First thing is that all of the designs were beautiful and thoughtful. Concept was interesting and at least appeared feasible. However, the show lacked a good structure. A lot of time spent on made up drama's and doing unnecessary 'tests' back at the warehouse. While I love the host as an actress, she added nothing to this show.

The "team leader" seems like it's not a thought-though concept. She seems like a cool girl but she doesn't seem to serve a purpose. The staged bits are reaaaallllyyy obvious..like dropping something big and being "shocked". It's happened in several episodes. So the acting is just quite bad. Everyone seems nice though and I like the designs, not like that other show on Netflix where half the show is their kids and every design is the same.
One thing - why did they put the baby in the closet with no window? :D Makes no sense.

A lot of people don't like the host but I love her energy. She is hilarious and adds so much liveliness to an already frenetic set-up. And she does help around. I just watched The One That Got Away and that show's host is more unnecessary than this one. I like how she relates to the family members as well, it's sincere.
I just don't get the 12-hour window. Like why? For innovation purposes? The paint hasn't cured and while everything looks fantastic, I can't help but wonder about the quality.
The guys are all eye candy. So there's that.

The show premise itself, is very interesting. Like any remodeling show, there are nice stories and the final product is good. But the host, who has no particular responsibility except from shouting throughout the whole episode, it is too much. She has to tone it down.

The concept is nice. The Vision was there. The execution is lacking. Too much screaming and fake excitement?! I do not know why American reality shows always have soooo much screaming, I mean who likes getting their eardrums burst?
Expected pretty designs but got random cuts back and forth in time instead.

The whole team/cast were great. Loved the host's energy and her engagement with the families. The designs they created for each home were beautiful. I hope there will be more seasons.

At first I wondered what the team leader (host) actually did. Turns out not much. She was added for her personality I guess as she does add a certain energy.
After a while you notice patterns. Danielle always phones the families at 6:30pm and they always say they're coming home so the crew have to speed up. I think this is added for extra drama. Then there's the little mishaps that happen, some things just seem staged. And one episode they lower a window onto a roof with a ... helicopter! Couldn't they have used a CRANE??!? They much have an endless budget ffs?!
And then there's the actual families and their homes. They don't actually have bad homes, most of them are HUGE and look quite presentable. They often go with the statement "we haven't yet had a chance to decorate etc", but yet the homes look better than most homes! Something doesn't seem right. How about choosing a family living in a really bad house that needs a lot of work to transform? I'm sure they need the help more. As some of the families they chose for this show are actually kind of rich.
Generally I think it's a decent feel good thing which means well but falls a bit short.

So I just spent all day binge watching this show. The people doing the projects are funny and the people getting the renovations are like the most selfless people. Just about ever episode has moments that get your heart racing and moments that make you tear up with empathy for these deserving kind souls.
We need more feel good reality shows that pull on the viewer's heart strings (like Instant Dream Home). If you're a human being with a non-robotic heart you should 100% give this show a watch. I give it two thumbs wayyy up.
Plus you can tell they do things to ensure the price value of the home doesn't skyrocket (they work within the structure of the house vs adding square footage).

This is a fun show. It moves quickly, but it's fun. The host, Danielle ruins it for me. She's overly dramatic and it feels like she's trying way too hard. I find myself fast forwarding through her scenes. The other members of the team are great! Danielle, however, offers no value to the team or the show.
*** After watching a few more episodes, I find that the design team, though well-intended, don't seem to understand how a family operates within a home. They store all of the families' personal items to make for a nice aesthetic, but the designs won't work when you bring their personal items back. They removed the family room from the home of a family of 11! They forgot to make space for the family to homeschool and didn't bring the homeschool items back into the house. None of the design team have children. This is a flaw in all of their plans.

Rule number one in TV is treat your audience with respect and don't insult their intelligence. This show does not do that. Cringey over produced set ups that fool no one. Cameras everywhere yet the makeovers are supposed to be a surprise, obviously fake phone calls and equally fake reactions. The interactions between the designers are so badly acted. In fact all of this casts doubt on whether or not these are actually done in 12 hours as they claim. The only saving grace is that the makeovers are actually pretty good so my advice is skip to the 30 mins mark and watch the transformations as everything else is just bad TV. 5 Stars and that's being generous.

I have a hard time hearing about the religious affiliations of these families. It immediately makes me care.....less.....about them, unfortunately. I cannot help it. Oh well. Ill go watch the Property Brothers. ..or The Block....or Chopped. I dunno ...anything where they don't extoll the virtues of people who are living a good and churched up life style. I know I may be in the minority, and praise praise and hallelujah and all that, but i can really like a person or family on a reality show and the second I find out they are some sort of religioun follower................ I ....... Am. ..... OUT.

The team leader is exaggerating and it's very disturbing but the show is good. Although there are many similar ones, it can be watched. I wonder what happens to personal items? :)
First of all, the host, as beautiful as she is, is terribly annoying. Actually all the lead characters are loud, fake & super annoying. I like the concept of the series but it's hard to get over the annoying screaming and yelling in excitement all the time. So I scrolled forward to the end to see what had been done. I enjoyed the makeovers. Some of the things they did were very innovative. But what I found the most annoying is the fact that every "deserving" person just happened to be extremely religious and a leader in their church and all the good they did through their church and so on.
For me it was like having these gawd-awful Christian values shoved down my throat. I don't care what your religious views are, I respect them, but keep them out of my face. If people want to good, that is great, but to do it for the sake of "Christian values" stinks in my opinion. All people should do good, not because of a religious belief but because that is what it is to be a good fellow human. Period. I love Christianity for its contribution to art but that does not cancel out the millions of people who have been (and are being) killed, tortured and still are being treated like terribly because of and in the name of Christianity (3/4 of Africa as well as most of South America, Poland, Russia and so on, all have laws against being gay all thanks to Christianity.) So. Great concept. But really crappy that religious views get dumped down our throats. And terribly annoying characters.

Mixed feelings about this one. Host has a certain personality which I do think contributes to the final excitement and emotion of the family once they get to see the finished house.
Parts of the show seem extremely staged and I highly doubt they completed all the jobs in one day. For instance, they've dropped a marble kitchen slab and revealed the chipped corner, that can be clearly seen was already chipped before it dropped. I understand that it might've fallen off camera and they staged it again just to record, but I find this to be highly deceptive and unnecessary. On the other occasion, custom window broke. Supplier said 4-6 weeks for a new one, and then new one magically appears and they reveal the house to the family at 4 pm (according to hosts' Apple Watch), but was initially said that families are out of the house from 7 am - 7 pm. And I highly doubt they've completed all the jobs and got new window and finished 3 hours early.
Also, not that I mind, but all the families were selected based on their 'contribution to the society', and all of them are (coincidentally?) heavily involved in their Church activities, or they own a church, or they give food through church or volunteer at church or something similar.

Do most people complaining that so many of the episodes show Christian families not realize the majority of this country are Christian, church-going families?! It was REFRESHING to watch a show that included people that live like most of us do, as the vast majority of tv dramas are the exact opposite and NEVER include any Christians, and especially not Protestants, which are the majority of Christians in this nation! Atheists make up only THREE PERCENT of this nation, & it's high time that there be some shows that realize that!
I agree that there is the same type of scripted "problems" in each show, but I've found that to be true of almost every renovation show out there.

Nice show. Give you the "good feeling". But what I didn't like was all the emphasis and comments like "my people " seems a bit selective considering it's almost an all gay/black renovation show lol. Love the host tho she is super funny only chose to start watching it because of her cause her personality is infectious.

I really hate those screaming, over-emotional, dramatic hosts. Danielle brings nothing to the show other than distraction. The show is an interesting premise although you could find more deserving recipients in some cases. And lose the pointless drama. It's not necessary.
Just came on here to say that I love the host and don't agree with the negative reviews. She's lovely and funny and I enjoy her energy and excitement. The culture of the show is more fun with her being a part of it!

First thing, I enjoyed the show. I've got to keep that in mind. But with every episode, I kept asking myself questions about practical realities. I found myself asking.
What about building permits?
What about inspections?
What about code violations?
What about neighborhood color requirements?
What about Homeowner Association restrictions?
In one episode, they add on a new bathroom to the house. Typically, you can't just do this on a whim!
In another, they add/build a "tree house." Typically, you can't just add a new building on the property without permits and permissions!
See what I'm getting at?
And how about the neighbors? In one episode, they go into a neighborhood that seems dedicated to Red Brick. That appears to be part of the character and image of the neighborhood. And then they paint the Red Brick blue? Yes, it looked good. But in the context of the neighborhood, it might now be considered a horrible eyesore! It might be considered an insult to the character and tone of the neighborhood!
If suddenly the City (or the neighbors) decide to take issue because they believe they've done something "wrong," who pays to make it right? To fix it? To fight it?
Even as I enjoyed every episode, I couldn't help asking myself again and again, "But what about...? "
Lastly, I kept asking myself...
Am I really supposed to believe that in this day and age of nosey neighbors and cell phones, phone cameras and the desire to be a 'spoiler'........... that no one called these families to tell them what was going on at their homes? Really? No one? Pffft! Not buying it!

I love renovation shows and this particular one has clearly come about due to producers trying to make renovations as exciting as possible - by doing the renovations in 12 hours. It's very American - lots of jumping around and unnecessary screaming, fake outrage / fake excitement. That said it's still a good watch as Danielle Brooks is adorable, even if she is singing or yelling 24/7.
The bit that let's it down is they helped on most occasions Christian church people (I think the majority were people who ran churches) with millions of slobby, messy kids. None of them are going to look after their houses judging by the filth they lived in first.
Would have liked to have seen people other than the majority Christian church owning people be the recipients. I'm pretty sure disabled and those who have financial issues due to the pandemic and economic downturn are more worthy recipients than these church owners with huge houses who just don't have time to renovate...

First off, let me just say, y'all hate Black women and it shows! The host was absolutely amazing and one of my favorite elements of the show. Her energy was needed and is felt for this type of show!
There are so many negative comments about the structures and even the baby room, but look at where the homes are coming from and the families seem to be in love, so I really don't understand all the negativity. This world needs more love and light, and that's exactly what this show provided for the families and viewers!
