Exclusive: Trimax Media, the production company led by Alan Glazer (The Bank Job), has acquired film rights to No Bullet Got Me Yet, John Stansifer’s forthcoming book about U.S. Army Chaplain, Father Emil Kapaun.
Stansifer has scripted the film adaptation, titled Father Kapaun’s Valley, which Stephen Campanelli (Drinkwater) is attached to direct. The intention with the project is to help fill the void when it comes to U.S.-produced films about the Korean War, while spotlighting a little-known war hero currently on the path to sainthood. Set to produce are Glazer and Stansifer, whose book is slated for publication on March 12, 2024.
The most decorated chaplain in U.S. military history, Kapaun regularly risked his life during the Korean War to help soldiers survive, also taking great pains to support them in their faith, no matter their religion. Among the most notable incidents from his military history was...

Even before it was out of post production, Habit (not to be confused with the 2017 cannibal film of the same name), was stirring up controversy. According to Variety, it was the subject of a petition due to its casting. Specifically the casting of Paris, daughter of Michael, Jackson as a lesbian Jesus. Whether it was the product of legitimate outrage or a bit of marketing it certainly got Habit noticed. And since I’m reviewing it, it obviously didn’t stop its release. Although maybe it would have been better if it did rather than being responsible for it getting a distributor.

Given all the political chatter about border control in this year’s *historic* Us presidential election, The Hollow Point stays savagely on-topic. Granted, most American citizens aren’t involved with ammo-running across country lines, but cartels are no joke – and neither is Gonzalo López-Gallego’s country-fried thriller. Social struggles tie weapons smuggling to impoverished Southern entrepreneurs, inviting boogeymen of Mexican descent to punish those who choose greed over safety. It’s a western standoff brought upon by evil, wicked men, all in the name of brutal consequence. Thugs living by a corrupt code, who we join just as bullet-slinging chickens come home to roost.
Patrick Wilson stars as the local sheriff of some forgotten U.S./Mexico border town, whose citizens are about to pay for a cartel deal gone wrong. Ken Mercey (David H. Stevens) was supposed to supply his contact with a surplus of ammunition, but his brother...

The Hollow Point trailer has Ian McShane and Patrick Wilson as small town sheriffs under siege from a killer cartel conspiracy.
The trailer for the action thriller The Hollow Point seems to represent a slow, but steady topical trend in entertainment as the U.S.-Mexico border becomes more of an omnipresent subject, especially in the wake of election year politics. However, unlike another upcoming border-centric entry in Desierto, the central conflict of this film – pitting a pair of overwhelmed small town sheriffs against cartel ammo smugglers – seems to be fought on sides more conventionally delineated.
From the outset, the trailer for The Hollow Point showcases a land-scorched scenario in a desert town on the border who find themselves the centre of a clandestine deal with a Mexican drug cartel involving ammunition – namely loads of hollow-point bullets (designed to shred on impact,) to be smuggled into Mexico to arm some not-so-nice folks.

This election season is certainly making movies set along the U.S./Mexico border resonate a little more loudly. Later this month, Gael Garcia Bernal will fight for his life in “Desierto,” and toward the end of the year, there will be more thrills along the line where Donald Trump wants to build a wall in “The Hollow Point.”

Easily the most anticipated new show of the season is Gotham, and if you weren’t able to attend the premiere party, here’s the next best thing.
It was clearly quite the party, and even if you aren’t among the hopefuls looking for this to become your next favorite show, it’s a series that absolutely has to be watched… for a while at least. Just based on the cast and crew, and any connection to Batman, you have to check out what they do with this thing. And, I have to say, Donal Logue. The End.
And again, even if you aren’t already sold, there’s something interesting about the idea of expanding on the early years, beyond just the flashback that sets Bruce Wayne in motion.
Well, you may as well check out what went on, and get all the more excited for next week’s premiere of the show.

I have to admit, I get a kick out of seeing the word “Hammer” on the posters and DVD cases of modern horror releases. A studio associated with classic British horror of the past, Hammer are a mark of quality when it comes to atmospheric, gothic and haunting films, so I was interested in what we would be greeted with when The Quiet Ones was announced.
John Pogue, writer of films such as U.S Marshals and Ghost Ship, and director of Quarantine 2: The Terminal, stands behind the big camera once again for a creepy and tense horror film that follows other recent Hammer output like The Woman in Black and Wake Wood.

One of the most interesting new shows landing on television this fall is Fox’s Gotham, which charts the rise of Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) from new cop on the block to the troubled city’s police commissioner long before the Dark Knight ever arrived on the scene. Though a Batman-related show without the pointy-eared crimefighter may sound like a tough sell on paper, trailers for the series have done a great job of selling it as a gritty police drama filled with easter eggs for comic-book aficionados.
The brief new teaser for Gotham focuses on Gordon’s reputation as the city’s white knight, “the last good man in Gotham,” while also teasing gangster Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) and familiar faces Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova) and Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor). The show is set to be filled with similarly iconic characters from the Batman comic-book mythology, including...

Fox’s upcoming series Gotham, which charts the struggles of Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) to clean up the streets of Gotham City long before Batman ever arrived on the scene, fared very well at Comic-Con this year. The pilot episode was screened in Hall H on Saturday night to major applause from attendees – in particular, Sean Pertwee’s edgier Alfred Pennyworth was a hit, and audiences also loved Gordon’s action heroics.
Now, a new trailer for the series has arrived, including teases for Oswald Cobblepot’s (Robin Lord Taylor) transformation into the villainous Penguin and a better look at the fateful night in Crime Alley when young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) lost his parents to an armed mugger. There’s a lot of other exciting stuff on display in this trailer as well, including some cool lines from Gordon, glimpses of Selina Kyle/Catwoman (Camren Bicondova) and more of...

Fox is ramping up publicity for its buzzy new series Gotham ahead of its September debut, and now, hot on the heels of an appealing teaser for the show, we’ve been treated to a new crop of images by Entertainment Weekly, which featured Gotham in a recent issue. There are no startling revelations in the shots, though I don’t recall seeing much of Wayne Manor, home to a young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) and butler Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee), before this point.
Other pics include shots of protagonist James Gordon (Ben McKenzie), the new addition to the Gotham City Police Department destined to become the troubled city’s police commissioner; ruthless gangster Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith); Mooney’s underling Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor), who may be developing an affinity for penguins in this series’ run; and Alfred, a much younger iteration of the character than DC Comics...

Moviefone's Top DVD of the Week
"Under the Skin"
What's It About? That's a very good question. Scarlett Johansson plays a mysterious woman who drives around the Scottish countryside looking for male hitchhikers. To reveal more would be a disservice to the movie... and difficult, since this atmospheric science-fiction film is open to interpretation.
Why We're In: Director Jonathan Glazer's very, very loose adaptation of the Michel Faber novel is disturbing and sexy. Plus, they used hidden cameras to film Johansson luring clueless hitchhikers into her big white van.
Moviefone's Top Blu-ray of the Week
"Scanners" (Criterion)
What's It About? "Scanners" are humans with special telepathic gifts, and the giant corporation ConSec wants to use them for their own nefarious purposes. It becomes a gruesome war of the scanners when one gang decides to go rogue.
Why We're In: David Cronenberg's most famous head-popping horror movie finally gets the Criterion treatment.

Chicago – One of the top musical theater voices working in Chicago is actress/singer Jillian Kate Weingart. After triumphs in several local productions, she is currently featured in the iconic role of Sally Bowles in a staging of “Cabaret,” presented by BrightSide Theatre of Naperville, Ill., through June 29th, 2014.
Jillian Kate Weingart is moving up the musical theater ladder here in Chicago, having had memorable appearances in the locally produced musicals ”A New Brain” and ”Adult Entertainment.” Her characteristic stage energy is electric and sensational, with a multi-range vocal style that can handle the best of Broadway and standard song material.

I’m not going to lie, I was a bit worried before reading the first reactions to Fox’s new Batman prequel series, Gotham. I’m incredibly excited for the show, and seriously hope that it lives up to its potential. However, one could easily see where the series could go horribly, horribly wrong, and many were left skeptical by its first trailer.
Sure, it will be great to see a Batman show on television, but the series runs the risk of falling into typical prequel tropes, and spending too much time winking at the audience instead of telling good stories that fully utilize the Gotham-before-Batman concept.
Well, if these early reactions are any indication, we have nothing to worry about, because Gotham appears to have delivered on its promises and established a great foundation for what we hope is a stellar season. The pilot episode was screened for...

In Open Grave, Sharlto Copley’s character experiences one of the worst rude awakenings possible: waking up in a pit on a bed of corpses. And that’s only the beginning of a very bad day for the poor guy, as he also faces memory loss and a group of gun-toting strangers. If you didn’t catch it in theaters, you’ll soon have the chance to see Copley and company fight for their lives in Open Grave’s upcoming Blu-ray and DVD release.

I’ve heard both good and bad things about Open Grave, but I am a fan of Sharlto Copley, so I plan to watch it anyway. I don’t know anything about it at all, I’ve never even watched a trailer, but the press release describes it as a “gritty zombie thriller”, so it could go either way. I skip most of the zombie movies these days, unless someone I trust tells me it’s worth a watch. From the sounds of this one, it could be interesting, and Sharlto has an interesting enough on-screen persona to make most movies he is in at least watchable. The disc drops on July 15th from Cinedigm. You can pre-order your copy here.

Coming out of Cannes is the first whiff of this contemporary, dusty American thriller from Spanish director Gonzalo López-Gallego (Apollo 18, Open Grave). The film is set on the Us/Mexico boarder, and has Jim Belushi, Lynn Collins (John Carter) and John Leguizamo (playing an assassin) in supporting roles. ...

It was only a week ago that Fox announced it had picked up Gotham to series, which means we’ll be getting 16 episodes that will air on Monday nights at 8pm staring in the fall. Since then, we’ve seen a few promo images, plot details, and a great trailer that give us a clear picture of what to expect from the Batman-less prequel.
Now, the marketing push continues, as over a dozen new images have been released. We’re treated to a shot of detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) talking to a young Bruce Wayne, presumably at his parents’ crime scene, and we also see a glimpse of what looks like an intense showdown between Gordon and the future Penguin, Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor). We also get a look at Penguin’s boss, Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith), and Gordon’s partner, Harvey Bullock, (Donal Logue) at a slaughterhouse.

The first trailer for The Flash will debut after this week’s season finale of Arrow on Wednesday, but a new promo for that episode has offered up a very brief look at the iconic DC superhero speeding into action.
For a TV budget, the effects appear to be very impressive, and should help put aside any doubts over whether or not The CW will be equipped to do the Scarlet Speedster justice on the small screen. Be sure to wait right until the end, especially as it appears as if Green Arrow will also be in The Flash pilot!
Of course, The Flash will be joined this Autumn not only by a third season of Arrow, but also Constantine and Gotham. The latter series has today released a lengthy new synopsis for the Batman prequel along with a great batch of character promo images and stills from the highly anticipated pilot episode.

Do awards shows for advertising have “for your consideration” ads for their ads?
While your brain ponders that Russian nesting doll of a question, let’s take a look at the contenders for this year’s Golden Trailer Awards, the top honor for those clips that make you say, “Man, I’ve got to see that.”
The 15th annual competition doesn’t honor the best movie, just the most alluring promo. And it has a somewhat dubious special award known as the “Golden Fleece,” which honors the best trailer for the worst film.

In case you hadn't guessed from the trailers being released for this new series, Fox has announced that they are officially giving a full 22 episode season order to Gotham. There's a huge audience out there for a show like this, and from what I have seen of it so far, it looks like it's going to deliver the goods. If you haven't seen the trailer for the show yet, click here.
The pilot episode was shot recently, and the network obviously really liked what they saw. The series stars Ben McKenzie as a young James Gordon, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, Jada Pinkett Smith as Fish Mooney, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Robin Lord Taylor as Penguin, Cory Michael Smith as Riddler, and Carmen Bicondova as Catwoman. According to the report, the Joker will even have a role in the series. You can check out all of the character photos by clicking here.

It was announced this morning that Fox had picked up the new Batman-inspired television series "Gotham" for at least a 13-episode run and now the first teaser trailer for the series has premiered ahead of its TV debut during "24: Live Another Day tonight. Entertainment Weekly has the trailer premiere writing: You'll get your first close look the Gotham skyline (modern, familiar, yet not too close to any one American city), glimpses of the murder of Bruce Wayne's parents, a couple shots of Det. Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie), and moments showing a young Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor, with umbrella!), Catwoman (Camren Bicondova, on gargoyle perch), The Riddler (Cory Michael Smith, looking creepily sly as a Gotham P.D. forensic tech) and Poison Ivy (taking care of a plant, naturally). While this is inspired by the DC Comics' Batman series it's my understanding this won't actually feature Batman as Gordon...
