Very nice

I'll be honest in that I do have a slight preference for the animations when Burbank called themselves Burbank Films Australia, especially their Wind in the Willows and Peter Pan. But the Burbank Animation Studios output aren't so shabby either, I do have a soft spot for Hansel and Gretel, Pocahontas, Goldilocks and the Three Bears and this because they were my first ones. Revisiting on a very old VHS that is now on its last legs this Anastasia is not as quite as good as I remembered it but it is still a very nice entry in the Burbank Animation Studios resume. Some of the animation is not great, with some of the backgrounds lacking fluidity and finesse(others were very colourful and elegant) and I do wish some of the characters' eyes were animated more realistically. However the music is simple and quite catchy, the dialogue is involving without feeling too simplistic, the characters do engage(Anastasia and Boris particularly) and the story has many moments of charm and tension. The voice acting is good enough with a real attempt to make it evocative to the time and place. All in all, not one of Burbank Animations' strongest(so far of the ones re-visited it's probably Pocahontas) but still good all the same. 8/10 Bethany Cox
