Screenwriter Thomas Fenton (Saw IV, I Spit On Your Grave 2) is the latest guest in our Q&A series. The horror writer took time to share his experience working on I Spit On Your Grave 2 and offers advice to aspiring screenwriters:
Can you tell our readers a bit about your previous work that led up to you taking on I Spit On Your Grave 2?
Years ago I wrote a script called Prodigal Son – it was set up at Beacon Pictures with Twisted Films producing. Ultimately, the deal fell through but that put me on the Saw radar. It was my work on that franchise that led to work on IS2.
How did you become involved on the sequel to I Spit On Your Grave? Was this a story that you pitched to the producers or you were hired specifically to work on an idea they had?

Remember the 2010 remake of I Spit On Your Grave that was directed by Steven R. Monroe. It cause a bit of a fuss when it came out a few years back and I’m thinking this sequel will probably do the same. It’s hitting Blu-ray on Sept. 24th and today I’ve got a new trailer and a look at the box art for ya.

★★☆☆☆ Evoking The Blair Witch Project (1999) with its opening snippets of residents alluding to a local urban legend, at first glance Community (2012) appears to be yet another entry into the found footage sub-genre. However, Jason Ford's debut feature swiftly discards such trappings, revealing itself as a modern British hybrid combining the recent 'hoodie horror' trend with a more classic genre trope; the inbred hillbilly. Unlike the protagonists in Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez's cult chiller, this film's fledgling filmmakers are not trekking into an ancient forest, but a present-day equivalent, a feared council estate.

Setting back society by demonizing the working classes all over again is writer/director Jason Ford and his film Community, which is definitely not to be confused with the feel good Us series now in its fourth season. Ford’s film is another attack on a country where the gulf between the haves and have not’s has never been higher with the middle classes all but eradicated.
The problem is if this had come out ten years ago then it would have felt timely and clever but now after the likes of Eden Lake and Them (Ills) it feels like it’s too little too late and in a way it feels cruel and borderline irresponsible and is a little too specific with regards to who it’s targeting.

Directed by Jason Ford and starring Elliott Jordan, Jemma Dallender Terry Bird, Ian Ralph and Paul McNeill, Community is yet another British horror that focuses on the darker side of the countries urban lower-classes.
The horror is coming to your neighbourhood. The Draymen Estate has become an urban legend. Amongst the sinister stories of strange locals and brutal violence, many people have gone missing there. Two student filmmakers visit the desolate estate in the hope their proposed documentary on the anti-social place will land them a lucrative career. But within minutes they are introduced to a skinned dog in a shallow grave. They quickly discover that behind the awkward smiles, the adults appear to be off their heads on drugs whilst the feral children roam wildly, further proof that this estate is a breeding ground for the darker side of society. It’s a society which is about to present...

Jason Ford's new UK horror 'Community' has reached your neighbourhood. The thriller is in post-production and from looking at the new trailers and teasers for the New Town Films production it seems a lot more than the usual anti-social behaviour is kicking off on the Drayman Estate. It's being described as 'The Wickerman for the Harry Brown generation' and is both helmed and written by filmmaker Ford. Jemma Dallender, Elliott Jordan, Paul McNeilly, Terry Bird and Oliver Stark all star and you can check out the new assets below....

The UK-based psychological horror film Community is nearly wrapped and ready to get your skin crawling. The trailers look slick with some interesting characters trapped in a morbid, deadly situation. This tale of the Drayman Estate urban legend is filled with drug addiction, murderous children and scenes of brutal violence. Sounds like a Gash family reunion.
Community definitely feels like a modern, urban version of Children of the Corn. The adults are doped out of their minds, and the kids are running rampant. No word yet if one of the characters is named Malachi or not, but if one is, be sure to watch Community with the lights on. The film is written and directed by Jason Ford.

28Dla's friends over at Quiet Earth have debuted a second trailer for Community courtesy of High Point Media. In the second clip there is more horror as a hybrid brand of marijuana changes parents into the lackadaisical and their children into killers. The latest movies from the United Kingdom that involve horror have tackled themes of youth run rampant. Eden Lake (2008), Harry Brown (2009) and the recent Attack the Block (2011) show the ills of urban living and the difficult choices therein.
Also, Community stars Elliott Jordan who set Cinemas in Bolton ablaze with another horror effort titled The Toybox. The Toybox was also shot in the United Kingdom and instead of drug dealing hoodies this film dealt with witches and ancient myths. Jordan continues to be one of the standouts in modern British horror with Darren Kent (The Incident) and Terry Bird also starring in Community. Enjoy the second trailer for the film inside.
