The target audience is probably under 10 years of Age.
hudakp-566806 May 2023
The animation is nice. The plot does not make much sense. Some characters known from other Star Wars shows will pop up. Overall it's something that may be appreciated by kids. It's most likely not for adults. There's not much regular people can appreciate. Is it just pure money grab ? It can be, but it's difficult to judge as of now. I still need to type around 250 characters, so I'll add, that if you're going to watch these series, please don't have high expectations. It's heavily simple minded and the emphasis of the show is purely on animation and those nice big colorful eyes of characters, that are supposed to be liked by children.

Great for the youngest and all Star Wars Mamas and Papas
DLochner25 March 2024
Just because of Master Yoda, who appears in his younger years, one should watch this series.

The title and storytelling are naturally tailored so that the youngest can easily follow the action, animated in great, vibrant colors. Particularly appealing is that each plot contains a meaningful and valuable message in Jedi style at the end. The action is not lacking either, all well-balanced and as non-violent as possible, of course.

The animated series fits into the official Star Wars canon and takes place during the High Republic era. So it's also suitable for Star Wars moms and dads. Absolutely worth watching.

Worse than childish
JakeBrinkman5 August 2023
Note: I have seen the first 7 episodes (14 since they're 2-part episodes), and I have no intention of watching further.

Canon - For those only looking for this series addition to canon: At the time of the High Repiblic, there were enough youngling Jedi that the Jedi established Adacemies on multiple planets. That's it. And yes, that info is supplied in other media, so this show really adds nothing at all.

---

This series isn't just childish; it's idiotic. The entire collection of canon media emphasizes frequently how difficult it is to pilot a ship and that it's practically impossible for non-Jedi children to do so, yet the adults are constantly and knowingly sending groups of children into danger with a non-Jedi child for a pilot who has, by her own admission, never flown anything bigger than a landspeeder prior to the show's first episode.

The series' action and target audience is comparable to Spidey and His Amazing Friends, but at least Spidey still shows the adults doing adult jobs such as driving vehicles.

The villain is also idiotic. Spidey's villains pose actual threats (physical pain, city-wide damage, civilians in potentially deadly scenarios), and that series is able to depict those "mature" threats in a very child-friendly light. On the other hand, Young Jedi's big baddie reveal is... a kid stealing fruit from a street vendor. Something that poses no real threat to anyone and could be solved by a simple "Hey! Stop that!"

People defend this show by saying "It's for kids," but having kids as a target audience doesn't mean it has to defy logic, break canon, and ignore common sense. The target audience is children, not imbeciles.

For a very, very young audience...
paul_haakonsen17 May 2023
Of course I opted to sit down and check out the 2023 animated show "Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures", despite the fact of not having any expectations to it at all. I figured that this was something aimed at an audience way too young, but with it being "Star Wars", of course I had to check it out.

And let's just for the record state that "Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures" is for a very young audience indeed. And thus I have to say that I found it to be well beyond my interest, even with it being a "Star Wars" product. This 2023 animated show was even way more aimed at children than the 1985 "Ewoks" animated show was.

It should be noted that for a child audience, then "Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures" is a good way to introduce the children to the "Star Wars" franchise and universe. And I am very sure that the children will find this 2023 animated show to be entertaining and exciting.

The animation and CGI in "Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures" was fair enough. Again, aimed at a very young audience, and thus I found it to be a bit too cartoony.

This is not an animated series that I will be frequenting. Sitting through the first episode was more than enough for me. And even my 13 year old son didn't find much enjoyment in "Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures".

My rating of "Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures" lands on a four out of ten stars.

It's funny seeing so many adults rage voting on something clearly geared towards children
mjd895919 May 2023
My son loves this show, and for good reasons. The colors, voice acting, animation and sound are all great for a younger audience and the stories and messages presented in each episode will really resonate with him and other kids whenever gets a little older. As adults, we should get rating this show based on how children will react to the show and enjoy it. Of course any good show has to be entertaining to their parents as well, and I can confidently say that there's a plethora of very annoying and mindless shows for children out there and this show isn't one of them. I obviously won't watch it by myself, but I'll have no problem turning it on for my kid.

Inclusive Star Wars Fun.
gwqnkpvr7 May 2023
I have an almost 4 year old son, this is the perfect sort of content to enable us to enjoy the Star Wars universe together. The themes are light-hearted and appropriate for this age range. If you've watched "Spidey and his Amazing Friends", this show will feel *very* familiar. It's low stakes, easy watching fun for kids.

As my son gets older, I can introduce him to the more mature SW content, but for now, this is ideal, with most of the themes focussing on things children around that age stand to benefit from - teamwork, sharing and inclusivity.

Some negatives from me - I would have liked to have seen more cameos from iconic SW universe characters aside from Yoda. The main villain also seems a little lame in the context of SW - for comparison, Spidey gets to battle against iconic villains such as Doc Ock, Sandman, Green Goblin and Rhino, our Jedi friends battle against a pirate kid.

As a final note, because apparently needs to be explicitly mentioned - not all SW content has to be consumable by adults, or have some sort of adult theme running through it. It's perfectly acceptable to have multi-generational content to attract varying age ranges to the franchise. If you're an adult looking for fresh SW content, carry on looking, you're not the target audience.

Meant for kids
Betterthanacritic15 May 2023
This was a fun show to watch with my son, it is light and fun for kids. This is a great way to introduce kids into the SWU without all the violence or adult themes. Yet it teaches kids all the things you need to know about jedi, ships and the various worlds culture, food and people that will peak their interest.

The animation is good, very colorful and well geared towards kids. The attention to detail like fur, vegetation and dirt/ rust on ships is well done. The voice actors do a good job portraying their characters in which you can buy into one.

Recommend for kids and parents wanting to share their love of Star Wars.

Gorgeous Animation: introduces the High Republic era in television format
ksdouglas-2361819 May 2023
Like most of the top reviewers have said, the show is squarely aimed at children. We're talking under 10. So if you have a child who's a preteen then most likely would not e joy watching this. I am by no means anywhere near a preteen or under the age of 10. I enjoyed this show very much as a huge Star Wars fan. For me I was actually anticipating this show when it was first announced.

Young Jedi Adventures takes place in the Star Wars era known as the High Republic. This was an era recently introduced in Disney's canon and essentially takes place after the Old Republic and about 250 years or so before the Battle of Yavin (so basically before the first Death Star was destroyed).

The High Republic era was first introduced in graphic novel/ and novel format with the book LIGHT OF THE JEDI. Essentially, this era is where the Jedi were at their peak, with a heavy emphasis of spreading their influence throughout the galaxy.

So, no Skywalkers or any familiar characters will appear here outside of long lived characters like Yoda, who does make several cameo appearances.

Outside of the premise of the show being aimed toward children, the animation is very eye catching and the voice acting isn't bad at all. The show is formatted as an "adventure of the week" sort of deal with some inklings of an overall story arc taking shape. For the most part, the first season is essentially just showing the characters engaging in their...everyday Jedi adventures much to what the titles says!

So yeah, kick back, don't set your expectations high and enjoy the show!

It's for kids. Clearly.
Nerdfury25 September 2023
I find it bizarre - unsurprising, but utterly bizarre - that people are getting mad that this kid's show, made for a very young audience in mind, is not suiting their own personal adult tastes.

It's a show for children. In the same way that Sesame Street is for children. This isn't Rebels, or Clone Wars. This isn't for a range of audiences. This is for young children, maybe ages 6 and below or so. It's 'Baby's First Star Wars.' If you're old enough to register an account and leave a salty review about a kid's show, it's not designed for you.

As for the show itself, other than being for children, it's a very good kid's show. The animation, music, sound fx, acting, and action is very good. It's low stakes, full of morals on basic life lessons like not being mean and helping people, and there's no violence involved. It's a great start for your Younglings to get their does dipped into the franchise.

Oh, and did I mention for all the big babies leaving low-rated reviews? IT'S A CHILDREN'S SHOW.

Colourful, engaging and creative
TBJCSKCNRRQTreviews17 August 2023
A small group of children go on adventures.

Some people seem to take issue with the fact that this was clearly made purely for kids. My question for them would be: how many hours of Star Wars that aimed at least partially at teenagers do you need? All the other animated ones fit that description. This one is rated TV-Y, so age 6 or 7, thereabouts. This is a franchise that makes sense to make content directly aimed for such, since it is telling a story that can be appreciated by them, and the world can appeal to them with its seemingly endless possibilities. Don't get me wrong, I'm not asking for Cronenberg adaptations for that group. I don't think it makes a lot of sense to show someone like that any of the 11 movies without fast forwarding or having them look away from certain parts. So here's something that you can let them watch without doing that.

It is true that this has them go off on adventures without adult supervision, which is of course not something you would want the audience to imitate. I don't know if it makes it better that a number of times they do specifically get permission to do this. Do note that the lightsabers they run around with are not the same kind that we're used to seeing adults wield: they clearly can't actually cut through anything, they're essentially wiffle bats that glow and deflect Blaster fire.

There's basically four leads, and two of them are female. The three younglings Kai Brightstar(who's black, overconfident), Lys(girl, who loves animals to the point where sometimes she struggles to focus on anything else) and Nubs(who can't get enough of plants, and is basically the Wookie or Ewok: doesn't speak galactic basic, cute and cuddly, your kid's gonna want one) and the pilot Nash durango(who has two mothers, Mama and Mommy, an interracial couple who are clearly great parents, leading her to being very well adjusted).

They are on the planet Tenoo, studying at the temple, near the small town of Kublop Springs. It uses these various settings, building a recurring cast, and sometimes they do also leave for other places, meeting people there. Sometimes they're flying through space dealing with asteroids and other ships. While no one is ever in mortal jeopardy, it does fit in a substantial amount of action scenes, where they face the talents and gadgets of various bounty hunters and pirates, including Taborr, who basically serves as their nemesis, making multiple appearances.

Each episode runs 22 minutes and has two separate stories, the first one ending and the second one starting around the midpoint. I've seen some argue that they are too long - I think the idea is that you watch one half, and then if you feel like watching more you can keep going. Keep in mind that this is on Disney Plus, a streaming service, rather than traditional television; so if you feel like not watching any further you can just pause it, turn off, and when you come back later, it will remember where you got to. While there is some soft continuity such as characters met in one episode will not get a reintroduction in a later one they appear in, it really is very much a completely new plot each time.

There are a number of times where the conflict is a plant that has not had its needs met either withering, which is sad and needs to be counteracted, or actually being a threat to someone's safety, something that has to be stopped. Many animals that have been misunderstood and just need to be treated nicely. Lots of the antagonists just don't really understand that what they're doing is wrong and why, and are given a chance to change for the better. It doesn't tend to encourage you to laugh at the pain of others, no matter how bad they have behaved they are given a chance. It's very optimistic.

I would definitely say that it is careful to try avoiding stuff that's going to make your offspring dumber. It hopes to teach universal values: patience, compassion, teamwork, etc. There's no doubt that a number of the things it preaches would be very nice to see the parent company actually also practice. As usual for recently, they're basically trying to make sure that as many consumers as possible still think of them as a force for good, even though we know a lot of the time that isn't true.

The protagonists are frequently happy(about experiences, food, each other, mission success, etc.), laughing, dancing, singing, cheering, smiling and celebrating. Not non-stop, mind you. The colors are bright in a way that they've largely avoided in SW until this - there was always a gritty lived in feel, which I appreciate, though I'm glad they decided against that here. And this doesn't look shiny and fake like the prequels. Heads and eyes are huge. The quality of visuals is very high, this is not some cash in. There's incredible detail to everything, and a very realistic physics simulation. This was clearly made by people who have a taste for vintage classics, with very clear references made to Fantasia 1940 and at least one decades old Donald Duck cartoon.

No matter the situation, this goes out of its way to not put anything on screen that might scare someone young. Basically, the only thing this ever shows that I thought might cross that line, is a twisted ankle, and I can imagine they might have felt that it would be good to prepare them for seeing something like that. Comparatively, the two Ewok TV movies(remember those?) both definitely have some stuff that could terrify them. And I'm not one of the people who say that there's nothing good about those two.

I recommend this to parents who want to share the IP with the little ones as soon as at all possible. 8/10.

Good Kids Show
xethannelsen18 June 2023
I decided to watch this as an adult with no children. I can appreciate kids shows like theses as I tend to watch them through the lens of someone who still enjoys nostalgic kids shows from when I was young. I can also appreciate good lessons for kids told in a meaningful way to a series. Watching this knowing the target audience and comparing it to shows similar to when I was a little one is how I tried to judge it.

Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures is very good. I give it 9/10. They did a good job of making it feel like Star Wars but with life lessons for kids. I found the action perfect for the target audience. This definitely a good show to introduce the Star Wars universe to a little youngling of your own. It has good morales to teach, still has Star Wars action like lightsaber training and fights but for kids, and is entertaining.

My only reason for it being a 9/10 and not a 10/10. Is it isn't perfect. As an adult there are some things that made me cringe a little but it's more just jokes that I've heard tons of times that kids probably would enjoy. I'm only holding it one point off because of that. However I fully admit I'm fairly certain kids would enjoy the jokes. The show just uses some tropes and jokes we've all seen used in older kids shows.

"Childish" is the point - not an insult
ryanjtongue29 November 2023
Just wanted to provide a counter to some of the outrageously dim reviews on here.

Firstly, this show is simple fun that manages to capture some of the magic, adventure and sense of infinite possibility that Star Wars is always about.

That being out of the way - some of the comments written by adults on here are painful to read. The sort who want to watch everything Star Wars but are critical of it all by default. Don't get me wrong - I myself don't rate 3 or 4 of Disney's newer Star Wars shows and films, but that doesn't blind me to the fact this specific show is clearly not designed for me, and that in itself doesn't justify a low rating.

Coming here to criticise a show for 5 year olds for being "illogical"...? The only excuse for an adult to write such tripe is severe learning disabilities. Sparing that, perhaps reconsider your entire personality.

Beautiful, Inclusive, Accessible Star Wars
wehoey13 January 2024
This show is great! My toddler loves it and I love that he can access the otherwise complex world of Star Wars. The level of inclusivity is wonderful and reflects the diverse world around us in a way some shows can't.

The characters are really nicely balanced and as an adult it's nice seeing so many little nods to the wider world of the High Republic era!

The design of the show is lovely and high quality for a show aimed at those so young!

It's a shame there seems to be a whole collection of the community that can't accept that it's not aimed solely at adults and doesn't perfectly fit the canon that they hold so overly dear.

This show is awesome for its target audience - kids! A wonderful way to dip their toes into the Star Wars universe and hopefully peak their interest further!

not just good, GREAT!!!
mrlsrtz25 July 2023
This new show is a perfect introduction to the Star Wars universe for little ones!!! Each episode features an easy-to-understand lesson about kindness, working together, and all sorts of other important themes for kids of all ages to learn. And it's filled with fast-paced action and heroics that every young star wars fan loved from the originals. Plus, the animation is GORGEOUS and so easy to look at. Kids and parents can both watch this show together - and i mean come on, who DOESN'T love a furry little blue Jedi like Nubs?! All the main characters have a ton of heart and are always eager to help others, which is something that so desperately needs to be shown in today's world.

Really great show for 3-7yr olds.
ludichris-1294017 February 2024
Firstly, lets be clear that this is a show made for young children. Its main competition is Paw Patrol, not the MCU. Its a very good show. It doesn't use painful repeated "gearing up" cut scenes 3 times an episode (or at all). Its storylines are varied, some full of action, some full of stillness, quite often non adversarial, and always comes to a reasonable conclusion. Also the music is great, it uses just enough of the john williams stuff but really has its own anthems to be proud of. My kids love it, they play with the toys the same way i played with my star wars toys in the 80s. No its not for everyone, but cmon, star wars content is full of super scary stuff for young kids, its about time the littlest ones can enjoy the star wars universe like the rest of us. Make more please.

My kids love it :)
mrs-amanda-hudson15 September 2023
Both my kids are under 9 and they love the show! It's very much in the vein of Spidey and His Amazing Friends, both in animation style and in storytelling. Setting wise, it takes place 200 years before the saga, which makes sense. War isn't a great background for a show for littles. My kids are not bothered that the characters are all new to them, my youngest adores the Ewok and the droids. The older loves all of the different races and species included, they've always enjoyed that. Forget the human looking characters lol they're here for the different and off beat. I love that we have a lower stakes show that includes my youngest in the fun of Star Wars and has basic lessons. I monitor their shows pretty close. As a parent, I'm very happy with it.

Did people really not know this is for kids???
clsjessicawilde13 March 2024
Its Star Wars for KIDS! As a HUGE star Wars fan for over 40 years Im always looking for ways to get my younger kids into it. Clone Wars and Rebels are absolutely fantastic but are still essentially adult continuations of the films. Some of the adult themes and stories can be hard for them to follow. Thankfully THIS show came around for my youngest kiddos! It's THROUGHLY enjoyable for adults and thank goodness it's not complete cringe, like so many other "for little kids" shows out there. This show is just great all around. Its cute enough for the kids to enjoy it and follow but not so dumbed down to be annoying and unwatchable. And the best part of all is it FEELS Star Wars! Absolutely recommend even if you dont have kids!

Some of the best storytelling in Star Wars right now
beautybeast-115393 April 2024
This is a fun series set centuries before The Skywalker Saga. The characters are engaging and well realized. Being a series aimed at young children you get your "lesson of the day" stories which can feel a bit forced to an adult. My 4.5 year old and my 2 year old are in love with this show. We've watched it through thrice so far and are about to go through it again. The Life Day episode especially captured my oldest's attention, I watch my children's faces as they watch something and they were emotional throughout the whole episode! There's also a couple subtle over arching threads that neatly come together by the Season 1 finale. There are also ties to the larger High Republic stories in the novels.
