our way. Today’s feature includes VOD release information for Armistice, multiple teaser trailers, a Q&A with Matt Thompson from Bloodline, and a preview of Dept. of Monsterology:
Dept. of Monsterology: ”Officially, it’s the Department of Cryptozoology, Mythological Studies, Parapsychology and Fortean Phenomena. But to the rest of the students and staff at the Dunsany College, baffled by the cloak of secrecy that surrounds the Department and its affairs, it has another, more dismissive, name: The Department of Monsterology. Funded by the mysterious Hampton Foundation, the Dept. operates several field teams that roam the globe on extended research expeditions.
Their brief: to investigate the dark and unexplored corners of our world – the places we’ve forgotten, lost or believe to be mythical. And to study those things that may still be lurking there.

The Cannes Film Festival kicks off on Wednesday, but even outside of films In Competition, as part of the Un Certain Regard section or in the Cannes Directors' Fortnight and Critics' Week sidebars, the field will also be extremely crowded in Cannes Market, where studios and producers come to hawk their wares to buyers. Double Dutch Media is one such company and they have a diverse slate of nine films unspooling in the marketplace this year. One of the more intriguing offerings is "Warhouse," a brutal psychological (and supernatural) thriller about one man's fight to preserve his humanity and sanity over years of terrible imprisonment.
The film is led by Joseph Morgan (Klaus Mikaelson on CW's "The Vampire Diaries," "Immortals") along with Matt Ryan ("Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior," "Flypaper") and William Troughton and is directed by newcomer Luke Massey. Here's the official synopsis and below, an exclusive clip from the...
