The film was originally written in 2009 by Ewen Glass and green-lit by funders North Yorkshire County Council. However, DeCantillon Films put the project on hiatus in 2010 when "The Only One Who Knows You're Afraid" was conceived. The project was not brought in to pre-production until May 2011 and was shot less than three months later.
The production's shoot lasted just three days with 29 scenes and 80 shots.
The film's final shot was filmed at 5:50am after the wrap party.
Not a single actor except for those hired for the film were considered for the project.
The shoot wrapped on the birthday of director Timothy Reynard.
