This game is highly dissapointing. Personally I am not one for weapons in horror games, when you get a weapon almost all of the atmosphere and threat dies down. That being said this game suffers for it's lack of weaponry.
Every sparse piece of information provided during the development of this game and even a playable demo released a few years back pointed towards this being a blend of horror and action, with the playable demo having gunplay.
Yet now on release after people have paid for it we quickly realise that the game that is being sold is not at all the game that was pithched and teased all those years. It is nothing more than a walking simulator amnesia rip off created by a team of perverts.
Imagery is a powerful thing in a game, of course it is, but this game is no silent hill. There are no subtle foreshadowing moments, there are no parallels to be drawn between the horrific world around you and the mind of the protagonist, it is just blatant perversion for no reason. It is a world where every single thing you can interact with is a fleshlight. The doors, walls and elevators are activated by sticking your fingers and/or fists into squelching fleshy holes, guns are "held" by ramming your fist into them, the interface device that you get in the first 5 minutes is attached by putting your fist into a fleshlight dangling from the wall. Tunnels used to connect different indoor areas are moved/joined by extending fleshy tunnels to surround them before you can walk across, when pulling tubes out of machines they squirt a white liquid all over the place and then just hang there flacid and dripping.
There is nothing atmospheric or tense or creative or interesting or thought provoking about this game. It is a walking simulator with less gameplay than a 2010 indie horror game, an aesthetic that is so similar to H. R. Giger's work that he could probably sue them for infringement and everything within the environment are all just fleshlights for you to walk around fingering/fisting random devices all for no rhyme or reason.
We were pitched and sold a high concept, highly stylistic horror game, what we got is a puzzle game with more sexual imagery and less subtetly than duke nukem forever.
