How It Should Have Ended

20 years of YouTube: In 2009, a ‘New Moon’ ushered in the next phase of movie marketing
Image
In February 2025, YouTube turned 20. The video site has gone through a lot over the past two decades, including an acquisition, an earnings glow-up, and multiple generations of star creators. In our 20 Years of YouTube series, we’ll examine the uploads, trends, and influencers that have defined the world’s favorite video site — one year at a time. Click here for a full archive of the series.

In 2008, the internet chose between Barack Obama and John McCain. A year later, a different dichotomy divided the web: You were either on Team Edward or Team Jacob.

I’m talking, of course, about Twilight. Bella Swan’s two love interests represented two different sides of the male ethos. Edward was dapper, broody, and mysterious (and a vampire). Jacob was protective, righteous, and gallant (and a werewolf). When Twilight: New Moon — the sequel that greatly expanded Jacob’s character — was at its cultural zenith,...

James Gunn Responds To Backlash Over New Superman 'Flying' Clip
Image
A new 30-second teaser for James Gunn's highly anticipated Superman movie has come under fire for its perceived use of CG. Following a slew of complaints on social media, the director responded with a very logical explanation.

The clip, shared by Gunn on Threads, features a close-up shot of David Corenswet's Man of Steel soaring through the air faster than a speeding bullet. However, some fans were not pleased with the visual and took their grievances to the comment section. "Looks dope!! Great camera angle of Superman flying! Except there's something with his face that looks a little off. I know there's plenty of time to refine the CG," one person wrote.

Shared on to Instagram, the poster sees Superman and Lois Lane kiss while sunlight appears behind them. Tying into this, Superman writer-director and DC Studios co-head James Gunn delved into David Corenswet's Superman screen test with Rachel Brosnahan in 2024, professing at the time, "One year ago today David and Rachel screen-tested for Clark and Lois. When they first read together it was like magic. What a wonderful year it's been with two of the most extraordinary, vibrant, and meticulous actors I've ever had the opportunity to work with. I can't wait for you to see them on screen in just a little over a year."

Armie Hammer to Star in Uwe Boll's Next Film - Which Shares Its Title With a Beloved Batman Movie
Image
Actor Armie Hammer was on the rise when his career took a major hit in 2021. At the time, allegations of misconduct were leveled against Hammer, and offers for new roles in Hollywood films immediately dried up.

After four years, Hammer is looking to get his acting career back on the rails. He has recently been hosting a podcast, looking to show another side of himself as he takes on more acting work. Per Variety, his next role will see him playing a vigilante in a movie called The Dark Knight. While the movie happens to share a title with a beloved film directed by revered filmmaker Christopher Nolan, it is not a DC project focused on Batman... though, with Hammer in the lead, it's still starring someone who was once also cast as the popular superhero.

Superman and Batman Discuss Krypto's Dcu Fate in 'How It Should Have Ended' Video
Image
Superman's goodest super boi has made his official Super Cafe debut.

The latest animated short from "How It Should Have Ended" saw Krypto the Super Dog join Superman and Batman as they debate whether his role in James Gunn's Dcu film will have tragic implications. After opening with a parody of the Superman trailer where Krypto drags Superman to the cafe by his cape -- causing Batman to smugly point out Superman bleeds -- the two discuss the trailer's scenes and how they finally allow Superman to act heroic again. Despite this, Batman says he's sorry for Superman's "future loss," believing that something bad will happen to Krypto and citing Gunn's backstory for Rocket Racoon in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as proof. The two then make a wager on whether the dog will get hurt, with Batman insisting he'll use his signature "because I'm Batman" line...

James Gunn Hasn’t Forgotten His Promise for the Best Batman & Superman Scene Only to Make a Fan Eat a Literal Shoe
Image
Anyone who has been on the internet in the past decade must have come across How It Should Have Ended, a parody web series that produced animated episodes about how popular films should have ended, often pointing out narrative errors in these stories.

James Gunn | Credit: Erik Drost, licensed under Cc By 2.0, via Wikimedia Commons

One of the staple gags in the series is Super Cafe, which sees superheroes in humorous situations in a cafe-type setting. Two regular customers that are seen sitting across from each other are Superman and Batman, which fans have said they would like to see in James Gunn’s Dcu. The director, taking to responding to the post, has implied that he might be open to doing it, should certain conditions set by an over-enthusiastic fan be met.

Little Demon: Does the Series Live Up to the Talent Behind It?
Image
On paper, Little Demon assembled a team of all-stars both in front of and behind the camera. With the main draw coming via the addition of The Goat in Danny DeVito voicing Satan himself, he was accompanied by his daughter Lucy DeVito (Deadbeat), and Hollywood's resting b***h face in the excellent Aubrey Plaza.

Danny DeVito himself has made a successful career out of also being a voice actor. With such an iconic New Jersey disgruntled and gruff delivery coupled with DeVito's natural acting talent, the performer fit right in on guest spots in The Simpsons as Homer's estranged brother Herb.

So successful, in fact, that the voice acting side quest would have him voice his own caricature in Disney's Hercules in 1997, only continuing to this day with the actor having boasted voice gigs with some of the top animation companies at each of their respective high points.

How It: Chapter 2 Should Have Ended
While I enjoyed the hell out of It: Chapter 2, there were a good amount of people that didn’t care for it. A lot of the complaints came from the way the movie ended. But, it seemed like that ending was being set up over the course of the movie with all the jokes about how no one liked the endings of Bill’s books.

Well, the gang at How It Should Have Ended has released a new animated video showing us how they think the film should have ended. After poking fun at the original ending by bullying Pennywise The Clown to death, they show us an ending where Pennywise is the one that wins because it would actually be pretty easy for him!

Check out the alternate endings for the film below and let us know what you thought about It: Chapter 2 and the ending.

Avengers: Endgame Gets The How It Should’ve Ended Treatment
So far, it appears as though Avengers: Endgame has proven to be one of those rare movies where most folks will overlook a myriad of plot holes and still enjoy it. Suffice it to say, thinking too hard about the flick’s time travel logic may cause your nose to bleed – especially anything involving Captain America – but, man, was it ever an unforgettable ride.

Now that pretty much everyone has had the chance to enjoy Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ latest cinematic outing, the talented people at How It Should Have Ended have assembled yet another animated video righting the wrongs of a Hollywood blockbuster – and this time, they’re taking aim at Endgame.

Embedded at the top of this article is Hishe’s fixing of various situations in ways only they can do. For the most part, I have to concede they were right in pointing out the plot holes they did,...

The Animated Aladdin Gets Its Own How It Should Have Ended Just in Time For Its Live-Action Reboot
Here’s a fun little video from the gang over at How It Should Have Ended with their take on the animated 1992 version of Aladdin. The video pokes fun at how the live-action version (in theatres this weekend) isn’t very necessary, how the genie probably could have done a lot more good before being set free, and how things probably would have turned out fine if Aladdin had looped Jasmine into the truth sooner than later. How Bumblebee Should Have Ended
Director Travis Knight’s Bumblebee is easily the best Transformers movie ever made. While the franchise will continue, the producers have said there will be a “little more Bayham” in future films so it sounds like they didn’t really learn anything from what made Bumblebee so great.

At least we have Bumblebee, and the team at How It Should Have Ended decided to give it an alternate ending that that some of the fans might have preferred as it brings back the original Megatron and doesn’t want to acknowledge what Michael Bay ended up doing with the character.

There are a few other little amusing things the video points out as well that makes sense. But because the movie is still connected to the previous Transformers films, the creative team had their hands tied on a few things.

Avengers: Endgame Trailer Gets The How It Should Have Ended Treatment
Next year’s Avengers: Endgame looks set to cram an overwhelming number of characters into the grand finale of Marvel’s Phase 4, but as the new video from the How It Should Have Ended YouTube channel aptly demonstrates, the team could’ve been a lot bigger.

The animation offers a continuation of the final scene from the film’s first trailer, in which Scott Lang pulls up to the Avengers HQ. After Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff buzz Ant-Man in, a whole load of new characters start showing up on their doorstep. Among the current Marvel Studios properties who join the gang are Blade, Ghost Rider, Daredevil, and Luke Cage, but it seems that Disney’s soon-to-be acquired Fox characters, including Deadpool and the X-Men, are also down for the cause. Perhaps the video’s funniest moment comes when the ‘Fantastic Three’ show up, minus the Human Torch in reference...

Here's How Ant-man And The Wasp Should Have Ended
I actually thought the ending for Ant-Man and The Wasp was perfect for the story that it told. I really wouldn’t have changed anything. But, the team at Hishe attempt to give us an amusing alternate ending.

This latest “How It Should Have Ended” video kinda falls flat. But, it’s still amusing and fun, especially with the Superman and Batman cafe bit at the very end. That was the best part of this latest episode.

The alternate ending points out the fact that Scott Lang, Hank Pym, Hope van Dyne and Janet van Dyne completely ignore the the big news that aliens have come down to and started causing complete chaos in New York City, and instead of helping, they are spending their time conducting quantum realm science experiments.

I guess they weren’t really concerned with what was happening with the rest of the Avengers.

Watch Deadpool 2 Get Roasted By CinemaSins
With $734 million and scores of positive reviews to its name, Deadpool 2 was, without question, a runaway success for both 20th Century Fox and David Leitch. But that doesn’t necessarily mean it was the perfect sequel, if such a thing even exists.

The decision to bump off (read: fridging) Vanessa, for instance, proved incredibly divisive among moviegoers, as there are those who believe Morena Baccarin’s character was reduced to one-dimensional motivator for Wade Wilson, and nothing more.

Indeed, there’s certainly a case to be made against Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick’s script, which was written alongside Wade Wilson himself, Ryan Reynolds, soon after the original Deadpool movie launched the Merc With a Mouth into the stratosphere in terms of hype and popularity.

And it’s this criticism that’s dragged back into the limelight during CinemaSins’ latest video, one which claims to identify everything wrong with Deadpool 2.

Deadpool 2 Gets The Honest Trailers Treatment Featuring Ryan Reynolds
It wouldn’t be a Deadpool production if things didn’t get a little meta, now, would it?

Over on the Screen Junkies YouTube channel, the Merc With a Mouth has hijacked the Honest Trailers series in time for Deadpool 2‘s Blu-ray release, resulting in a scathing assessment of the YouTube channel itself, albeit with one or two Green Lantern jokes thrown in for comedic effect.

Yes, you’ve seen the How It Should Have Ended video and laid eyes on The Super Duper Cut (available today on Blu-ray and DVD), but today is all about the hilarious Honest Trailer for Deadpool 2, which dials the pop culture references up to 11 with nods to Fortnite and Passion of the Christ. Mind you, the latter managed to sneak its way into the sequel’s final cut, something Honest Trailers isn’t too pleased about…

Like we said, meta. It’s...

Hilarious Honest Trailer For Avengers: Infinity War Debuts
“Because let’s face it, you’re either on this hype train by now, or the Winter Soldier using Rocket Raccoon as a side-arm won’t mean shit to you.”

And that, in a nutshell, sums up the Honest Trailer for Avengers: Infinity War. Of all the post-launch analyses to emerge – think How It Should Have Ended and all of the many spoiler-filled videos from Webhead – this is by far the most scathing, as it pokes fun at just about every aspect of Infinity War and its ridiculously huge cast. Hell, it even compares Thanos, a buff bald guy looking to expand his rock mineral collection, to Hank from Breaking Bad.

A particular highlight? Screen Junkies’ commentary goes on to note that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man would seemingly rather hitch a ride into space and die than cameo in Venom, which surely ranks up there among the best superhero jokes...

How It Should Have Ended (2005)
Votd: How ‘Deadpool 2’ Should Have Ended Involves the Perfect ‘Infinity War’ Crossover
How It Should Have Ended (2005)
Normally superheroes movies take themselves seriously enough that they’re easy targets for cracking jokes from the people behind How It Should Have Ended. But when you’re dealing with a wise-cracking, fourth wall-breaking, self-aware character liker Deadpool, you’ve gotta raise the bar a little bit. Thankfully, even though the jokes don’t land as well as those […]

Deadpool 2 Gets The How It Should Have Ended Treatment
In honor of Deadpool 2‘s digital debut (see the cheeky promo here), the good folks at How It Should Have Ended have turned their attention to the Merc’s second solo adventure for what is undoubtedly a hilarious, wonderfully meta video tribute.

And like all Hishe clips involving the superhero genre, this one ends with Wade Wilson rubbing shoulders not with Batman and Superman, but an entire posse of cinema’s greatest villains – think of Voldemort, the Joker and Thanos of Avengers: Infinity War.

Speaking of Marvel’s super-sized crossover, Infinity War is referenced numerous times in this particular tribute, as we see Deadpool travel back in time (and to another reality) where he finds Thor standing over the visibly wounded Thanos. Cue hilarity as a gleeful Wade Wilson regales Palpatine (or “Palps”) and his crooks about how he saved them from death by disintegration.

Avengers: Infinity War Gets The How It Should’ve Ended Treatment, Again
To date, I’ve kept my absolute disdain for Avengers: Infinity War separate from my news reporting as much as possible, but now seems like an opportune time to let the cat out of the bag. I’m sure that I’m in the minority on this one because, believe it or not, I’ve actually had people unfriend me on Facebook over my opinion regarding a movie. Seriously.

Now, I’m not here to write a manifesto detailing all of my issues with the film because that’d require my having to watch it for a second time, but the folks at How It Should Have Ended have done a fine job of illustrating any points I’d make.

In short, there were a myriad of ways that Thanos could’ve been defeated, several of which were laid out in the first video that highlighted a number of gaping plot holes.

“How It Should Have Ended” Video Series Tackles ‘Avengers: Infinity War’
We’ve tried to take some time off from talking about “Avengers: Infinity War.” But we just can’t stay away. Whether it’s discussing the character “deaths,” future films affected by the showdown, or Thanos’s obsession with bubbles, we’re still talking about the Marvel behemoth which is now the fourth highest grossing film of all time. But now we’ll take a respite from the intense formalities of the film and change it to something a bit more cheeky.

Avengers: Infinity War Gets The How It Should Have Ended Treatment
As the fourth highest-grossing movie of all time, it doesn’t seem like too much of an exaggeration to say that everyone has seen Avengers: Infinity War. It also seems reasonably safe to assume that everyone has got an opinion on that ending. Whether it’s down to who should have floated away on the breeze instead or who should have kicked Thanos’ purpley-pink ass, it’s divisive, emotive…and now the subject of a new How It Should Have Ended video.

As you can see in the clip above, ending number one has Doctor Strange predict 5 possible outcomes where Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will prevail. These range from Nebula stepping up and getting revenge on dear old Daddy, to Tony Stark and Pepper Potts adopting a lil’ baby Thanos after one of Strange’s spells turns the Titan into a toddler.

Hishe Studios then show us the gang’s Last Supper,...

Infinity War Gets a Dead Pool in How It Should Have Ended Parody
A new video from parody channel How It Should Have Ended gives Thanos a worthy send off, as he makes way to do battle in Avengers: Infinity War. The discussion of the fight to come inspires Thanos’ fellow villains to set up a dead pool for the heroes he will be facing… and foreshadows the unwanted arrival of Deadpool himself.

First established in 2007, How It Should Have Ended has created numerous award-winning animated parodies of many recent blockbusters as well as several classic films, all suggesting alternative endings that are much more logical than what we saw in the original film.

Justice League Gets The How It Should Have Ended Treatment
It’s going on five weeks since the talented folks over at How It Should Have Ended cut together an animated sketch about one of Hollywood’s biggest tentpoles – for the record, Star Wars: The Last Jedi holds that distinction – but the Hishe team is back with a new video dedicated to Justice League, Zack Snyder and Warner’s wildly ambitious blockbuster that ultimately fell flat back in November. And boy, this ‘alternate ending’ doesn’t pull any punches.

From the off, we see the Man of Steel swoop down to visit what we can only assume to be a local school, where he’s bombarded with questions about his mustache – or lack thereof. The parody video then goes on to poke fun at Justice League‘s other quirks, including the uneven dialogue, shoddy CGI and Ciarán Hinds’ mega-villain Steppenwolf, whose all-conquering masterplan was undercut by forgettable dialogue and half-baked VFX.

Batman Does His Own Version of a Simon & Garfunkel Classic
Batman has been becoming more musical in the last few years with his hit “Untitled Self Portrait” from The Lego Movie really hitting things off. Then there was “Who’s the (Bat)Man” from The Lego Batman Movie. Plus, there’s this gem from Justice League Unlimited. Who would’ve guessed this brooding superhero would be so musical? Well, the team at How It Should Have Ended decided Batman had at least one more song to sing, so they wrote “The Sound of Violence” which is a parody of the Simon & Garfunkel classic, “The Sound of Silence.” This is one of the greatest versions of this song that I’ve heard. It is so freaking funny. Share it with your friends and family for a good laugh.

How The Incredibles Should Have Ended - What if Mr. Incredible Had Accepted Buddy
In The Incredibles, Mr. Incredible turns down Buddy’s help which then leads Buddy to become the supervillain, Syndrome. Syndrome then goes on to hurt and potentially kill many people in his quest for revenge against Mr. Incredible. The team over at How It Should Have Ended gave this incredible movie their attention and showed what could’ve happened had Mr. Incredible teamed up with Buddy. I think my favorite part is the eyepiece that looks like a scouter from Dragon Ball Z. Do you think Mr. Incredible should’ve accepted little Buddy’s help?...

Thor Sings His Own Version of "Hammer Time"
With the success Thor: Ragnarok is having I think Thor deserves to have some fun, and fun he has in this hilarious parody of Mc Hammer’s “Hammer Time”. The people at How It Should Have Ended put together some clips to help Thor sing his new hit song “Not Worthy”. After hearing this I was amazed and could not stop laughing. Let us know what songs the other heroes need to be singing.

How It Should Have Ended Takes On Spider-man: Homecoming
Marvel's Spider-Man: Homecoming was well-liked by audiences both in the theater and now on Blu-Ray.  Now the guys over at How It Should Have Ended are sticking it to the web-slinger in their latest animated parody.

I love how they always bring up plot holes and weak points that leave you saying, "Oh yeah, that was dumb."  And they even find a perfect opportunity to rip on all the previous cinematic versions of Spider-Man, and those yet to come.  Anyways, check it out below:...

How It Should Have Ended series sets its sights on Spider-Man: Homecoming
Growing up on the internet, I became a big fan of the animated How It Should Have Ended series back when I was in middle school with the Lord Of The Rings "Why didn't they just use the eagles from the beginning" video. I've been a fan ever since. And even though they've been more hit-and-miss lately (especially with many of their running jokes - like the whole... Read More...

Chirrut Imwe Beats Down The Entire Empire in This Stop-Motion Lego Parody Video
In a new parody video from How It Should Have Ended and Lego animators Brotherhood Workshop we see Chirrut Imwe show off some pretty impressive martial art skills. Unlike Rogue One, we get to see a lot more of Imwe kicking imperial ass.

How it Should Have Ended says this short initially started out as a two-minute video for the South by Southwest Game Awards this spring, but it was so good they extended it to just over four minutes.

It’s a brilliantly choreographed bit of stop-motion, beginning with something pretty similar to the fight we got in Rogue One before escalating. A lot. You can watch it below:...

Donnie Yen
Chirrut Vs. Everything in Rogue One Lego Parody
Donnie Yen
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story turned out to be a prequel that fractured the Star Wars fan base as many loved the movie while just as many hated the movie. One thing that just about everybody in both camps could agree on was that Chirrut Imwe is a total badass and now a new Lego parody video goes on to absurdly prove that point. Chirrut is certainly one with the Force and the Force is one with him in the new parody video that is incredibly well done.

As played by Donnie Yen, Chirrut is a human, blind from birth, who lives in Jedha City, a holy place for the Jedi, on the moon of Jedha. He seems like a wise, old preacher at first, spouting the ways of The Force, but when confronted with danger Chirrut quickly reveals himself to be a strong and skilled fighter, even...
