Interesting but every prepper forgets one major problem.
ptgoldfrappp27 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I have been binge watching this TV series every since the COVID 19 pandemic and self isolation has now become the norm in many countries. With every show there are common factors, adequate amounts of food, water, firearms and renewable sources of energy. But the one show in which highlights the ONE THING not one prepper does not take into account was episode of the Psychiatrist who was sacred of a Pandemic. His wife was a survivor of the "Killing Fields" of Cambodia. She survived escaping the camp she was imprisoned by The Khmer Rouge by hiding in a cave. So when they went to their safe place, a simple cave, the husband had no idea that his wife suffered from a phobia of caves and what horrible memories haunted her , hence her dislike of the safety of the cave. Mental illness or the likely development of it is never mentioned in any episodes. Why do you think Astronauts both males and females train up to 2 years for living in close confinement and proximity to fellow astronauts. Whether your live in a house, missile bunker or travelling truck for extended period with loved ones , you are going to develop a mental illness if not properly trained. Psychologist suggest just under 6 months without contact with the outside world or new people, people with no mental issues will more than like go develop mental illnesses. This factor is never addressed in any episodeS? Kind of Ironic as I write this review at the height of the COVID 19 pandemic, April, 2020?

The average joe
nordicslayer21 August 2018
So overall it's a pretty entertaining and educational show. However I would say that the majority of the shows that I have watched seem to deal with people who have a good amount of money or are very well off and can afford these expensive fortresses and such. One example a guy bought his daughter a 40k rifle and paid for lessons that cost 60k. Rediculous. Show people who are prepping with low to average budgets. Do able realistic preppers. And realistic preppers. Example: honestly I prep to survive the initial chaos then to raid those who have what I need. That's honesty. In an E.L.E ( extinction level event) all bets are off. My family matters your just in my way.

In 2018 I just at these idiots
andre_straker27 May 2018
It is 2018 now and I just laugh at some of these idiots.

Why do they live in such fear?

For these people life in the US of A is great. I wonder what they would be doing is they were poor. They would probably have better things to worry about.

They have serious first world problems.

Looking forward to the Apocalypse.

Before we judge whether or not the people on this show are crazy, let's just remember that this show is like any other documentary, it explores a culture or a belief system completely foreign to our own.

Doomsday Preppers gives us a telescope into the lives of people who think the world's end is right round the corner, whether it be from an oil shortage, a giant earthquake, or the world spinning upside-down. While the apocalypse theories vary in their plausibility, what is certain is that these people BELIEVE it will happen very soon. And this makes for a very interesting show.

Families literally dedicate their lives to building defenses and stocking up on food supplies for when civilisation comes to an end. Whether its a legitimate fear or just a desire for a new life, you can't get past the slightly romantic notion of being the only people equipped to fighting off hordes of starving civilians with your homemade fortress. However the entire notion that you live your life to prepare for the offchance that the world ends is completely ridiculous.

These people give up the majority of their time and money to dealing with an apocalypse that almost definitely won't happen. But who are we to judge, whatever helps them sleep at night.

And examining these people makes for a very interesting show.

OMG we love this show...watching all these idiots wasting the best years of their lives and so much of their money "prepping" for something that's never going to happen.....priceless.

A laugh a minute show for all the family!

Most watch if you are serious about prepping!
parentjf8 September 2017
This show is full of very inspirational people that will motivate you to bring your prepping to the next level.

The production is very dishonest though. They will mislead you so you keep on watching the episode. I even suspect that they distort the story of some of these preppers to make it more spectacular (by introducing drills, explosions, arguments, etc).

The Practical Preppers assessments are kind of weak. Some preppers don't hesitate to point that out during the show!

TLDR; You can learn a lot of stuffs about prepping watching this show but the production is kind of weak.

A sad show about sad people
dagobert-323 March 2013
This show has many issues but here are the main ones.

1- It exploits ignorant and misinformed people. This is more voyeurism of a very small fringe of the population and depresses me if I watch it. At some point this show is equal or possibly worse than Hoarders. But in the case of Hoarders these people suffer from mental illness not ignorance.

2- Listening to these people is an exercise in restraint. They are largely uninformed and base their life-decisions on anecdotal information they glean from the internet and other like-minded people as equally ignorant. They lack the imagination to redirect their energy and efforts to endeavors that could benefit society. Their apocalyptic view of the world is unsupported by real-world events, think Katrina, Sandy, and Fukushima, and provides them with a platform that simply reinforces a mistaken belief that all Americans adhere to or support this behavior.

In the end, even if they are right, most people would prefer to die than live in the world these people are preparing for. This is probably this biggest omission they make when preparing for a doomsday scenario: Would you really want to live in such a world?

My kind of show!
raelfawal30 September 2014
Doomsday Preppers is the perfect show for me. I'm a retired U.S. Army veteran and ever since being a Boyscout as a child I've believed in always being prepared. I still go camping & hiking in the mountains throughout the year and I am always over-prepared. I am not a Doomsday Prepper; however, I can admire the dedication that some of the families have for being prepared. Are most of their motivations behind their actions unlikely or even ridiculous? Absolutely. As many negative points that could be made about how these people live their lives, there are as many positives. The people are interesting, the show is interesting, and I'm inspired by many of the ideas. Those damn ZOMBIES will be coming any day now. Hahaha!

A dude "plays" attacking his family home to show them weak points if there is a nuclear fallout and people go nuts.

The first series was 2012, it's now 2020 is he still torturing his family with this craziness?

Warning: Spoilers
This is not a show I can take seriously. I do, however, find it extremely entertaining. Similar to the way I appreciate "My Strange Addiction" or "Man Vs. Wild." Although "Doomsday Preppers" takes itself less seriously than either of those. The guy that is running for government office because he thinks everyone should be required to prep? Hilarious. The weirder the prep, the better! Every prepper preps for something different, yet all are dead sure that this cataclysmic event WILL come in to play in the near future and WILL end society as we know it. I've probably watched 20 episodes. Nearly every prepper has their own fear. I think some anxiety meds could go a long way to kill their fears and diminish their need to prep. But hey. We all have our own ways of coping. Definitely worth trying if you like that type of reality show.

Fun show that stands the test of time
howieroarkd17 November 2020
The reviewers trashing the people in this show are the people fist-fighting you right now during the covid scare while filling their cart with their 50th roll of toilet paper. Some of the folks portrayed may have carried things a bit far, but none of them were wrong in exercising some preparation. They are the ones getting the last laugh now. Give this a watch in case the world doesn't complete it's descent into mad max dystopia, then you'll be working on your own prep!

Absolutely brilliant
paullundblad25 May 2019
The reality is that modern society is incredibly fragile. Most people are drastically underprepared for even being without electricity for a few days, let alone any kind of more serious societal crisis. This show provides a great exploration and evaluation of different ways of approaching crisis preparedness...but at the same time it definitely highlights the fine line between sensible preparedness and madness. The result is thought provoking and highly entertaining at the same time. Don't pay attention to the bad reviews...this show is brilliant.

I was surprised about this show, found it by fault on the net, thought could be good for stir, watch some fruit-loops. Sure there are some odd characters in this show, but that is no reflection on the story line, and was an eye opener for me in some ways, being a Christian I am well aware where humanity is heading too! But even if you are a none believer it would not take a brain surgeon to work out that the world we live in is going down the shitter! My Grandmother started prepping a few years before the start of WW2, I can't prove if it helped or saved lives, but I am sure it would not have hurt them, get my drift? It is up to you how much or how little you do about prepping, but hey you drive a car with a spare tire, thats prepping! I started prepping a few years ago after being financial destroyed due to the GFC, started getting that small tent, back pack, extra food on the shelf ..... and it has now grown to a 4x4, off road solar trailer, weapons. food and so on.

This show is done well, no fake reality actors, just normal (sort of) people that are worried about world events, and wanting to do something about it in their own way, for their families.

Anyway watch a few episodes, you might learn something.

Great show.

Warning: Spoilers
Doomsday Preppers is so underrated. It is so good, and to see what these people do to prep for doomsday, from building forts that protect against electromagnetic pulses, to having a whole house filled with supplies everywhere, including under a bed, to protecting against a tsunami.

One of the many parts I like about this show is the newly added scale that measures how protected you are from the disaster. And one of my favorite episodes was when a man built a whole fort that cost about a million dollars. He gathered his 10 sons and daughters and tested them to see if they had the skills to own the fort. Two of them will be crowned to own the fort after he died.

To me this show is one of those new shows that are just really good and different.

I give this TV series a 7.9 out of ten stars.

You should definitely watch every show of this TV series. and trust me you will like it. especially if you really like TV series that are about adventures, and outrageous things
